Chapter 123
As the song started to play, Cordy sang it with her gracefully melodious voice.
Everyone was still pouring each other drinks, but they all stopped when they heard Cordy’s
singing, left in shock by her voice.
Even Zoe was rubbing her ears. “Such a shame she’s not taking part in The Voice. She sings so much
better than me.”
“Aren’t you an actress?” Bob pointed out.
“…Can’t I develop into other areas?” Zoe retorted.
“Well, she sings well, but I wonder…” Bob turned to John just then. “Is she hinting at something. with
those lyrics?”
As John narrowed his eyes, Zoe appeared speechless.
“What are you thinking?!” Zoe snapped. “It’s just a song, or are you saying John is cheating on
Cordy?!”

Soon, Cordy was done singing, and everyone applauded her.
She was too engrossed with singing to notice that everyone was listening to her attentively and the
applause left her blushing.
She quickly put down the microphone and left for the washroom–she still felt a little shy, singing. in front
of relative strangers.
Moreover, this might be the last time, because she would no longer cross paths with them once. she
cleared the air with John.
After taking a while to calm herself, Cordy opened the washroom door to find John standing outside,
waiting for her.
Seeing her come out, he said, “I’m taking you home.
He probably noticed that she was uncomfortable.
Nonetheless, Cordy mustered her courage and said, “John, I need to talk to you.”
“Yes?” John raised a brow–his cheeks were flushed from alcohol, and his eyes were slightly unfocused.
But if anything, he felt more approachable than usual.
Even so, Cordy enunciated every word as steadily as possible. “Let’s end things here,
John’s fingers seemed to tremble for an instant at his sides.
Even if it was not too obvious and he was not reacting obviously in appearance, Cordy could feel the
coldness projecting from his body for a single second.
Be that as it may, he was not flipping out or appeared despondent.
Instead, he asked with exceedingly calm composure, “Did I make a mistake?”
It certainly came out of the blue.
What was his mistake?
Did Cordy dislike his friends? His lifestyle?
He was sure she was not trusting and therefore stopped at meeting his close friends, agreeing to let
Bob celebrate his birthday. He was convinced that this was the way for her to slowly learn about him

Did he go too far and made her upset, even though he was always so afraid of scaring her?
A million different feelings were crushing John’s heart all at once!
“No,” Cordy said just then. “I’ve told you, I won’t fall in love again, and I’ve rejected you many times
“Cordy Sachs. Give me an actual reason so that I can give up, or I won’t,” John said, cutting her short.
Cordy actually could not recall if he had ever used her full name before.
And yet, she felt a stabbing pain in her chest just then, as if she had really hurt him.
But it was his own fault for getting ahead of himself.
Biting her lip and taking a moment to compose herself, she eventually said, “I can’t accept how you
treat relationships. I understand that I have a troubled reputation, and men would think that I have
loose morals since I’m no virgin… But I’m not. Even when I dated Kyle Jessop, we at most held hands
and hugged, nothing more. I dislike intimate men because I draw the line at premarital intercourse.”
With that, she changed her tone and held John’s gaze. “I’ve said a lot, but the point is that is how I treat
relationships.”
John returned her gaze and asked, “So? How did the way I treat relationships disappoint you?” He
could change, could he not?
