Chapter 616

Cordy could not help asking Jay just then, "Have you thought about looking for Zoe?"

Jay shook his head.

After Zoe left all those years ago, Cordy actually asked Jay what on earth was happening between him,

Zoe, and Bob Davis-and why Zoe would break up with Bob.

Jay told her the truth then: Bob's mother had gone to Zoe, after which Zoe asked Jay to stage an act

with her and break up with Bob. i

That begged the question: why did Jay not stay with Zoe after she broke up with Bob?

Jay stayed silent, but he did not answer that question even now or ever go to Zoe.

Cordy actually had the feeling that Jay was still in love with Zoe. However, he also knew that he would

never get Zoe back because she had really given up on him, and he therefore simply allowed her to

leave.

Or maybe he was just calling it quits because of his disability?!

"Zoe has found her own happiness,' Jay said evenly then, as if he utterly and genuinely got over her.

Cordy nodded in silence-one could also tell if a relationship had cooled off.

Cordy left with Richard after dinner with the Levines.

Richard was in the backseat while Cordy drove solemnly-she was always extra careful whenever

Richard was in the car.

"Mommy..." Richard suddenly called out to her.

"Yeah?"

"Aunt Nancy is asking us to move back to Levine Manor again."

"Do you want to?"

"Nope." He shook his head.

"Really?" Cordy asked.

"I know you don't want to do it, and I would like to stay with you."

"Well, I don't." Cordy did not hide it.

"So I told her no, but I promised to visit her often."

"Okay. I'll take you there when I'm not too busy."

"Thank you, Mommy."

Cordy smiled-she probably would not have survived the last few years without him.

Suddenly, her phone rang, and Cordy checked to see a number she could not recognize.

She pressed the Bluetooth handsfree button to answer. "Hello?"

"I'm Lucas Lynch."

Cordy frowned right then—nothing good would come out of this.

"What is it?" she asked, her tone turning cool right then.

"I'm at the precinct."

"And?"

"I need you to bail me out, or I won't be able to leave tonight."

"Why?* Cordy asked, stopping short of laughing out loud.

To think that that would happen to him!

"Because you're the only person I know in North City," Lucas replied.

He was as prideful and as rude as ever, asking for a favor but somehow not sounding like he was.

"I'm sorry, but I don't know who you are," Cordy was smiling, feeling immensely cathartic.

"Cordy Sachs!" Lucas snapped right then, but Cordy quickly hung up. She was not that kind, after all.
