Betrayal At The Altar

Chapter 432

“That’s good.” Adrian secretly heaved a sigh of relief. “Do you know what happened?”

Old Mr. Johnson had always been in good health. There was no way he would suddenly have high blood pressure.

Rachel frowned, and her expression became stern at Adrian’s question. “I heard from Mr. Chadwick that

grandfather had received a call from the cemetery night watchman, who told him that someone had taken Mom’s

ashes.”

Adrian’s eyes narrowed behind his lens. Hostility rose in his eyes. “Who did that?”

That was a resting place for souls, but someone had pried open her mother’s tombstone and robbed her ashes.

What resentment could the robber possibly bear?

“It’s still under investigation,” Rachel said.

At this moment, the door of the operating theater swung open, and the attending doctor walked out.

Rachel and Adrian immediately went up to him and asked in unison, “How’s my father?”

“How is my grandfather?”

The attending doctor took off his mask. As soon as Adrian saw his face, his pupils constricted, and shock filled his

eyes.

He was Wharton, the famous brain specialist of the international medical organization!

considered a miracle healer who could bring back anyone on the brink of death.

He was truly a National Healer!

Wharton nodded at Rachel and said slowly, “Old Mr. Johnson’s blood pressure was too high, and we have

administered the appropriate treatment. According to the examination report, his blood vessels are too narrow. To

avoid any serious cerebral infarction in the future, we suggest implanting a stent after his condition stabilizes.”

Adrian tried to contain the astonishment in his eyes and said calmly, “Alright, sorry to trouble you.”

“This is nothing, Mr. Johnson.” Wharton said, “Miss Grey, goodbye.”

As he left, Wharton took a long hard look at Rachel, his eyes filled with curiosity and surprise.

He had been acquaintances with David for many years and had known him to be an emotionless and ruthless man.

To think that he would go to such great lengths for this woman. That was really out of the ordinary!

Some moments later, Old Mr. Johnson started to regain consciousness

His cloudy vision gradually cleared up. His gaze swept across his family, including his grandson Lucas, who had

gathered by his bed.

“Grandfather.” Rachel immediately went up to him. “How are you feeling?”

Old Mr. Johnson’s gaze finally landed on Rachel, and he smiled. “Grandfather is fine. Don’t worry.”

Rachel nodded, but tears uncontrollably welled up in her eyes.

Old Mr. Johnson touched her face and said adoringly, “Why is our precious Rae-Rae crying again?”

Rachel raised her hand to wipe away her tears, but she could not stop crying. “I was terrified.”

She was terrified at the thought of losing someone she loved again. She was terrified of saying goodbye. But more

than anything, she was terrified of being abandoned.

“Silly child, grandfather is old. That day will eventually come.” Old Mr. Johnson gently wiped away the tears on her

face.

Rachel held Old Mr. Johnson’s hand and said firmly, “You will live to a ripe old age!”

Old Mr. Johnson smiled and said, “Then wouldn’t I become an old monster?”

He paused for a moment. “Rae-Rae, get grandfather a glass of water.”

“Alright.” Rachel took the kettle and went out of the room.

Under Old Mr. Johnson’s knowing gaze, Lucas got up and chased after Rachel. “I’ll accompany you.”

After they left, Old Mr. Johnson looked at his eldest son, Tom. “Have you investigated?”

“That person did not leave any clues, and all the surveillance cameras were erased,” Tom said.

Hearing this, Old Mr. Johnson sighed deeply and stared at the ceiling with a solemn expression.

Since both her uncles had already decided, and Rachel was helpless.

Immediately outside the hospital, Rachel noticed the black Rolls-Royce parked in the parking lot.

Her heart suddenly tightened.

He was still there?

The man was wearing a black suit and was standing in front of the car with one. hand in his pocket. He exuded an

indifferent and noble aura. Every movement he made was alluring and hard to ignore.

The dim light from the street lamp shone on him, as if encasing him in a layer of protective light.

His head hung low, he was replying to messages on his phone. Then, as if sensing something, he looked up.

As soon as he saw Rachel, the cold glint disappeared from his eyes, revealing a gentle smile.

Perhaps his presence had softened her heart, or maybe it was instinct. Rachel left Adrian behind and drifted toward

David, unconsciously.

She looked at David. And without a word, she fell into his embrace.

David held out his arms naturally and wrapped them around her shoulders. His deep and cold tone was filled with

gentleness. “Tired?”

Rachel snuggled into his embrace and replied in a mu ffled voice, “Why didn’t leave?”

you

She thought that David would leave after sending her to the hospital. She did not expect him to wait there.

“I’m worried about you.”

His tone was calm, and there was a hint of gentleness at the end of his sentence. It was deep and warm, making

Rachel feel at ease for no reason.

Rachel looked up at him, and their gazes met without any warning.

She stood on her tiptoes and kissed David on the lips.

Her kiss was unruly and untrained. It came crashing head-on on David’s lips, but it aroused him.

His arms slid down slowly from Rachel’s shoulders to her slender waist. His arms. tightened around her waist. How

he wished he could swallow her into his body.

In the car, Eddie could not even bear looking at them.

What a sin!
