Charlie was at the hospital, and Jamie had initially wanted to visit him.

Now, staying in Ben's villa, she hadn't expected her state to deteriorate this badly.
"Do you wantto call Caleb?" Ben asked her patiently.
He had been deeply worried about her since the funeral. He feared that if she kept bottling up her emotions, the grief would eventually consher and make her physically ill. "To counsel me?" Jamie let out a bitter laugh. Caleb was an all-around doctor capable of both medical treatment and psychological counseling.
"I'm not sick," Jamie said, her voice trembling. "I'm just heartbroken. She was my sister, Ben. She was my little sister who grew up with me." Ben handed her a glass of water. "I'm not saying you're sick. I'm just worried you'll push yourself too far. Jamie, about Winnie..." He trailed off, guilt flashing in his eyes.
Back then, he had approached Winnie under the guise of Jack Green, driven by his desire for revenge against Jamie. He hadn't fully considered the consequences of his actions.
When his true identity was revealed, and Winnie began to spiral out of control, Ben had made things clear to her that the child she carried wasn'this and that he had given her material support out of obligation, not love.

Jamie pulled away from Ben. "Don't stay nearanymore. Ben, I've already made it clear that I can't be with you. No matter what you do, you'll never change my mind Her words were firm and final.
Once Jamie made up her mind, there was no swaying her, just like when she took the one million dollars from Mrs. Lucas and promised never to see Ben again.

Jamie's eyes welled up with tears.
She didn't want to leave Ben, but Winnie's death had created an m insurmountable barrier between them. How could she possibly move past it? Jamie shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I can't forget any of it." Winnie had been burned beyond recognition. It was a horrific fate she should never have had to endure.
If Jamie had never met Ben and if she had never been with him, maybe none of this would have happened.
"Jamie," Ben said gently, his voice steady despite the weight of them moment "sthings can't be calculated that way."
