Zoey had next to nothing to pack up, given her modest collection of belongings.

She made her way downstairs in less than ten minutes.

Every staff member in the mansion had been briefed about her arrival, greeting her without any undue curiosity, their demeanor thoroughly respectful.

The assistant informed Zoey, "There are quite a few amenities around the mansion for your entertainment. Since you'll only be here for two months, if you ever wish to go out, just letknow, and I'll arrange transportation for you." The drive from the mansion to the main gate alone took about ten minutes, subtly implying that it was best if she stayed within the grounds for the next two months.

Zoey didn't feel imprisoned in any way; she was here on a mission, after all, prepared to dedicate her tto Nolan.

"Sure, I won't be going out," she assured the assistant, who visibly relaxed, glad she wasn't keen on leaving. They were all worried about her running into acquaintances, which could lead toplications.

However, trouble had a way of finding its way to them.

Fitch had been away in Zion City for about a week, his schedule packed with back-to-back meetings, leaving early the next day with his assistant.

With Fitch gone, Zoey settled down to read with Nolan.

When the doorbell rang, she assumed Fitch had otten something and returned to retrieve it. But upon opening the door, she was met by Sharon Haskins, her face breaking into a smile that quickly turned to shock upon seeing Zoey.

"Zoey?" Sharon gasped, her demeanor shifting from cordial to livid in an instant.

"You, I thought you were dead! So you played us all those years ago, making Fitch feel guilty over your 'death' to keep him hooked. You succeeded! But lettell you, you'll never be a part of the Haskins family. I won't allow someone as manipulative as you to drag Fitch down!" Initially, Zoey thought Sharon was just another guest of Fitch's, not expecting to be met with violence.

Caught off guard, Zoey felt the sting of Sharon's slap across her face.

For years, Fitch never returned to the Haskins' family estate, all because of what Sharon had said. Even Nolan was kept away, never once visiting his grandparents' home.

Sharon had hoped Fitch would eventually relent, but as tpassed, she grew anxious, realizing the depth of Zoey's impact on him.

To Sharon, Zoey's supposed death had left an indelible mark on Fitch, amon reaction when someone passes away, especially since Zoey was Nolan's mother.

But now, with Zoey standing before her, Sharon saw all past events as a deceitful act, believing Zoey had lain in wait for four years just to secure her place in the Haskins family! hovels Zoey, after a brief silence, returned the slap, leaving Sharon staggering, her mind buzzing in disbelief.

"Did you just hit me?" Sharon shrieked, incredulous.

Zoey replied coolly, uninterested in justifying herself, "Madam, you struckfirst." Sharon, accustomed to being treated with kid gloves, was left trembling with rage, her cheek burning from the slap. She furiously dialed Fitch, but he was in a meeting and promptly declined her call upon seeing it was from her. Pointing accusatorily at Zoey, Sharon seethed, "Get out! You're not wee here!" Zoey, unfazed, closed the door right in Sharon's face, stating plainly, "Madam, I have nothing to say to you." Sharon was left outside, flabbergasted. Zoey had clearly gained sleverage over Fitch, emboldened enough to defy her outright.

Back in the day, Zoey was the one desperately seeking Fitch's attention, a far cry from the assertive woman who had just shut the door on Sharon Haskins.
