Just after Zoey grabbed the marriage certificate, Nolan noticed from a distance.

"Hey, Teach." He called out, his eyes landing on the certificate in her hands. Zoey felt a wave of embarrassment as if she had been caught red- handed, and quickly tucked the certificate away.

"Yeah, what's up?" "You, wanna see?" In front of the kid, she of course couldn't admit it, quickly shaking her head.

"No, haha, I just bumped into it, didn't I?” She vaguely remembered hearing from the staff that Nolan had been without a mom since birth, guessing he wouldn't want to delve into that topic.

"Nolan, finished with your book? Wantto find you another?" Before she could finish speaking, Nolan approached, his height not quite reaching the shelf with the two marriage certificates, so he dragged over a little stool. Stepping on it, he took out the certificate.

"Look, it's okay." Perhaps it was the earnestness in the kid's eyes that made Zoey feel her initial curiosity was downright shameful.

"No need, I don't want to look." She took the certificate back, placed it away, and closed the cab. This was Fitch's room, and her snooping around was definitely out of line.

She lifted Nolan up, "How about we switch to a cooperative gtoday?" Nolan looked down, seemingly a bit disheartened. Zoey wasn't sure why he suddenly felt down, probably because of the marriage certificate, which had his mom's photo on it. She felt even more guilty for touching it.

"Nolan, let's play a survival coop game. We have to hunt and farm, or we'll starve. I'll show you how, okay?" Nolan nodded, and they sat down in the living room with their controllers. Half an hour into the game, Fitch cdown from his study upstairs.

Lately, he hadn't been going out much, always helping the chef cook on time, and even baking treats in the afternoon. He took great care of Nolan, who in turn was very attached to him.

Zoey sometimes felt she had misjudged him; he really was a good father. Just then, Fitch's phone rang. Glancing at the caller ID, his brow furrowed.

He stepped out to the garden to take the call, leaving the living room.

It was from the Haskins family again. Sharon had told them Zoey was alive, and the Haskins family was pushing for a divorce. Fitch's face turned icy as he cracked a sardonic smile.

"Have you all gotten toofortable?" Silence fell on the other end.

Everyone needed Fitch for financial support. Even if someone had. started a business, Fitch remained the biggest partner. In the Haskins family, nobody dared cross him.

ñovels Fitch, not much for conversation, had everyone trying to play the elder card with him.

Fiddling with a lighter, Fitch's tone was cool.

"If you think life's too cushy, maybe I should cut down on your allowances. And those young ones, maybe it's tthey sought opportunities abroad, instead or lazing around here. Last time, my uncle's son splurged a million on a car, ran it through thepany's accounts, right?" His voice was steady, but his words carried weight. Normally, any purchase over five grand went through thepany, essentially et skimming off Fitch's wealth. He'd turned a blind eye, given his wealth, but now these dependents were trying to manipulate him, which was ludicrous. "Fitch, we didn't mean it that way. We just think she's not good enough for you." Fitch pocketed his lighter, his gaze fixed ahead.

"I only want Zoey. I've said it before, stop callingabout this." After hanging up, he turned around, only to find Zoey standing behind him. He wasn't sure how long she'd been there.

Fitch felt a momentary difort. But even more awkward was Zoey, having caught that last sentence.
