To avoid embarrassing herself when he rejected the request, Angeline quickly said, “No, since we’ve both drawn the

same card, this shouldn’t count. Why don’t we restart the round?”

“Are you afraid, Ms. Sorelle?” came Evander’s teasing voice.

Upon turning her head and seeing his icy gaze, Angeline fumed. In the end, she gritted out, “Who’s afraid? I’ll drink

it!”

Isn’t it just a drink? Who’s afraid now?

At that, she stood up and grabbed a glass from the table before turning toward Evander.

“Mr. Golding, a glass for you. Thank you for your care all this while. It’ll be great if I get to work with you again.”

Only Evander could understand the sarcasm in Angeline’s words.

Evander raised his glass as well. Yet, at that moment, Angeline leaned forward to wrap her arm around his neck

and held the glass behind him.

“Wow!” the crowd cheered.

When Evander smelled the pungent scent of alcohol wafting off her, he frowned and said, “Drink lesser.”

His words made tears well up in his eyes, and a self-deprecating curl appeared on her lips.

“Mr. Golding, you’re so sweet with your fiancée, but you still have the heart to care about others?”

Evander’s furrowed brows relaxed when he heard Angeline’s response. Even his lips curled.

He finally figured out why Angeline had a scowl the entire night. When he thought about the flask in the trash can, a

knot that had been in Evander’s mind came undone.

Meanwhile, Angeline downed the wine and sat back on her seat before angrily wiping the remnant wine off the

corner of her lips.

Seriously?

Why did I have to say those things earlier? What does Evander’s matter have anything to do with me?

After that, Angeline seemed to have gotten a streak of bad luck. She kept losing in the game, but she learned her

lesson. She would rather drink than take another dare.

A few glasses of wine later, Angeline began to find the world spinning around her. She even stumbled when she

rose to her feet.

“You’ve had one glass too many,” came the familiar voice by her ear.

In the next instance, a large hand steadily held her thin waist, and Angeline fell into his warm arms. Her eyes were

bloodshot when she looked at him.

“I don’t need your concern.”

She struggled, but perhaps she was a little too drunk, for her words of anger sounded more like she wanted his

attention.

Evander grabbed her arm again, and without giving her a chance to struggle anymore, he aggressively wrapped his

arms around her.

“My apologies. I’ll send Angeline back to the hotel first,” Evander said, his tone flat.

The directors and the actors were all dumbfounded by Evander’s actions, but none dared to stop him.

“I’m not going to—”

The words that nearly went past Angeline’s lips were forced back down her throat. Evander then took her bag from

the chair and dragged the drunkard out of the hotel.

Is he out of his mind? There are already rumors about us being in a relationship, and won’t his actions tonight

affirm those rumors?

Angeline half-stumbled and was half-towed out of the hotel. Before she could come back to her senses, she was

thrown in the car.

“Ow, that hurts…”

“So you still feel pain, huh?”

Evander’s expression was frigid as he hunched over his towering figure and grabbed one of her fidgeting hands.

“Weren’t you enjoying yourself when you were drinking with those actors earlier?”

His questioning tone tightened Angeline’s throat. After a long while, she finally found her voice again.

“So what? I have my freedom even since I’m single. Also, this is after work hours. This shouldn’t be your business,

right?”

Her aggressive words made Evander’s expression darken even further. “Do you not know how to have some self-

control as an actress?”

Anger boiled in Angeline when she heard that. Did you just say I have no self-control? What kind of person do you

think I am?

The alcohol running in her veins boosted her courage, and the aggrieved feelings in her grew.

He’s the one who sent flowers and apologized, but he’s also the one who’s making it seem like those things never

happened. What in the world is he trying to do?

At that, the sadness Angeline had been feeling for hours rose to her throat, and she snapped, “Mr. Golding, I don’t

think my matters require your concern. You were the one who stopped me from interacting with Floretta. I have no

right to be around someone as high and mighty as you, so I’m keeping my distance now. What else do you want

from me?”

Evander was bereft of words from her angry outburst, but the irritation in him only turned even more intense.

“Is this the way you should be speaking to me?”

As he said that, he gripped Angeline’s chin and leaned closer to her intimidatingly.

The pain was so great that Angeline could not speak. Her back was pressed hard against the seat, and she dared

not move at all. By then, hot tears had welled up in her eyes.

“Why are you crying?”

Somehow, Evander found his heart hurting from the sight of the misery in her eyes. He frowned.

D*mn it. Why can’t I bear to see Angeline’s tears at all? I resent her, but I can’t bring myself to keep attacking her

anymore. All I want is to embrace her tightly.

Angeline sensed Evander’s breathing becoming laborious. All of a sudden, her lips were sealed by a pair of cold lips.

Her eyes widened, and she stared at his face in disbelief.

Just as she placed her hands on the man’s chest to push him away, the man pried her mouth open, invaded her

senses, and cut off the noises she made.

The kiss came so suddenly Angeline’s face flushed bright red. The scent of alcohol in the car was strong. Even her

mind felt as if it had gotten drunk.

She did not know why the kiss somehow made her calm down.

Honk—

Right then, the sounds of car honking came from behind.

Angeline snapped back to her senses and stopped Evander’s wandering hands. After shoving him away, she

slapped him, her embarrassment having turned into wrath.

Smack!

It was a forceful slap.

Evander’s expression darkened as a red handprint manifested on his cheek. Even the temperature in the car

plummeted.

“Mr. Golding, you have a fiancée! Please have some self-respect!” she shouted at him.

Evander’s status was the least of her concerns at that moment. All she wanted was to get justice for herself.

Why… Why is he treating me like I’m an easy woman?

Angeline’s eyes turned red as she shoved his chest again and got out of the car.

Silence returned to the car following her departure.

After calming down, the heat in Evander dissipated a little. As he massaged the bridge of his nose, a look of

remorse appeared in his eyes.

He was a man who exercised great self-restraint—he was not someone who would become impulsive just because

of some words from others.

Yet, it felt as if one of the ropes holding him back had torn. Indeed, he had grown feelings for Angeline. That was

why he was trying to get close to her despite himself.

That feeling was the same as the one he felt when he first saw Floretta. The desire to have her by his side was not

one dictated by his rationality.

It was already late in the night, and it was exceptionally cold in the streets. Angeline only wore a thin dress, so she

had to hug herself to keep herself a little warmer.

No taxis came to her even though she tried to hail one for a very long time.

The further Angeline went down the street, the angrier she became. As she bit down hard on her lower lip, she took

off the painful heels and threw them onto the ground.

Evander did not even bother coming after her. It was clear that he had to have realized his actions earlier were

fueled by nothing but a moment of rashness.

So he’s allowed to be a bully just because he’s rich and powerful?

Just as Angeline vented her discontentment, a black car stopped beside Angeline. Then, the door slowly opened,

and Sylas stepped out of the vehicle.

“Ms. Sorelle, I’ve come to take you back to the hotel,” Sylas said before hunching over to pick up Angeline’s heels

from the ground.

“Where’s your boss?”

“Mr. Golding said he knows you don’t want to see him right now, so he has left,” Sylas reported as he passed her

the heels. “Ms. Sorelle, please put on your heels first. The ground is freezing.”

Angeline quietly took the shoes and cast a grateful look at Sylas.
