"Layla won't do such a thing!" Avery interrupted him. "We raised our daughter. Don't you know what kind of a person she is? Don't
you trust her?"
"Of course, | trust her. | am just worried that Eric might put her under his spell."
"Eric isn't that kind of a man."
"Avery, do you know Eric that well? We didn't raise him, and we aren't even that familiar with what kind of a man he is."
"How can you say that? He is our friend, and we ought to trust our friends. We only cto know Jun, Tammy, and Ben later in our
lives, so why can we trust them but not Eric?"
"Don't get so worked up. | will be more careful next t| see him." Elliot did not wish to fight with Avery over this.
It had been a while since they had a fight, and he was not used to having an argument.

"I'm not worked up. You are the one who is out of line here. If Eric really is the kind of man you think he is, do you really think that
Layla would still be here? She would have taken off with Eric a long tago," Avery retorted.
"What?! If he dares to do so, | will make him suffer for it."
"Alright, just go take a shower! It wasn't a big deal, and you don't have to make a big fuss out of it." Avery shoved his pajamas into
his hands and pushed him toward the bathroom.
Meanwhile, Layla and Ivy were whispering to one another in the bedroom.
"What do you think of Eric?" Layla asked.
"He is so cool!" Ivy said without hesitation. "He looks a bit different from when he is on tv, and he is even more handsthan |
expected him to be. All my classmates screamed when he entered the classroom and kept trying to take photos of him! He is so
handsome! Layla, | think | know why you are in love with him."
"Do | seem that shallow to you? | have a lot of handsguys after me, okay? Besides, good looks run in our family, so I'm
immune to handsguys at this point. | like him because of something else." Layla leaned on the couch and lifted her chin. "He
is tolerant, gentle, hard-working, and ambitious... He is a lot more than a pretty face."
"Layla, he has a girlfriend."
"I know. That's what Dad toldas well," Layla said calmly. "I plan on meeting his girlfriend in Bridgedale."
"In secret?"
"Yeah. I've moved out, and our parents won't say anything even if | don'te hfor a day or two," Layla said decisively. "I'm
going there mainly to make arrangements for the furniture in your house and meeting Eric's girlfriend is more like a side mission."
"And what if she refuses to see you?"
"I don't think that's possible. | guess | will find out. Don't tell anyone about this, including Eric."

"lI won't. I'm just worried..." Ivy sighed. "I like Mr. Santos, but | feel like you are going to struggle a lot to be with him."
"Do you know how long it took for our parents to finally settle down with one another?" Layla lifted her fingers and said, "At least
ten years."
Ivy stared at Layla in shock.
"I think that Hayden hasn't found himself a girlfriend yet because he was affected by that," Layla guessed. "Back when our parents
used to fight, it would get really nasty, and | still remember bits and pieces of what happened... Sometimes, | feel like I've been
affected by that experience as well. | like Eric because he makesfeel safe."
Ivy did not know what to say because she had not been there to witness the fights between Avery and Elliot. All she saw were that
they were great parents, and she loved them for it.
"I'm not saying that | resent them for it. | love them," Layla said with a smile. "lvy, is there someone you like?"
