Elliot could hear every word they said, and, after a good night's sleep the night before, an idea had popped into his head.
He strode into the dining room and said, "If you are saying that the baby looks like me, could it be that he really belongs to our family?" Avery instantly narrowed her eyes.
"Dad, what is wrong with you?!" Layla's heart raced.
"Don't get upset just yet! I can't tell how the baby looks like me, but if you two agree on it, then it has to be true. People can't just send babies here without a reason, so... There's a high chance that the baby belongs to us! But!" Elliot paused and said, "He is not mine." Hayden, Avery, and Layla fell into silence.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Hayden and Robert both look like me... Could it be that the baby's father is one of them?" Elliot was impressed by his own sharp mind.
He knew his actions so he was certain that the baby was not his. However, if the baby belonged to his family, then the father could only be Robert or Hayden.
Hayden, Avery, and Layla kept quiet.
Hayden instantly lost his appetite. As he did not even have a girlfriend, it was impossible for the child to be his.
He had only ever been intimate with a woman once on the day of Layla's wedding, and it seemed unlikely that he had managed to impregnate her that night.
"Avery, don't you agree with me?" Elliot was growing hysterical and desperately wanted Avery to side with him.
Apart from wanting Avery's support, he wanted to prove himself right as he felt that he might be on the right path.
After a brief moment of thought, Avery nodded.
Despite how horrific it sounded, it seemed extremely likely.
She had always seen her sons as children, but they had long grown up; and, though they behaved at home, she could not tell if they had sexual partners. "It has to be Robert!" Layla had digested what Elliot was proposing and decided. "Robert! That little scum! How dare he have an illegitimate child out there? I'm going to get him toe hright now!" Avery wanted to stop Layla, but did not know what to say.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAfter all, if Elliot's theory was right, this could very well be Robert's transgression they were handling.
Hayden had always steered clear of women, while Robert had had many female friends since he had been in kindergarten.
Robert had never tried to hide things from his family, and Avery was not against him being in a romantic relationship since he was already past eighteen, and it seemed normal for him to date. However, it was absurd for him to be a father when he had not even graduated from university.
Layla grabbed her phone and called Robert.
Once Elliot saw that his wife and daughter both supported his thinking, he felt the burden on his shoulders lift.
