Chapter 331

Once Thaddeus fell in love with Evadne, he understood something.

Evadne was like a coconut, often presenting a stern face to him, her outer shell seemingly impenetrable. Yet, inside, she was soft, genuine, and kind–hearted.

He had nothing left to attract her with, so he shamelessly persisted, clinging to her, cherishing every moment he could get.

Before, it was her who would go out of her way to spend time alone with him, making every second count.

Now, it was his turn to suffer.

In the end, Evadne couldn’t bring herself to leave the hospital room and reluctantly decided to stay.

“Don’t get me wrong. I’m not staying because of your pleas, but because promised Grandpa and Marilla,” Evadne said, steadying her emotions and sitting up from the bedside. I’ll sleep next door tonight. If you need me, give me a call.”

Thaddeus, his dark eyes deep, quickly grabbed her soft hand. “Evadne, sleep here tonight.”

The couch isn’t comfortable. I can’t sleep on it,” Evadhe tried to pull her hand away, but he wouldn’t let go.

“We’ll sleep on the bed, Thaddeus’s voice was low, as if he was coaxing her..

“Thaddeus, do you have a hard time saying anything nice?” Evadne wished she had a tape measure in her pocket to measure the extent of his shamlessness!

“Don’t get me wrong, Evadne. I won’t force you if you don’t want to. Although I really want to.”

In between his words, Thaddeus couldn’t help but emit a fiery warmth from his tall and upright frame, leaning towards her.

Want to? Go to hell!

“Stinky, stay away from me!”

Evadne recoiled, pinching her nose with her other hand. “I don’t want to sleep in the same room as you. I might pass out from the smell in the middle of the night.”

“Stinky? It’s not that bad.”

Thaddeus grabbed his own shirt to sniff. “Back when I was in the military, conditions were harsh in the camp and I couldn’t shower for a week. I was much stinkier then. When I returned to the Abernathy Group, I could shower every day. I was a bit uncomfortable at first.”

Evadne’s eyes trembled slightly.

She knew his past and the hardships he had been through. Apart from him, she was the one who understood him the most..

She didn’t despise him. She was just hesitant. Even though he seemed more genuine towards her now, she couldn’t convince herself to take a step closer to him.

She once admired him, running towards him without looking back, like a moth to a fiame. But when all her love and passion were mercilessly extinguished by him, her heart turned to ashes and it was extremely difficult to reignite.

“Evadne, I could wipe myself down. Just wait for me.”

Thaddeus, afraid that the young lady would find him repulsive and refuse to share a room with him, made a move to get out of bed to clean up.

“You can’t get wet now. Don’t fuss. Just be stinky.”

Evadne pried Thaddeus’s fingers open one by one, her long eyelashes trembling. “I’ll go wash up.”

Thaddeus was actually quite weak, but he didn’t want to show his vulnerable side in front of the woman he loved. He was quite a traditionalist in some respects, believing that women should be protected by men and that men should stand tall and protect their women.

But it was just a blow to the head, he had almost been shot to pieces by a machine gun before. Why was he so weak now?

It was too embarrassing in front of Evadne.

At this moment, he leaned against the head of the bed, listening to the sound of running water from the bathroom.

It had been a long time since he had felt such peace and tranquility, such simple happiness.

Suddenly, a sour feeling welled up in Thaddeus’s eyes, and he clenched his fists into the sheets.

He remembered the times when they were still married, he never had patience for her. When she took a bath, he thought she was too slow. When she did her skincare routine, he thought it was too bothersome. When she prepared a table full of delicious food, he only thought she was wasting time.

Those mundane scenes of their life together fiashed before his eyes, and each one was like a dagger to his heart.

The bathroom door opened.

Evadne came out, her long hair wrapped in a white towel. Her clear and delicate face was fiushed and covered in a thin layer of steam.

Thaddeus’s pupils contracted slightly at the sight of her young, beautiful, and radiant face. His throat bobbed nervously.

“You look better without makeup.”

“Enough. We had this conversation before. Stop repeating yourself.”

Evadne covered her head with the towel and sat down on the couch with a grumpy expression. “Also, if you can’t compliment someone, don’t force yourself. What do you mean I look better without makeup? I always look good. I’m absolutely stunning. I’m a goddess.”

“Yes, you’re a goddess.”

Thaddeus gazed at her adoringly, like a man enchanted by the moon. “I’ve always thought you were very beautiful.”

“Always? How long?”

“When you were my wife, I thought you were very beautiful then,” the man’s voice was incredibly sincere.

“Thaddeus, listen to what you’re saying, do you even believe yourself?”

Evadne curled her l*ps in disdain. “If you really thought I was beautiful, would you have ignored me for three years?”

Thaddeus didn’t dare to speak anymore. The more he said, the more mistakes he would make.

He would have to slowly win her over. After all, he now knew that her heart wasn’t made of stone, but a coconut.

Everything would get better, they could mend their relationship.

“I’m tired. You should go to sleep too.”

Evadne stretched like a little cat, about to lie down on the couch.

A knock on the door interrupted her. “Mr. Thaddeus, have you and Mrs. Abernathy gone to bed yet?” Gordon asked respectfully.

Evadne frowned, about to answer when Thaddeus spoke first, “No, come in.”

The door opened, and with a lot of grunting and puffing.

Gordon and two b*dyguards, sweating profusely, carried a gigantic bed into the room!

It was so big that it barely fit through the door, and it took a lot of effort to get it inside.

“Mr. Thaddeus, I’ve bought the bed you ordered for Mrs. Abernathy!” Gordon huffed and puffed as he wiped the sweat off his brow.”

“Thank you. Just put it down,” Thaddeus nodded.

Evadne had been brought up in a life of luxury and could tell at a glance that the bed Thaddeus had bought for her was identical to the one at her home, valued at two hundred thousand dollars!

“Thaddeus, what are you up to?”

“You can’t sleep on the couch, and you don’t want to sleep in my bed, so I guess I’ll have to buy another one,” Thaddeus said, his tone as mild as a summer breeze.

She wouldn’t sleep well, and it would bother him.

Evadne was irritated by his presumption. She got up and went over to the large bed, balling her fists and punching it.

Oh, it was so soft.

Outside the window, the winter wind was howling.

It was quiet and warm in the room.

Their beds were side by side, and though there was a gulf between them, Thaddeus already felt as if they were sleeping in the same bed.

And Gordon, being the smart man he was, pushed the two beds as close as possible.

By the time Evadne realized it, it was too late. The three men quickly retreated, leaving her alone with Thaddeus, her helpless ex–husband..

Evadne lay on her back on the bed, closed her eyes, and breathed evenly.

Thaddeus also lay on his back, the faint fragrance from her hair caused his heart to race, and the monotonous ceiling seemed to be filled with romantic and brilliant stars.

His palm was wet and hot, his fingers trembling slightly as they moved towards Evadne,

“Stay put,” Evadne’s icy voice suddenly echoed in the darkness.

Thaddeus‘ fingers stiffened.

“Or tonight will be the last time you have a right hand.”

A bead of sweat trickled down Thaddeus‘ forehead, and he sighed helplessly.

Thaddeus lay there like a corpse, not sure how long he had been there.

Finally, Evadne’s breathing became steady, her exhalation was like an orchid. She had fallen asleep.

Thaddeus swallowed hard, took a deep breath, and with great determination, slowly but firmly held her warm hand.

He held on tightly, their fingers intertwined.

“Évadne, I love you. Good night.”

Thaddeus closed his eyes contentedly and quickly fell asleep.

After a while, accompanied by the slight sound of snoring, Evadne quietly lifted her eyelashes, her heartbeat was so intense.

“Scoundrel, good night.”

After taking care of Thaddeus for two days, Evadne went back to her home in Skyrim.

On the one hand, she hadn’t been home for days and was worried about Myra. On the other hand, she wanted to ask Surl if there was a way to eradicate or effectively control Thaddeus‘ aftermath.

After all, although she was Dr. Eve, she couldn’t cure everything.

“Nydia, how is Myra doing?” Evadnechugged Nydia, whose eyes were red, and asked with concern.

“She has been hiding in her room and refuses to see anyone. She didn’t eat anything yesterday, and the light in her room has been on all the time. I’m afraid she didn’t sleep.”

Nydia was crying as she spoke, “I’m afraid she will do something stupid because of the shock! Evadne, what should we do?”

“Don’t worry, your mother may seem weak, but she is very strong inside. She won’t be easily defeated. Don’t worry.” Evadne patted Nydia’s trembling back, clearly feeling that she had lost a lot of weight.

It hurt her to see her family like this, being hurt and manipulated by those with cruel intentions.

“Miss Evadne, you’re finally back.”

Jason came over, his clear eyes had huge black rim, “Don’t worry. I’ve been taking turns with two other b*dyguards to guard Myra 24/7. She won’t be in any danger. Don’t worry.”

“Myra has b*dyguards, servants, Suri, Aviana, and my dad. I left you at home to take care of Nydia. Look at what you’ve done! I asked you to feed her well, but you made her skinny!“,

Evadne had been holding back her anger for a while, and she couldn’t help but vent on Jason.

Jason was full of guilt and kept apologizing, “I’m sorry, Miss–Evadne. I didn’t take good care of Ms. Nydia. Please punish me.”

“Evadne, don’t punish Jason! He’s already very busy and tired, and he has been taking good care of me: He really tried his best. Don’t blame him, okay?” Nydia’s face turned pale with fright. She kept begging, afraid that she would cause trouble for Jason.

“Humph, if you’re wrong, you’re wrong. Jason, I’ll punish you by taking Nydia out for relaxation. Go to the best restaurant in Skyrim and have some good food. Also, take her to her favorite dessert shop. Don’t come back until it gets dark, got it?” Evadne said with an impassive facè

Nydia was dumbfounded.

Jason felt a pang in his heart, his eyes filled with a gentle smile as he looked at Nydia, “Ms. Nydia, I’m afraid you’ll have to bear with me today.”

This wasn’t a punishment.

Being able to have a date with Jason was something she couldn’t even dream of!

“Nydia, don’t worry.”

Evadne saw through Nydia’s thoughts and stroked her long hair lovingly, “I’m here at home. Nothing will go wrong. You’ve been working hard for so many days, you should rest. It’s not good for your health to be so tense. Go out with Jason for a change.”

She sent Jason and Nydia away with comforting words, and instead of rushing to see Myra, Evadne went to find Suri.

“Don’t go see her yet. She won’t even see your dad, which shows how big a shock she’s received. She needs some time alone.” Suri looked sad, and the thought of what had happened that day made her heart heavy.

“I’ll try to talk to Myra later.”

Evadne pursed her l*ps and remained silent for a while before speaking softly, “Suri, I have a favor to ask.”

“What are you talking about! A favor!”

Suri looked at her reproachfully, lightly poking her fair cheek with her fingertip, “If you’re going to be so formal with me, don’t come to me when you need something!”

Evadne chuckled and rested her head on Suri’s shoulder, “I’m sorry, I was wrong. I’ll just say it. Suri, I’ve heard you mention before that your nephew is a very excellent neurosurgeon? Is he the youngest doctor in the history of the Royal Medical Academy?”

“You mean, Chasel?” Suri frowned slightly.

“Yes. Chasel Bright, Dr. Chasel.”

Evadne’s face turned red with embarrassment, “Could you, please, invite him over? I need his help.”

Suri blinked, scrutinizing her for several rounds, “What? Are you two having an online romance?”

Evadne was speechless.

“You’re bringing him back, are you in a hurry to run off with him?”

Suri got herself all excited, clapping her hands together, “Oh my, that would be marvelous! The son of a prestigious family and a wealthy heiress, a perfect match. Plus, Chasel is my nephew, a known quantity, and family to boot! I fully support this match!”

Evadne furrowed her brow in exasperation, forcing a smile, “Suri! Where is your mind wandering off to? I’m asking Dr. Chasel to return because I desperately need his help! Last time in the parking lot, Thaddeus suffered a severe head injury while saving me. Despite surgery, he was left with after–effects. I’m unable to help him recover, so I thought, perhaps Dr. Chasel might be able to treat him.””

Suri watched Evadne’s worried expression, her emotions a confusing mix.

She still deeply resented Thaddeus, but she couldn’t deny the man had once again proven his worth.

“Suri, what’s wrong? Are you unwilling?”

Evadne sighed in frustration, feeling guilty, “I was being presumptuous. I forgot, you almost cut all ties with the Bright family to be with my father. I have put you in a difficult position.”

“Well, it’s not exactly like that. It’s true I don’t have much contact with the Bright family, but over the years, I’ve always been on good terms with Chasel, and he has always respected me. It’s just that Chasel is a bit quirky, even I can’t fully understand him. I will do my best to persuade him to come, but if he

refuses, there’s not much I can do.”

“If he refuses, I have a way.”

Evadne gritted her teeth, her eyes narrowing slightly, “If all else fails, I’ll give Elvis a call. He has his ways, he could have Chasel shipped across the ocean in no time.”
