Lailah watched everything from the side, speechless.
Though Jonathan appears to be a gentlemanly young man, his style of doing things is brutal! It was apparent that the Smealander was afraid of Jonathan as he knelt obediently without hesitation.
Satisfied that he had gotten his revenge, Jonathan uttered, “Make the call.” The Smealander was puzzled and asked with a shaky voice, “W-What?" “You were bullied, so call your boss!” Jonathan answered.
The Smealander instantly paled. “No, no need for that. | deserved to be taught a lesson for my words, and you did the right thing, sir.” However, Jonathan snapped at him irritably, “Just do as | say, or I'll continue hitting you.” “You really want me to do that?” The Smealander still sounded uncertain.
How can there be such a person!
“Yes. Do it!” Jonathan ordered.
The Smealander finally determined that the other man was not joking, so he took out his phone with shaky hands and called his boss.
Less than a minute after the Smealander made the call, three black Mercedes-Benz cars came into the residential area and pulled over in front of him.
Immediately afterward, the doors opened, and ten men got out of the three cars.
All of them were wearing black shirts, had a buzz cut, and gave off an air of intimidation.
Among those men were Remdiks, Chanaeans, and Smealanders from Anglandur.
The man in the lead was a Chanaean named Raul Summer.
He was in his thirties and was in the final stage of Neutralizing Force.
His shrewd behavior had earned him both fear and respect from others.
Raul was not reckless. He accessed the situation and understood that the problem was on Jonathan's side, so he came over and stopped one meter before the latter. “Hello, sir. I'm the head of security. Is there some kind of misunderstanding going on here?” he asked cordially.
Jonathan was not an unreasonable person, so he toned down his attitude when he saw how Raul spoke amiably. “I wish to meet your boss,” he said.
Raul's expression changed slightly. “Why do you wish to meet my boss?” Jonathan replied honestly, “My companion and | have gotten into trouble with our enemies, but we couldn't find any trace of them. | just thought that your boss might have connections and can help us find them.” Hearing that, Raul replied, “I'm afraid—" Jonathan interjected with a smile, “I know that it's not appropriate to seek help without any reason, but... Forget it.
Since you're also a combat artist, let's fight.” With that, he took a step forward and ruthlessly reached out to grab Raul's wrist using Dragon Claw.
Raul was taken aback. The hairs on his body stood on end as he reacted as fast as lightning.
However, at that moment, something strange happened.
He was confident that he could dodge the attack, but Jonathan grabbed his hand swiftly like a phantom.
Raul felt that the latter's hand was hot like a furnace, which made him dare not move a muscle.
“A Nascent Soul immortal?” he asked anxiously.
Jonathan flashed him a smile before releasing his hand. “I think that with my ability, | should be qualified to trouble your boss for a little help, right?” Raul's face turned pale as he looked at Jonathan with fear and awe in his eyes. “I'll need to report to my boss first,” he quickly replied.
“Sure!” Jonathan responded.
Raul took his phone and went to the side to make a call, while Jonathan and Lailah stood together and waited silently.
Lailah found herself having a little admiration for Jonathan at that moment. Although he seems reckless, he has his own principles when handling matters.
Soon, Raul came over and said to Jonathan and Lailah, “Boss wants to see you. Please come with me.” As he spoke, he respectfully opened the car door for them.
Jonathan and Lailah got into the car immediately.
Meanwhile, Raul sat in the driver's seat and started the car.
The car headed toward the far east the entire way and stopped in front of a mansion three minutes later.
Two tall and imposing bodyguards stood in front of the mansion.
Additionally, the gate was made using nanotechnology, making it hard to be blasted open by ordinary guns and weaponry.
Jonathan took it all in once he got out of the car and understood that the boss had a formidable status.
A person of no status wouldn't be so afraid of death and maintain such a high level of security.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtRaul approached the two bodyguards and whispered a few words to them.
The two bodyguards first glanced at Jonathan and Lailah before reporting their presence in a phone call. Finally, they opened the door and let everyone in.
The luxurious living room of the mansion had a Swarovski crystals concept as every corner seemed to glitter in the light, while the floor was covered with a carpet of golden embroidery.
Jonathan and Lailah were ushered by Raul to sit on a couch in the living room. As a housekeeper quickly came over to serve them coffee, Raul went to inform his boss of their arrival.
Not long after, a middle-aged Irethiel man came down from the second floor. The man was dressed in a white shirt and
was well-built, a picture of elegance. As soon as he came downstairs, he came forward and greeted them warmly in Ustranasian, “My apologies for not coming out in time to greet my honored guests.” Jonathan and Lailah naturally did not put on an air of arrogance and quickly stood up. The former flashed the man a smile before replying in Ustranasian, “I hope you won't mind our abrupt visit.” The Irethiel man smiled back before responding, “You're too courteous. We are all friends in this world!” He gestured for Jonathan and Lailah to take a seat before doing so himself.
After that, he continued, “My name is Isaac Mendenhall.
How should | address you both?” Jonathan and Lailah then introduced themselves to him.
“So you're Mr. Lawson and Ms. Hall.” Isaac paused before continuing, “I'm very fond of making new friends, especially Chanaeans like you two. | don't know why but | felt a
natural sense of closeness with Chanaeans, and | look forward to visiting Chanaea someday.” He was merely uttering some pleasantry.
Jonathan smiled and replied, “Should you visit Chanaea, Mr. Mendenhall, I'l treat you as an honored guest.” Isaac let out a boisterous laugh. “I'll take your word for it then.” “Of course!” Jonathan answered.
Isaac did not beat around the bush. Being extremely perceptive, he instantly knew from Raul's words that Jonathan was an extremely formidable man, so he immediately wanted to be acquainted with the latter. He immediately said, “I just heard from Mr. Summer that you've encountered some trouble and need my help, Mr. Lawson.
Just tell me. | won't say no if it's within my means.” “I shall thank you in advance then.” After saying that, Jonathan took out his phone and brought up Gabriel's information and portrait, which he obtained from Lailah.
“Mr. Mendenhall, | hope you can help me find this person.” Jonathan said, “I'm quite certain he's in this city.” Isaac took Jonathan's phone and studied the information carefully. A short while later, he said cheerily, “Okay. I'll get my subordinates to look into it quickly.” He paused briefly before adding, “Mr. Lawson, please send the information to my phone.” After he finished speaking, he took out his phone, which was an iPhone.
Jonathan paired his device with Isaac's via Bluetooth before sending the information over.
Following that, Isaac handed his phone over to Raul and instructed, “Send this information to everyone's phones and tell them to take note of this person. Once there's any news, report to me immediately.” “Understood!” Raul replied respectfully.
After making the arrangements, Isaac flashed Jonathan and Lailah a smile again and said, “I'm sure you both haven't had lunch, right? I'll get someone to prepare it now.”
Jonathan and Lailah exchanged glances. They still had many questions to ask Isaac, so they did not refuse his offer.
Big shots like Isaac were broad-minded and had wide social circles, so he naturally would not offend capable people like Jonathan and Lailah.
Since both parties were interested in getting acquainted, they naturally hit it off right away.
While waiting for lunch, Isaac inquired, “Mr. Lawson, Ms.
Hall, you both just arrived here, right?” Jonathan nodded. “We just arrived yesterday.” “I'm sure you don't have transportation here, right? It's not very convenient to have no means of transportation here, so I'll arrange a car and a driver for you. It'll make it easier for you to do things,” Isaac offered.
The two instantly could not contain their happiness. “That would be great. Thank you,” Jonathan replied graciously.
Isaac's lips curled into a grin. “You're being too polite. It's no
big deal.” He then added, “Since Mr. Summer is Chanaean and it's easy for him to communicate with you two, I'l let him be in charge then.” “The choice is yours,” Jonathan remarked.
Just then, Lailah spoke up. “Have you heard of the Third Sacred Temple, Mr. Mendenhall?” Isaac was slightly taken aback and scrutinized his guests again before saying flatly, “I've never heard of it.” It was apparent that he did not like people inquiring about it.
Acold glint flashed across Lailah's eyes. She was a temperamental person whose mood changed quickly. “I've got a feeling that you've heard of it, Mr. Mendenhall,” she commented.
The atmosphere suddenly changed from the previous harmonious note to a somewhat awkward one.
Isaac's expression changed drastically upon sensing Lailah's intimidating aura. He felt short of breath, and his
face also turned pale.
Isaac had always thought that only Jonathan was a powerful person, but he realized at that moment that Lailah was equally formidable.
He took a deep breath and smiled bitterly before saying, “The Third Sacred Temple has only been mentioned in the Yartranian doomsday theory. Over the years, many scholars have discussed the Third Sacred Temple without any conclusion. The truth is that the Third Sacred Temple didn't exist at all. That Crying Wall is indeed the site of the Second Sacred Temple. Where can there be a Third Sacred Temple?” He looked at Jonathan and Lailah once he had finished speaking. “Mr. Lawson, Ms. Hall, you didn't come here for King Sergiu's treasure, did you?” Jonathan met his gaze and knew that it was pointless to deny it at that moment. After all, they were all clever people. He decided to answer straightforwardly, “That's right. We didn't come here for money but to unravel certain
matters. My girlfriend and | are very interested in archaeology.” Isaac's smile appeared slightly wry. “As a native of ‘Yeringham, I've seen far too many archaeologists and explorers coming here to search for the treasure of King Sergiu. However, they all returned empty- handed. | ‘sometimes even think that the so-called treasure of King Sergiu is nothing more than a legendary hoax that does not exist at all.”
Isaac's words were exactly what Jonathan had in mind.
However, both he and Lailah had no choice but to believe that King Sergiu's treasure existed. Otherwise, they would lose their only source of motivation.
As Isaac couldn't provide other information regarding the legend of the Third Sacred Temple, Lailah caved in and asked, “Mr. Mendenhall, is there anyone here who knows a lot about King Sergiu's treasure, the Crying Wall, or the ruins of the Sacred Temple?” Isaac pondered over her question for a moment. “There is ‘someone who has conducted thorough research on King Sergiu's treasure.” “Who is it?” Lailah urged as her eyes lit up.
Isaac told her, “That would be Professor Ranen Horowitz.
He spent almost fifty years researching King Sergiu's treasure, and he's now an elderly man. However, he still failed to find any clues leading him to King Sergiu's treasure.”
Jonathan and Lailah's hearts sank. The researcher failed to find any clues despite researching for the past fifty years, so it seemed impossible for them to find the treasure in a month.
Despite so, Jonathan and Lailah were determined and refused to give up easily. They were already prepared to give their all before accepting the mission.
Lailah asked, “Mr. Mendenhall, can you introduce us to Professor Horowitz?” “Sure, no problem. | can ask my men to invite Professor Horowitz here as long as he's in the city,” Isaac agreed readily.
“Thank you,” Lailah expressed her gratitude.
Isaac chuckled and replied, “No problem.” He then went to the balcony to make the call.
Five minutes later, Isaac returned with a frown marring his brows. “Professor Horowitz has stage four liver cancer and can't live for long. His family refused to let him meet you.”
Lailah asked, “Can you help us find out which hospital he is in? We can visit him ourselves.” Isaac told her, “He has been admitted to Peace River Hospital. | need to ask about his ward.” “Thank you!” Lailah said.
“You're welcome,” Isaac responded.
He then found out Ranen's ward for them. After getting the information they needed, Lailah got to her feet. “We won't be staying for lunch. Thank you for your generosity, Mr.
Mendenhall. Jonathan, let's go.” Jonathan stood up and shot Isaac an apologetic look. “My apologies.” Isaac found Jonathan more likable, so he said, “That's a pity. | shall extend an invitation next time.” After a pause, he summoned Raul to give Jonathan and Lailah a ride.
After making the arrangements, Isaac walked Jonathan and Lailah to the door.
Raul drove a Mercedes-Benz with Jonathan and Lailah in the back seat.
The duo had earned Raul's utmost respect after everything that had happened.
After driving out of Mylers Residences, he glanced at the rearview mirror and asked, “Your destination is Peace River Hospital right?” “Yes, that's right,” came Lailah's answer.
“No!” Jonathan cut in.
Raul was taken aback, for he had no idea who to listen to.
Lailah shot Jonathan a furious look. “What was that?” Jonathan reminded her, “Did you forget why we came here? Our target is Gabriel.” Lailah still couldn't understand his intention. “We don't have news about his whereabouts, right? We will deal with him once we receive news.” Jonathan remained unfazed. “I came to Mr. Mendenhall not because | thought he could help us find Gabriel. Gabriel is a sly fox. Even if we go to him, he can escape the scene
before we arrive.” Lailah grew curious. “Then why did you come here?” Raul found it odd, too.
Jonathan explained, “Gabriel is good at scheming. If I'm not mistaken, he'll soon come to Mr. Mendenhall and come up with a scheme to persecute us. Thus, I've decided to wait in Mylers Residences. We shall kill Gabriel the moment he arrives.” Lailah's eyes lit up. She glanced at Jonathan as her admiration for his intelligence grew.
Raul spoke up. “What should we do now?” Jonathan turned to look at him. “Raul, here's a chance for you to make a contribution. Your chance of success is entirely up to you.” Raul was baffled. “Mr. Lawson, what do you mean?” Jonathan revealed, “My enemy might hold Mr. Mendenhall hostage, so we need to head back to save him. | shall give you the credit and claim that you were the one who insisted
on heading back.” Something glinted across Raul's eyes. Seemingly excited, he said, “Thank you so much, Mr. Lawson.” Jonathan chuckled. “No problem. Mr. Mendenhall and the rest can't know about this. We can't afford to alert the enemy.” “I know what to do,” Raul assured him. He knew that this wouldn't bring him any harm. Even if Jonathan and Lailah wanted to harm Isaac, he would be no match for them.
Night fell, and Grand Yeringham Hotel was still brightly lit.
In the presidential suite, Gabriel kept muttering as he was busy calculating something.
After concluding his calculations, he opened his eyes without warning.
Lucio had been watching him from aside carefully and immediately asked, “Have you gotten something?” Sweat beaded on Gabriel's forehead. Staring ahead intently, he ordered, “Yes. You need to hurry up, or they will
start to counterattack us.” Lucio could barely hide his shock. “Why is that?” he urged.
Gabriel revealed, “In the future, | distinctly saw them getting help from a local big shot. Jonathan told the big shot to investigate us, so our location will be exposed soon. Once Jonathan and Lailah joined hands to stop us, we won't be able to survive.” The color drained out of Lucio's face. Flustered, he asked, “What should we do?” He had completely given up on reasoning before Gabriel.
Gabriel told him, “I can't figure out who the big shot is, but he's in the southeastern area. Find out who is more influential there. Jonathan must've enlisted the help of ‘someone from the underground circles instead of the government. That would be too complicated and time- consuming.” “I'l do that right now,” Lucio promised.
Gabriel nodded.
Lucio then left in a hurry.
Half an hour later, Lucio's investigation proved fruitful.
“There are two big shots in the northeastern area —Isaac and Benoni,” he reported.
Gabriel calculated with his fingers and soon came up with the final answer. “It's Isaac. Go find Isaac,” he exclaimed.
“Got it!” Lucio responded and made to leave.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmBefore he could leave, Gabriel called out, “Wait a minute!” He pulled out a tiny porcelain bottle and instructed, “This is Incense of Lost Souls, created by the Crimson Onyx Sect.
When you see Isaac, sprinkle this on his body. The incense will transfer to Jonathan and the rest if they come into contact with Isaac frequently.” Lucio nodded vehemently. “Got it.” Gabriel reminded him, “Use Isaac to stall time with Jonathan and the rest.” “I understand,” Lucio assured him.
He took the porcelain bottle and left.
An hour later, Lucio appeared outside Mylers Residences.
He was skilled enough to climb over the wall and sneak into the residential area stealthily.
Lucio then located Isaac's mansion.
There were many mansions in the residential area, and Lucio didn't manage to find out Isaac's mansion beforehand.
However, he had achieved the cultivation level of Celestial Soul and was skilled in observing and discerning different auras.
Every mansion was occupied by different people with different auras.
Besides, security was tight at Isaac's mansion. That was why it stood out from the rest. Hence, Lucio found it in no time and slunk all the way to the exterior of Isaac's mansion.
He wanted to keep a low profile instead of causing a ‘commotion that might alert Jonathan and Lailah.
Lucio came to a stop at the door of the mansion. The two burly bodyguards at the door saw a shadow appearing in a flash. Before they could even do anything, Lucio promptly slashed their throats.
Despite his old age, Lucio was skilled enough to kill them quickly and neatly.
The door was sturdy, but he wasn't afraid at all. With a punch, he crashed the lock into pieces.
The door creaked open.
It was useless to have a sturdy door if the lock wasn't strong enough.
Those with guns or cannons would focus on firing the door, but Lucio targeted the lock and broke it with his fist.
Hence, the seemingly sturdy door wouldn't stand a chance against an expert.
Lucio disappeared in a flash and entered the mansion.
Isaac was reading the newspapers on the couch. He
seemed quite distracted after Jonathan and Lailah's visit.
It looks like | won't get any peace unless | help Jonathan solve their problem. | won't be asking my men to go after Jonathan and Lailah. Raul told me that even Optimus was no match for them in the underground circles of Yeringham.
I know how capable Optimus is. It is too troublesome and dangerous to go against them, so I'd rather help them to achieve their goal.
As soon as Isaac raised his head, he spotted Lucio, who looked like the grim reaper.
Lucio might've acted foolishly before Gabriel, but he was back to his usual arrogant Peacock King self when Gabriel wasn't around.
Isaac felt an overwhelming pressure from Lucio.
Scrambling to his feet, he demanded anxiously, “Who are you?” Lucio didn't understand Irethielian and ignored his question.
Scoffing coldly, he spoke in Chanaean. “I've killed your bodyguards who were standing guard outside. Answer my
questions honestly. | shall make sure you die a horrible death if you dare to hide anything from me!” Isaac was confused after Lucio made the speech, for he didn't understand Chanaean.
He could speak in Ustranasian, so he immediately spoke to Lucio in Ustranasian.
Alas, Lucio had been in Chanaea his whole life. He was a martial artist in his seventies and couldn't understand a word in Ustranasian.
Lucio was dumbfounded.
Never in his wildest dreams did he know he would run into trouble communicating with others.
Frustrated, he demanded, “Find someone who can speak Chanaean!” A murderous aura exuded from him, which made a chill go down Isaac's spine.
He was smart enough to guess what Lucio's demand was
despite not understanding what the latter just said.
Nodding, he said, “I'l go get an interpreter right now.” “Lucio, why don't | be your interpreter?” Right then, someone drawled outside the mansion.
