Ranen gave Jonathan a questioning look, unsure why he was asking him that question. Still, he answered, “Of course God exists.” Yartranians had absolute faith in their God, so they would not question whether or not God existed.
That was something obvious from how they had to pray by the Crying Wall with a hat since young. Wearing a hat was essential, for they did not want to face God with their heads as that was a sign of disrespect.
Hence, Jonathan said, “Everything that happens, exists, and will happen, are God's will. If you can provide us with information to let us find King Sergiu's treasure, then that is God's will. God is granting your wish after many years of hard work. If we can't find it, then that's God's will too. God doesn't want King Sergiu's treasure to reappear in this world.” A pause after, he went on, “Now, King Sergiu's treasure is more worthy in its historical value than its financial value. Our times need to improve; we need to refresh our judgment and knowledge about the past. What
do you think, Professor Horowitz?" Lailah was awestruck. Everything Jonathan had said struck the right spot in Ranen's heart. In other words, Jonathan knew what the client wanted.
If the man was in sales, he would be an excellent salesman.
“God's will?” Ranen snapped his brows together as his determination wavered.
Jonathan said nothing else and waited patiently for Ranen to make his decision.
Half a beat later, Ranen said to Jonathan. “All right, I'll work with you.” It seemed like he had made up his mind.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJonathan smiled and said, “To be honest, you don't need to feel hesitant about this. People have been unable to find King Sergiu's treasure for thousands of years, so it's unlikely that we'll find it too. We're only leaving this up to fate.”
Ranen sighed. “God's will. Is it God's will to bury King Sergiu's treasure forever?” However, Lailah asked the most important question, “Professor Horowitz, do you think that King Sergiu's treasure exists?” Ranen instantly replied, “Of course.” Lailah continued in a straightforward manner, “Then why hasn't anyone found it after thousands of years? Moreover, why are you sure that it exists? You live in the same century as we do, so what makes you certain that the treasure from Before the Common Era exists? Maybe it's a legend, or maybe it's a myth. Maybe it's just a trickery from time itself.” However, Ranen was not annoyed by her question, for he was a researcher, and King Sergiu's treasure was his area of interest.
Thus, he welcomed the questions of others.
After all, there was no way one would learn unless they were taught.
Ranen said, “The legends say that the Holy Chest and Sinai Bible were placed on the Holy Boulder. Before that, people had found an underground tunnel passage in the Serity Monastery. That passage leads to the ruins of the Second Sacred Temple. It was there | saw the Holy Boulder myself.” After a pause, he continued, “The boulder is exactly as described in the legends. It's the Yartranian's sacred boulder! The government has tried to move it several times to exhibit it, but alas, no one could move it. The Holy Boulder remains where it was found.” Lailah hummed. “But you still didn't see the missing Holy Chest and Sinai Bible. Professor Horowitz, are you certain because of that?” Ranen replied, “Legend has it, the Holy Chest has the power to make time and space five- dimensional.” Jonathan tilted his head to the side and said, “I've heard about three-dimensional space with width, height, and length. With time, it would be a four-dimensional space. But
what is a five-dimensional space?” Neither Jonathan nor Lailah had heard about five- dimensional space.
Ranen explained, “The five-dimensional space is a hypothesis from the scientists. Time, along with the three parameters that make up three-dimensional space, will be considered as a four-dimensional space. Five would be to consider time physically. It would be as if the years 1949 and 1950 are tangible objects in line in front of you. Each year is an independent item placed in a parallel manner.
The Holy Chest's ability is to create a five-dimensional space and allow people to enter the year they want to.” Jonathan raised his brows in understanding and muttered under his breath, “D*mn, doesn't that mean the Holy Chest is a time-traveling machine?” “We understand now, Professor Horowitz. Please continue.” “Meanwhile, in the legends, the Sinai Bible is a creation from the beginning of time and records everything in the world. As long as one can decipher its code, one will be
able to find the past and current lives of everyone. They will even be able to predict future events and look back in the ancient past.” Athrilled look danced across Lailah's eyes when she heard that, but she concealed it from the others. After taking in a deep breath, she said, “Professor Horowitz, are you sure that the Sinai Bible allows people to look into the past?” Ranen turned to Lailah and told her, “I've seen a line of text on the Holy Boulder. That is a password unique to Yartranians. After | deciphered it, | realized that it was a record.” “What did it record?” Lailah asked, her breathing quickening.
Jonathan cast a curious glance at Lailah. Lailah is so adamant about finding the Sinai Bible, and she's so agitated upon hearing that the Sinai Bible will allow people to peek into the past. Could it be that she wants to use the Sinai Bible to look into something?
Ranen had talked for a long time, so he was starting to tire out.
In fact, he began to pant.
Lailah quickly took out another Spirit Gathering Pill and wanted to feed it to Ranen.
Jonathan leaped in fright and quickly stopped her.
“Professor Horowitz is weak right now. If he consumes another pill, it'll end up worsening his condition, and that'll be bad.” Lailah froze initially, but she soon realized that Jonathan's words made sense. Hence, she kept the Spirit Gathering Pill away.
In the meantime, Jonathan patted Ranen's back to help him breathe easier.
A beat later, Ranen recovered. He went on, “On it recorded King Sergiu's story. King Sergiu made a mistake during his fight with the Holy Knights, and that mistake resulted in his people's deaths. Later on, King Sergiu used the Holy Chest to time travel back to the moment before the fight, and he
avoided making the same mistake. In the end, he won.” At that, Ranen paused for a moment. “But ever since that fight, King Sergiu's physical condition took a turn for the worse. Supposedly, it was because he used the Holy Chest to change history. So, he had to bear the consequences for it. You have to know this: King Sergiu was a legendary warrior who had a strong physique and was more powerful than ferocious beasts, but a man like him ended up dying from illnesses.” Jonathan had been reading up on King Sergiu lately, so he chimed in, “But the files | read said that the old King Sergiu followed his concubine to pray to multiple deities instead of to Hathar, who his father faithfully prayed to his whole life.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmTherefore, he incited the rage of Hathar. Hathar sent the prophet Ashja to tear one of his new coats into twelve pieces outside the city of Yeringham and asked Jeram to take ten pieces. That meant that after the death of Sergiu, God would split the unified kingdom into two kingdoms. The kingdom of the north, Irethiel, consisted of ten tribes and was ruled by Jeram. On the other hand, the kingdom in the
south, Yartran, was left with two tribes and continued to be ruled by King Sergius son, Robam. After that, King Sergiu fell gravely ill and soon passed away.” “Where did you see this from?” Ranen asked Jonathan.
Jonathan froze for a second before he awkwardly replied, “From Netpedia.” It was Ranen's turn to freeze. “What's Netpedia?” Lailah explained, “Netpedia is an online encyclopedia. The little bits of things he knows all come from the internet.” Ranen huffed and widened his eyes in anger. “Nonsense! Everything on the internet is written by netizens who only hear bits and pieces from others. How true can it be? They're all just a game of whisper down the lane!” Jonathan was rendered speechless by Ranen's words. He decided not to try to flaunt his knowledge anymore.
After all, Ranen was a genuine specialist in King Sergiu's treasure. He was doing nothing but embarrassing himself by trying to correct Ranen with whatever he had read online.
Lailah then said, “Professor Horowitz, how did you know that the Sinai Bible can be used to peer into the past, then?” Ranen told her, “That's because the record on the Holy Boulder says that King Sergiu was upset and in agony about his physical condition after he fell gravely ill. He could ‘somewhat guess that it was because he used the Holy Chest. However, he wanted to use the Sinai Bible to find the way to resolve that.” A moment later, he continued, “King Sergiu wasn't just a warrior. To us Yartranians, he was also the king of wisdom. He deciphered the Sinai Bible, but on the day he did, he died. Later records state that his actions—whether it was the time traveling with the Holy Chest or the search for history and the future through the Sinai Bible—were forbidden divine actions. That was why King Sergiu suffered terrible consequences.” Both Jonathan and Lailah fell silent.
Half a beat later, Lailah said, “Professor Horowitz, you spent most of your life studying King Sergiu's treasure. I'll
be honest with you then. | want to look for King Sergiu's treasure because | want to use the Sinai Bible to find out about my history—my birth circumstances. It's important to me.” Ranen's eyes flitted toward Lailah, surprised by her honesty.
Her words confirmed the speculations Jonathan had earlier.
Lailah really is trying to use the Sinai Bible to find out about something.
Ranen then told her, “If | can see the Sinai Bible and the Holy Chest before | die, I'll be able to die without regrets.
But, young lady, I'll be honest with you too. Instead of relying on the Sinai Bible to find out what your history is, | think it'll be more realistic to investigate the people around you instead. That'll be easier to accomplish.” Lailah shook her head. “My master raised me since young.
When | asked my master about my background, he told me that | was an orphan.”
