Chapter 299 The world was never short of curiosities.

In this vast universe, humans were nothing but frogs in the well.

Some people carried themselves with boundless insolence, thinking that they were the best of the best. On the other hand, some people were in awe of heaven and earth, so they went about their lives as though they were walking on thin ice.

In the middle of the night, an intense fight was going on between a group of humans and ghosts.

Fortunately, no ordinary person was around at this moment. Otherwise, they would've been scared out of their wits if they saw the scene.

Mabel and Beatrix joined forces, making it impossible for the soul bringer to get close to them.

In the meantime, Jonathan was fighting hard against the terrifyingly powerful Eonetara Beast. Every time it opened its mouth, a dark energy sword surged out, bringing along

the metallic stench of blood.

Several deep gouges had formed across the ground from the beast's attacks—such was its power.

‘When Jonathan was on the ground, the Eonetara Beast lunged forward and pounced on him. It pressed one of its forepaws on his chest and swung at his throat with the other.

It was extremely savage! The coppery smell of blood rushed into his nose.

Without having the time to think, Jonathan immediately executed his Mongrel Attack. The strength he put behind his kick mustn't be underestimated either.

The Eonetara Beast spat out another dark energy blade.

Jonathan tilted his head, dodging the attack, even as the beast dashed forward and avoided his kick.

The time it took for the beast to dodge the attack was enough for Jonathan to get back up on his feet.

He turned around to face the Eonetara Beast in an instant.

Scowling, it roared at him ferociously.

Jonathan's gaze darkened, but he remained still.

All of a sudden, the beast sped in his direction, unleashing yet another burst of lightning-speed attacks. As soon as it sprung over, another dark energy sword flew from its maw.

Jonathan's attention was focused solely on the beast.

Thus, the moment the beast opened its mouth, he was aware of what it was going to do. He tilted his body to the side, allowing the sword to whoosh past him.

At the same time, the beast opened its mouth wide, ready to bite him.

“Go and die!” Taking out a high-explosive grenade, Jonathan pulled its pin and threw the bomb into the beast's mouth.

Luckily, I insisted on bringing grenades with me. Otherwise, it's going to be hard to take down this beast.

The skin of the Eonetara Beast was just too tough.

On top of that, it was a weapon spirit. It had no internal organs, so there was no way for Jonathan to Kill it with his punches.

Even if he used the Demon Slayer, it would be difficult to cause any damage significant enough to destroy the beast.

However, the grenade was different as it would attack the beast from the inside after being tossed in its mouth.

The grenade's power was as great as that of Level Ten Divine Masters. The difference between them was that the mana of the masters had to be infused externally, whereas the grenade would explode inside the beast.

The beast only had itself to blame. Its mouth was so big that it seemed like a sink when the beast opened it.

‘When Jonathan threw the grenade, it was as if he had made a slam dunk.

Boom! In an instant, fiery flames lit up the sky.

The Eonetara Beast was reduced to ashes in a split

second.

The soul bringer's face turned pale for a moment before intense fury flitted across his eyes.

“What do you mortals think you're doing? Are you courting death?” The soul bringer was foaming at the mouth.

The Eonetara Beast was the Phantom Ruler's weapon spirit. Usually, the soul bringer didn't need to involve himself in any fights as the Phantom Ruler and its weapon spirit were more than enough to do the job.

The beast was an important assistant of the soul bringer.

Losing it was equivalent to losing his right- hand man. How could he not be enraged? On top of that, it took at least a hundred years to attain a weapon spirit.

Now his hundred years of effort had gone down the drain.

Such pain was unimaginable.

The soul bringer accelerated his attacks on Beatrix, the ruler in his hand akin to a sharp sword. Every move was powerful.

He wasn't giving Beatrix a chance to make it out alive.

Beatrix used the Demon Slayer to deal with him, her expression calm. Meanwhile, Mabel lurked close by, launching her attacks every time a good opportunity presented itself.

At that moment, Jonathan roared, unleashing his Great Sage Force Field.

He lunged forward all of a sudden.

As he had tapped into his Haemocore, his strength had surged up to nine thousand pounds in an instant.

What that meant was that he was currently unleashing the strength of someone at the final stage of Celestial Soul.

“Great Sage Seal!” Jonathan appeared behind the soul bringer and crushed him with his palm.

Right then, the sky lost its light as darkness descended upon them.

In truth, it was a reckless attack, but Jonathan managed to

break the stalemate.

The soul bringer sneered and didn't say anything. As quick as lightning, the Phantom Ruler moved and stabbed at Jonathan's underarm.

The move was so unexpected that it caught Jonathan off guard.

Mabel's and Beatrix's faces turned pale as they realized his life was at stake.

Jonathan's cultivation was worlds apart from the soul bringer's.

The attack was so abrupt that Jonathan didn't have the time to dodge.

Such impulsiveness had brought him only one end—death.

Despite that, Jonathan wasn't anyone ordinary. He was an extremely skilled strategist.

In the face of danger, he activated his Shadow Step and swiftly dodged the fatal attack from his opponent.

It wasn't because he was fast enough, but because he had

expected it. Great Sage Seal was his first move, and Shadow Step was his second. In other words, even before the soul bringer launched his attack, Jonathan had already moved to dodge.

However, due to the soul bringer’'s speed, it seemed as if Jonathan happened to avoid the charge.

At that moment, Beatrix released countless sound waves from Demon Slayer to attack the soul bringer.

As the sound waves roared forward, she activated the sword's formation, causing the speed of the weapon to suddenly double.

Crack! With no time to dodge, Beatrix's attack led to the soul bringer's arm exploding.

At the same time, Mabel lifted her palm and struck the soul bringer's back hard.

Thud! Jonathan sprung forward and threw a strong punch in his

chest without hesitation.

Boom! The soul bringer was sent flying before he crashed to the ground with a loud thud. He was so severely injured that he couldn't stand back up.

The three of them had successfully taken down the soul bringer of Eonetara Gate together.

Beatrix wasn't feeling happy. Walking over to the soul bringer, she said to Mabel and Jonathan, “Eonetara Gate represents the dignified underworld, and the soul bringer is a part of them. Now that we've attacked him, it means that we're challenging the ascendancy of Eonetara. If this matter isn't handled properly, we'll be doomed.” While she was talking, they had come to a stop in front of the soul bringer.

His arm was broken, but blood was no longer oozing out from the wound. He had used his strong vitality to stop the bleeding.

Though he was in a wretched state, intense wrath flashed across his eyes the moment he looked at them. “So you know about the might of Eonetara Gate. You're going to suffer the cruelest tribulation at Eonetara Gate for hurting me. Just wait and see! You'll soon wish for nothing but death!” the soul bringer sneered.

Mabel's and Beatrix's expression hardened. They knew the soul bringer wasn't making empty threats.

Beatrix, especially, knew how terrifying Eonetara Gate was.

That was the reason she didn't want to get on the ghost bus earlier. Unfortunately, since Jonathan had insisted, she had no choice as she worried Jonathan would act rashly and offend the soul bringer.

Little did she expect the soul bringer to be so bizarre. She hadn't even gotten the chance to talk things out with him at all before he engaged them in a fight.

Surprisingly, Jonathan was calm. Smiling, he said, “If | were you, | wouldn't threaten the other party like this.” “Who do you think you are to be speaking to me?” the soul

bringer scolded at once. Out of the three of them, he was the most displeased with Jonathan.

Jonathan shook his head. “Looks like you still don't understand your current predicament. Let me help you with that.” After he finished speaking, he suddenly kicked the soul bringer's face.

The soul bringer spat out a mouthful of bloody teeth in an instant.

After that, Jonathan stepped on his cheek, pinning the soul bringer's face to the ground.

Needless to say, the soul bringer was utterly furious. Being treated like this was the utmost humiliation to him.

“You're so dead, mortal!” the soul bringer said. “I will—" “Pfft!” Jonathan pressed his foot down harder. The soul bringer coughed up another mouthful of blood, unable to speak further.

The soul bringer wasn't actually a ghost, but a human with strong cultivation.

Although Eonetara Gate was a place to collect souls and dark energy, its members were all humans with different tasks and responsibilities.

Hence, soul bringers could bleed and hurt.

Jonathan asked, “Are you still not clear enough?” When Beatrix and Mabel saw how Jonathan was treating the soul bringer, the only thought that popped into their minds was that things had gotten out of hand. It's over.

There's nothing we can do now to turn the situation around.

Withdrawing his leg, Jonathan crouched in front of the soul bringer. He sighed. “How can you be a soul bringer with such low intelligence? Don't you know that you're seeking death when you don't show your enemies mercy? Since you said that you're going to make our lives miserable, perhaps we should Kill you first to prevent that from happening.” “Do you dare?” The soul bringer shot Jonathan an icy glare.

Jonathan said coldly, “Well, we've already offended you, so

it's going to be hard for us to survive. With that being said, | can Kill you right away and commit suicide after that. But why didn't | do that?” The soul bringer froze.

It seemed like he finally understood the situation.

“You've been here long enough to know that there's no reincarnation. When someone dies, they don't leave anything behind. You've cultivated for hundreds of years and possess great skills. It had not been easy for you to become who you are today. If you aren't afraid of death, why should we?” After pausing for a while, Jonathan continued, “Right now, you should think about keeping yourself alive instead of the punishment we'll receive.

Haven't you heard of how ‘The Art of War’ teaches people to win fights?” The soul bringer fell into deep thought.

He finally realized that though Jonathan's cultivation was the lowest, he was the most decisive person among the three.

He also realized that he had encountered his murderous tribulation today. If he couldn't deal with it properly, he would lose his hundred years of cultivation.

The more one owned, the more afraid one was of losing everything.

Unlike the soul bringer, these young people had nothing to lose. That was why they weren't afraid of taking risks or causing trouble.

On the contrary, the soul bringer had gone beyond living as just a mortal. Hence, he feared death much more than Jonathan and the rest.

Chapter 300 The soul bringer's thoughts did not go unnoticed by Jonathan.

He stopped humiliating the soul bringer and extended his hand to pull the latter up.

The soul bringer was severely injured and was at their mercy.

He was unconcerned about his missing arm, though, since he could use his immense vitality to grow another limb in the future.

Of course, losing a limb had resulted in him losing much vital energy. He would need some time to regain it.

Jonathan asked the soul bringer, “It seems you're willing to collaborate with us now?” The soul bringer had a complicated expression. After a long moment, he finally nodded.

Jonathan smiled and said, “That's good. Let's find an appropriate place to talk further.” The soul bringer uttered, “I only have an hour, or else |

won't make it back to Eonetara Gate. If I'm late, | won't be able to hide today's matter even if | want to.” Jonathan replied, “One hour is enough.” Then, Jonathan and the others brought the soul bringer to a quiet alley.

“What do | call you?” The soul bringer did not want to answer Jonathan, but he had no choice but to submit to the latter in his current circumstances. He muttered, “I'm Darion Green.” Jonathan enquired, “Darion, what's your position in Eonetara Gate?” “In Eonetara Gate, there are three million soul bringers.

They are divided into many classes. There are soul guards, soul generals, soul marshals, soul lords, soul emperors, and soul sages. There are two million, nine hundred and fifty thousand soul guards, forty-nine thousand and eight hundred soul generals, one hundred soul marshals, eighty soul lords, eighteen soul emperors, and two soul sages.”

Jonathan and the others were astonished upon hearing that. “What are you?” Jonathan asked.

“I'm a soul emperor!” Darion replied.

The trio exchanged glances. We're rather unfortunate to encounter a soul emperor so quickly.

However, Jonathan heaved a sigh of relief. It's a relief Darion is a soul emperor. If he were only a soul marshal, then the strength of the Eonetara Gate would truly be terrifying! Jonathan asked, “Who's in charge of Eonetara Gate?” Darion answered, “Thanatos.” Jonathan was stunned. Thanatos really exists! “Then, following Thanatos, are the soul sages the ones with the most authority?” Darion responded, “No, that would be the Ten Kings of Eonetara Gate.” Finding this odd, Jonathan remarked, “Thanatos and the

Ten Kings of Eonetara Gate genuinely exist. It might appear that folklore is not so implausible, after all.” Darion replied, “There's always a grain of truth in legends and folklore. However, the truth becomes increasingly distorted as people spread them.” “There's something | would like to ask you. Please answer honestly,” Jonathan stated.

Having accepted his fate, Darion replied solemnly, “Go ahead.” Jonathan asked, “Do you know of Infant King?" “No,” Darion replied with a shake of his head.

Jonathan's head ached. “Do you really not know?” A strange expression crept over Darion's face as he questioned, “Is he very famous? Must | know about him?” Jonathan replied, “Infant King originates from a baby ghost and has immense dark energy. As a soul emperor, aren't you responsible for catching him?”

“We have one million and five hundred thousand ghost buses patrolling the entire country every night.

The ghost buses are only in charge of catching lost and wandering ghosts. As for negative energy objects with cultivation, we won't care about them if they don't appear in our range. They are equivalent to the overworld's trash.

The rubbish truck won't go looking for trash on purpose.

They will only go to the designated places to collect the trash and maintain overall cleanliness. It's impossible to clear all the trash, and that's the same for us. We are unable to eliminate all the negative energy objects in the overworld,” Darion explained.

Jonathan had to admit that his words made sense.

“Then do you have any special means that could assist me in locating Infant King's subordinates? He has hidden his remaining primordial spirit in my friend's Forehead Acupoint. We have to find his subordinates,” he said.

Darion shook his head. “It's impossible to find them. If his subordinates are in Eonetara Gate, we can use our network to look for them. However, we don't have that in

the overworld, so we don't even have the means to look for them.” He was undoubtedly telling the truth because of his serious and earnest demeanor.

Jonathan, Mabel and Beatrix knew he was not lying.

Their hearts sank. It seemed as if they had no clues to even begin! However, the most urgent matter now was not finding Infant King's subordinates. They had to figure out what to do with Darion.

“If 1 kill Darion, will the people from Eonetara Gate find out?” Jonathan asked Beatrix.

Fear flitted across Darion's eyes, and he swiftly responded, “Of course, they will find out. There are records here in the Eonetara Gate, and the Ten Kings of Eonetara Gate are very powerful. They will be able to trace your scent by using the aura at the place of the incident.” “Are they that amazing?” Jonathan questioned in disbelief.

Beatrix replied, “It's very likely he's speaking the truth. We can't kill him.” Jonathan pursed his lips and said, “We have a dilemma. If we kill him, we might get killed in return. If we don't kill him and let him go, he will send people to kill us after he returns.” He paused momentarily and glanced at Darion. “If you were in our shoes, what would you do?” Gritting his teeth, Darion answered, “I swear I'll not cause trouble for you if you guys let me go.” Jonathan did not care for that. “There's no substance in your promises. I'm not that stupid to believe in you.” He paused and added, “Oh, right. There's something I'm curious about. We met a bunch of people who claimed to be from Eonetara Gate. They are...” Then, he explained Otto's death and how some old men in black robes had tried to trap him in Void Domain.

“How are they related to you guys?” Jonathan asked.

Darion replied, “I have a rough idea of this incident you mentioned. They are indeed from Eonetara Gate and

should be Wrath King's subordinates. He supports the idea of the underworld ruling the overworld. As he wants to rule the whole world, he has been getting his subordinates to execute this plan.” Jonathan touched his nose and asked, “Does that mean I'm in danger?” “I don't think so. What the Wrath King is doing is going against Thanatos' wishes. Since he's doing this in secret, | don't think he'll try anything in broad daylight.” Jonathan exchanged glances with Mabel, and they both let out sighs of relief.

They were relieved not because the Wrath King did not dare to exact revenge but because Thanatos did not support this.

Jonathan could not help but ask, “Then, what about the other Kings of Eonetara Gate? Do they support or object to the Wrath King's ideal?”

Darion replied, “I don't know the exact details, but Wrath King has the most influence among the Ten Kings of Eonetara Gate, second only to Thanatos. Thanatos has always secluded himself away and doesn't bother with worldly affairs. Therefore, the situation is quite complicated.

However, Wrath King is afraid of Thanatos, so he dares not be too bold in his actions.” Beatrix chimed in, “There's only half an hour left. Let's discuss the most urgent matter now.” She changed the subject to the most crucial and urgent matter at hand.

Jonathan said, “How we handle this all depends on your sincerity, Darion. We only wanted to ask you about Infant King today, but you wanted to fight us when you saw us. It was not our intention for things to end up like this.” Darion was full of regret at how he had acted too hastily.

Unfortunately, this was due to him being bad- tempered and rarely interacting with mortals.

After a long moment, he said, “If you guys don't believe me,

you can insert vitality containing some mana into my Forehead Acupoint. If | come to exact revenge on you guys, you can kill me from anywhere, even thousands of miles away.” Beatrix's eyes lit up. “That's a great idea.” Jonathan was not capable of doing it, so only Beatrix could insert her vitality with mana into Darion.

“Beatrix, he can't absorb your vitality, right?” Jonathan asked.

Beatrix answered, “No one can absorb vitality which has been inserted into the Forehead Acupoint unless he has reached the Immortal Stage. It's the same thing with Mabel too. She can't absorb it. Instead, she must attain enough dark energy to reach the same level as Infant King's primordial spirit.” She paused momentarily before adding, “Also, Infant King is unconscious now, whereas I'm conscious.” Seeing how confident Beatrix was, Jonathan did not say anything more.

Then, Beatrix inserted her vitality into Darion's Forehead Acupoint.

After that, they let Darion go.

Upon hearing that, he immediately left without looking back and quickly vanished into the night.

Jonathan and the others had gotten much information and learned more about Eonetara Gate.

However, they still had no clue where Infant King's subordinates were.

“Let's head back. We can talk after we're back,” Mabel said calmly.

Jonathan and Beatrix nodded.

Even though they had all had an unnerving and stimulating night, at least they managed to come out of things unscathed.

‘With that, Jonathan drove back to Yaleview.

It was four in the morning when they reached Mabel's home. Beatrix and Mabel went to shower, and afterward,

they went back to their rooms to sleep.

Jonathan was the last to shower. After that, he lay on the couch in the living room.

Although he had a tiring day, he could not fall asleep.

He did not spare much thought on the matter with Eonetara Gate. Instead, he was thinking about Mabel. Although Mabel appeared to be nonchalant and unperturbed, Jonathan knew that it was a matter of life and death for her.

She would die if they made even the slightest careless mistake.

He could not stand something bad happening to her.

But, what's the next step? Jonathan did not know what to do.

Do | continue following the baby ghost? However, it doesn't ‘seem the baby ghost has anything to do with Infant King's subordinates.

“Oh, right!” Jonathan suddenly thought of something.

Infant King's subordinates are all negative energy objects.

If these negative energy objects gather together in one place, the negative energy there would be immense.

Since Infant King appeared in Yaleview, that means its subordinates should be near there.

In that case, I'll just have to get Jeff to search around YYaleview and investigate those places with high levels of negative energy.
