Chapter 949: Fools Only Make Excuses Alina shot Tina a glance before stepping out to check on Ruud. Tina understood why Ruud had done this-it was for her. He had personally severed this family bond, leaving the rest to her.
Tina stepped forward, crouched on the ground, and twirled a few silver needles in her hand. "Uncle Boris," she said coldly, "I'm not my father. I have neither affection for you nor patience. I suggest you stop wasting my time." "Where is Claudia?" Boris's eyelids twitched, but his expression remained stoic. "What Claudia? I have no idea what you're talking about." Tina flicked her wrist. In an instant, two silver needles pierced his acupoints, sending a wave of unbearable pain through Boris. His face turned pale.
Her voice grew colder. "You've done so much for her. You even risked it all to find the Jade Armour for her, and now you're tellingyou don't know who she is? Uncle Boris, do you takefor a three-year-old?" Boris's face drained of color, and his eyes flickered briefly at the mention of the Jade Armour, but he clamped his mouth shut. Tina played a recording for him. It was a conversation between him and Claudia, where she instructed him to search for the Jade Armour. Though the voice on the other end had been altered, rendering it untraceable, Boris couldn't possibly fail to recognize his own voice.
"You were listening in on me?" Boris finally realized where he had slipped up.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtTina calmly retrieved her phone. "Uncle Boris, self-awareness is a virtue. You reached into Grandpa's affairs. If I didn't step in, it'd be unforgivable." Boris knew he was no match for Tina. He turned his head away, refusing to speak. "Since the Jade Armour is in your hands, I have nothing more to say." Tina narrowed her eyes but offered no explanation nor denial.
She interrogated him further. "Was it Claudia who told you the Jade Armour was with the Pace family? Where is she?" Boris refused to answer, shutting his eyes and pretending ignorance.
Unfortunately for him, he underestimated Tina's methods. She forced him to swallow a pill, and within moments, blood began pouring from the corners of his mouth.
Terrified that he was about to die, Boris's legs gave out beneath him. Panicking, he blurted, "I'll talk! I'll talk!" Tina rolled her eyes and motioned for the drug's effects to be paused, not even bothering to hand him the antidote. She didn't want to deal with him a second time.
Once the trembling in Boris's body subsided, he stammered, "I've never met the Claudia you're talking about. All I know is her name. We've only ever spoken over the phone, and she always initiates contact. I can't find her." "She toldto look for the Jade Armour," he added.
"What did she promise you?" Tina frowned, then added with a sneer, "Other than helping you take over the Pace family." Only someone like Boris would believe such an empty promise.
A man incapable of accomplishing anything-how could he possibly take over the Pace family? The family wasn't full of fools who would hand their legacy to a failure.
Claudia's influence spanned across the four major families, yet Tina couldn't fathom how so many people could fall for lies spun from thin air.
Boris's eyes flickered, and he swallowed hard, as though a secret buried deep inside him had just been exposed. It was humiliating. He couldn't even protect the woman he loved. "She said she'd helprescue Rachel!" "Rachel?" Tina's brow furrowed.
Boris's throat moved, his eyes filling with hatred. "Yes. Don't think I don't know. Rachel was imprisoned by your Brookes family. She must be suffering terribly right now!" "She was so proud, but you destroyed her. You're the ones who deserve to die!" Tina suddenly understood. A cold smile curled at the corners of her lips. "She's alive, yes, but letmake it clear-her remaining days will be worse than death." "She's a lunatic now. A lunatic who can only wait to die in the darkness. A filthy, reeking lunatic." Boris froze, his bloodshot eyes staring blankly. He couldn't muster a single word.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmTina's icy voice cut through his daze. "Don't worry. She'll never see the light again. She's destined to die in the dark." In the main hall, Warren sat in the head seat, all traces of his earlier joy long gone. His hands rested over his black cane, his head lowered, concealing his emotions.
It wasn't until Boris was dragged in and thrown to the ground that Warren's aged eyes showed a flicker of reaction.
Ruud glared at Boris lying on the floor. "Speak for yourself. Tell Dad what shameful things you've done!" As soon as Boris regained control over his body, he crawled to Warren's feet on his knees. "Dad, please save me! They're going to kill me!"
Warren slowly raised his head, his expression complicated as he gazed at his son. His voice was deep and heavy. "You said your brother want to kill you. Then tellwhy does he want to kill you?" Boris froze, his face stiffening. Shaking his head, he pleaded, "No, Dad, you can't abandon me. I'm your son! Over the years, I've been the one by your side-" "Have you forgotten? In the years my brother was gone, I was the one keeping you company every day and celebrating every birthday with you. It was me!" Ruud's anger flared at those words. Pointing at Boris, he shouted, "Boris, are you even a man? Taking care of Dad is your responsibility as a son, and yet you have the audacity to use it to blackmail him?" "And you, Ruud!" Boris countered. "What right do you have to lecture me? You disappeared for over ten years, only to return as General Praevion. But what have you done for Dad?" "Which tdid he fall ill and find you by his side?"
Ruud's brows furrowed deeply, and his clenched fists slowly loosened. His life had been dedicated to his country and his organization, but he had completely neglected his family. He owed too much-to his family, to Alina, and to his daughter. Alina gripped his hand tightly, her gaze toward Boris icy and sharp. If it weren't for Warren's presence, she wouldn't have tolerated another word from Boris. Boris caught her look and smirked.
"You see, Brother? All these years, you and everyone else have flaunted your abilities, flying around the world for national affairs and top-secret missions. As if the country couldn't function without you. But when did any of you ever think about this family?" "Enough!" Warren's cane struck the floor with a heavy thud. His cold gaze fell on his son, who still showed no remorse even at this moment.
"Yes, for the past ten years, you were the only son by my side. So I tolerated you again and again. Even though you've accomplished nothing, I never blamed you. But now, you've harbored murderous intent toward me-" Warren's voice trembled briefly, his pain barely concealed. He tapped his cane against the floor. "Even so, I still shielded you in front of Ruud! But you've crossed the line again and again. You're insatiable!"
