Chapter 196 She’s a Special One

Paulo’s words revealed to Erin and Roman that he had a younger sister who had passed away at a

young age.

“I’m sorry.” Erin looked apologetic and regretful.

Roman’s eyes flickered, feeling a tinge of sadness upon hearing about Paulo’s unfortunate experience

of losing a loved one. He said. “I’m sorry for your loss.”

Paulo looked at them, smiling nonchalantly. “It’s alright. It’s been many years.”

To help Paulo quickly snap out of his painful memories, Erin pretended to be eager to swipe to the next

photo on his phone. However, Paulo gently blocked her hand which was about to reach for his phone.

He raised an eyebrow and said, “Don’t touch my phone recklessly. You might stumble upon my private

photos that might be too hot for your eyes.”

Erin instantly withdrew her hand smilingly. “I can imagine how hot it could be… I mean, seeing two men

together…”

Paulo suddenly became agitated. “What do you mean? Are you insinuating that I’m gay?”

Roman casually remarked. “It seems more like she’s blatantly saying that you’re-”

“Hey! Are you two asking for trouble? How dare you offend your main attending doctor? I’ll make the

nurse give you fake medicine and make you both turn into idiots.” Paulo was clearly infuriated, his face

alternating between different shades of red.

Erin was rather surprised. “Look at his reaction. What do you think, Roman? Is he or is he not gay?”

Roman looked at her, fully understanding her question.

Paulo’s sexual preference was a mystery to everyone. Just five days ago, Erin borrowed a bottle of

bright red nail polish from Paulo’s secretary, Jenny, one evening. She felt like painting her toenails on a

whim. Jenny was excited and happy to see that Erin had developed a

normal interest in beauty, considering it a significant change.

In her excitement, Jenny sat on the sofa and volunteered to paint Erin’s nails. Erin soon found that it

wasn’t easy for her to paint her toenails in her current condition, so she didn’t refuse Jenny’s kind offer.

Then, the two women started chatting about various topics, and

in her excitement, Jenny revealed some of her boss‘ secrets.

She said that whether it was beautiful women or handsome men, Paulo showed no interest in any of

them. Despite being thirty years old,

he was still a virgin!

Jenny didn’t go to college. She started working as an intern secretary for Paulo through a friend’s

recommendation after graduating from

high school. It had been ten years since then.

During these ten years, Jenny had never seen Paulo being intimate with any woman or man. As time

went on, even she began to suspect

that there was something wrong with her boss.

Later, Erin told Roman about this, and they made a bet in private with a wager of one hundred dollars.

Erin bet that Paulo was a closeted gay man who hadn’t yet discovered his homosexuality. Meanwhile,

Roman went one step further. He guessed that Paulo was asexual and

not interested in either men or women.

Paulo looked at the two people in front of him, irritated that they were so curious about his sexuality. He

stood angrily and complained,” You two are insufferable! I haven’t even had my meal! Erin, you

heartless woman! I won’t show you the photos anymore! And don’t even

think about finding out who Holly’s fiancé is!”

Hearing his defensive and indignant tone, Erin quickly backed down, clasping her hands pleadingly.

“Okay, I’m sorry. I was in the wrong. Please don’t hold it against it. I just had too much time on my

hands. Considering how I’ve been disfigured, have mercy on me! Please tell

me who Holly’s fiancé is. Pretty please?”

The last they heard about Holly was that she was still single, and now she suddenly had a fiancé.

Paulo looked at Erin’s enchanting and captivating eyes and found himself momentarily bewitched by

them. He couldn’t bear to imagine how great of a loss it would be if her eyes were damaged in the fire.

As time went by, he would think back to how devastating it would have been if he hadn’t arrived on the

uninhabited island in time. Erin might have truly died in that cold and dilapidated operating room.

Sometimes he would even have nightmares of Erin dying on that deserted island, and there was

nothing he could do about it.

increasingly important to him. Paulo attributed this psychological state to mental stress caused by

wanting to cure her so badly.

“Paulo?” Erin spoke up.

Her question brought Paulo back to his senses. He sounded displeased, but his eyes were filled with

praise as he commended, “I’m impressed at your current mental state. You can even make jokes about

your disfigurement. This kind of transformation is truly unexpected for me, but I’m genuinely glad that

you’ve become the way you are now. Even if you haven’t fully recovered your beautiful face. I’ve

started to like you a bit-”

His words alarmed Roman. Despite his tone carrying a hint of dissatisfaction, it didn’t sound like a joke

to Roman no matter how he deciphered it. Roman’s intuition told him that he might have lost the bet he

made with Erin in private.

However, Erin didn’t win either.

Paulo’s words just now clearly caught Erin off guard too. She then burst into laughter without warning,

looking at Roman with a hint of mockery in her laughter. “Roman, look at him talking nonsense so

seriously, it’s hilarious! He actually said he’s starting to like me. Judging from the current situation. I

think he’s the one who took the fake medicine and became an idiot.”

Faced with her utter dismissal of such a possibility, Paulo felt embarrassed. Irritated, he said, “Stop

laughing! What’s so funny? Do you want that update on your friend or not?”

“Damn it! Why am I all emotional today?” Paulo wondered exasperatedly.

He felt a bit annoyed for no reason. The more familiar he became with Erin, the more he realized that

she had a tendency to be unruly. It seemed that her true nature was that she was a mischievous imp!

“Of course, I want to know, please go ahead.” Erin immediately covered her mouth and stopped

laughing. On top of that, she sat upright like an obedient kid.

Seeing that she could now laugh heartily, which was a far cry from her almost lifeless state two weeks

ago, Paulo instinctively glanced at the quiet Roman beside him and noticed that he was gazing at Erin

affectionately.

Paulo’s heart skipped a beat at this observation. This was incredible! This disfigured woman had

effortlessly captured the undivided attention of two men at the same time. He couldn’t help but think

that Erin was a really special woman. Paulo found it unbelievable that the woman before him had

somehow retained her unique charm despite losing her good looks.

It seemed that a person’s soul and not their appearance held their personal charm.

By the time Roman turned to look at him, Paulo had already snapped out of his thoughts. He sat back

down and used his phone to switch the photos with a swipe and a tap. The image projected on the

white wall had completely changed.

It showed a photo of Holly and Simon wearing mountaineering gear. Holly had a happy smile on her

face; it was radiant like a fully bloomed rose. On the other hand, Simon had a cold and brooding

expression. Although his expression didn’t show any signs of a smile. the way Holly held his arm

indicated that their relationship was far from ordinary.

“This is great! It seems that Holly’s initial crush on him has borne fruil! I hope Simon can genuinely treat

her well- While Erin expressed her blessings, she was secretly concerned in reality. As an onlooker,

she saw no trace of love or even slight affection in Simon’s eyes when he looked at Holly.

She wondered if they were truly happy in their relationship.

In contrast to Erin’s kind words, Roman commented bluntly without beating around the bush, “Erin,

forgive me if I sound harsh, but I think your friend fell for the wrong guy. He’s bound to hurt her

someday.”
