Chapter 1820
Trevor clenched his fists, veins bulging on the back of his hand, but he did not get angry. He simply reached out and
gave her a stack of cash, "Who did you give the child to?"
Under Trevor's cold gaze, Venice's voice trembled.
"After we handed the dead infant to the family of the woman in labor, Dillon left. I was afraid that the family would
discover the matter, so I followed her to ask when she would give me the money. What if it was discovered? I
needed to discuss what to do when that happens with her.
"She went to the rooftop alone, and I saw her talking to a man. I wanted to call out to her, but that man asked
Dillon if the baby had died. I was startled and hid.
"Dillon said the child was dead before being born and then asked him when he would pay up. That's when I found

She shuddered as her hands trembled, seemingly still haunted by the past. She took a few sips of water before
continuing, "After Dillon gave me the money, she took the baby girl away. I didn't know where she took her. I was
afraid to spend the money and lived in constant fear at work. One day, Dillon suddenly came up to me and the
other two medical staff who were in the delivery room that day. As someone was investigating the matter, she told
us to leave Rivera; the farther, the better.
"We were terrified, and we resigned from the hospital one after another. Both Dillon and I were born in Rivera. We
didn't dare to go home because we didn't want to get our families involved. She suggested I go abroad, so I took
the one million dollars she gave me and came to Mystonia."
However, life abroad was not as good as she thought.
She had a tourist visa, so she could not stay there too long. However, she was afraid to go home because of the
legal consequences. So, she married a Mystonian to obtain permanent residency.
She thought of it as a fake marriage and planned to divorce after getting the green card.
It was agreed before marriage, but she did not know the man had ulterior motives.
It was easy to get married, but divorcing was not that simple.
The man did not keep his promise. He lazed around all day and engaged in illicit activities.
She was in a hurry to find someone to marry, so she did not see through his disguise, thinking he had a job and a
good reputation.
After getting married to him, he revealed his true colors. Not only did he refuse to divorce, but he also abused her.
To avoid beatings, she had to give him money continuously.
Within two years, the man squandered her savings. As she was then broke and desperate, the abuse intensified.
She was also pregnant at the time and could not return to her home country, so she could only endure the pain

over time.
When that man finally died, her son fell into drug addiction. Everything in her house was sold to buy drugs. If it were
not because she had no other options, she would bring her dark past to the grave with her.
Looking back now, it all seemed like karma. If she had not been greedy for that one million dollars, would her life
have turned out like this?
Venice wiped the tears on her face. She was not even fifty years old, but her hair was already graying, and there
were wrinkles all over her face. Trevor had to exert great selfcontrol to avoid laying hands on a woman of such age.
He pursed his lips and asked, "Are you sure the person talking to Dillon Brook was a man? Do you remember what
he looked like?"
Venice shook her head, "It's been too long, and I can't remember clearly. He should have looked pretty ordinary,
nothing memorable."
"What about Dillon Brook? Did you have any contact with her after that?"
She shook her head again, "After we went abroad, we went our separate ways. We agreed to never contact each
other again in this lifetime, so I don't know where she went."
Trevor pushed the remaining money toward her, "One last question: was the tragedy accidental or intentional?"
