Chapter 2124 Wren was not expecting to see Stella here at all as she hastily wiped away the tears on her face and called out in a hoarse voice, "Hello, Ms. Hall." She was only a few years older than Sonia. She was a young lady with an oval-shaped face, looking very youthful. However, her skin seemed somewhat pale, giving her a fragile appearance that reminded Stella of Colin Craven. That left a deep impression on Stella.
Stella handed her a tissue and said gently, "Here, wipe your tears." Wren took it and thanked her.
Stella was not a nosy person, but when she cin earlier, she overheard Wren on the phone with the hospital mentioning payment and surgery.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIt reminded her of the helplessness she felt when she could not afford to pay for Rainee's treatment in the hospital to keep her alive. So, she could not help but ask, "Are you facing any difficulties back home?" Wren had already stopped crying by then, but as soon as Stella asked that question, tears welled up in her eyes again. Wren fought them back, shook her head, and said, "Ms. Hall, everything's fine. Thank you for asking. I'll get back to work now.” She then left in a hurry after saying that.
As soon as Wren left, the sound of flushing cfrom another cubicle, and the door opened. Kiara Lark, the leader of team B in the perfblending department, poked her head out and said, "Ms. Hall, no matter how much you ask, she won't tell you about it because it's related to you." Stella was taken aback. "Related to me? What do you mean?" Kiara was not one to gossip, but Wren was probably one [x i most helpful people from the finance department.
When everyone went to reimburse work expenses, others would always make excuses and delay their payments.
One would even have to treat the employee from the finance department to a meal if they wanted to get reimbursed as soon as possible. Otherwise, the whole process could take up to six months.
However, nobody dared to offend anyone from the finance department, so most people could only play by their rules.
But Wren was different from those seasoned employees in the department as she would not give anyone a hard time. Generally, when anyone went to her for reimbursement within the company's approved scope, she would process them promptly and efficiently.
So, Kiara figured that she should step up for Wren after she got targeted this time. However, she was not in a position to make waves, fearing that she might offend someone and get herself into trouble.
When she heard Stella's conversation with Wren in the restroom, she hesitated but decided to tell Stella the whole story anyway.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIt turned out that a few days ago, when the salaries were paid, Wren only received her basic salary; almost all her bonuses were deducted. She did not cfrom a well-off family, and she lived with her grandmother, who suffered from uremia and needed regular dialysis, which could be very expensive.
Most of her monthly salary would go toward that, leaving a small amount to cover their daily expenses.
Her bonuses made up a big part of her monthly salary. Now that they have been deducted, the remaining money would not be enough to cover the next dialysis session.
After all, hospitals were built to make profits. Without money, Wren's grandmother would not be treated. That was what made her cry.
Stella asked, "Why were all her bonuses deducted? What mistake did she make?" "It's said that there was an accounting error in a business transaction, which caused a significant loss to the company, so she was penalized for it. Also, not only were her bonuses for this month deducted but also for the entire quarter. How could she possibly accept this?" said Kiara.
She then glanced toward the door and lowered her voice as she continued, "Actually, it's not as serious as they claim. They just wanted to use her as a warning to others. After all, she received something from you." Stella finally realized that everything stemmed from the dress she gave to Wren. She could not believe how petty Jaylene could be.
"Actually, Wren is a very thrifty person. Her clothes were all very cheap, and | guess she probably only took your dress because she was planning to rent or sell it. She needs the money for her grandmother's treatment. Who would've thought she would lose her bonuses for a quarter for doing that?"
