“Tell me, whose child are you f*cking carrying?” Chadwick snarled.

The young girl, Jolene Moss, pushed Chadwick away defiantly, acting insolently. “Who are you? Why should you care

whose child I’m carrying?”

“Mr. Pendleton! Mr. Pendleton, let’s talk calmly,” a doctor who clearly knew them both gently advised Chadwick.

Chadwick grabbed Jolene’s chin, his bloodshot eyes filled with blazing anger. “Tell me, or else!”

The unyielding Jolene retorted, “What’s so great about grabbing my face? Choke me if you can! I don’t want to live

anyway! I don’t want to live anymore! Come on, do it, strangle me if you dare!”

Esther was bewildered by the unfolding situation before her.

Chadwick couldn’t help but chuckle before he impulsively slapped Jolene. Her face swelled instantly, and she shot

“What’s it to you?” she barked, her tone heavy with envy. “I’m willing to abandon everything. I’m not worth much! I

Upon hearing her words, Chadwick slapped her again and demanded, “Speak up! Who’s responsible for your

pregnancy?”

Jolene scoffed and replied, “I don’t know! I have no idea who it is!”

Chadwick clenched his teeth and hissed. “Fine then.”

“Since you’re getting married anyway, why should you care if I live or die? It’s none of your business!”

With that, Jolene walked away.

Chadwick violently grabbed her hair, his teeth gritted, and ordered her, “Abort it!”

“I won’t!” Jolene screamed defiantly. “I’m going to keep it!”

Chadwick slapped her once more, asking menacingly, “Keep it? How will you raise that child? I provide everything

for you—food, clothing, shelter. How will you support your child?”

Jolene replied, “I can work as a waitress, wait tables. If all else fails, I can resort to other means…”

Chadwick grabbed her arm and pushed her toward the doctor. “Proceed with the operation.”

Jolene fought back, punching and kicking. “How dare you! Pendleton, if you dare to abort my child, I’ll hate you for

life!”

“Perform the operation right now!” Chadwick ordered coldly.

Esther had remained invisible during this confrontation, yet she suddenly stepped between Chadwick and Jolene.

She looked at Chadwick, hesitated briefly, and then asked, “Mr. Pendleton, could you give me some time? I’d like to

talk to this young lady.”

“Get out of here! I don’t want to talk to you!” Jolene said.

Chadwick raised his hand again threateningly. “This is my fiancée. Show some respect!”

“Then hit me! Go ahead, hit me! Beat me to death!” Jolene’s eyes welled up with tears, her voice quivering.

“Let’s talk,” Esther said calmly. She pulled Jolene out of the emergency room, guided her to a nearby cafe, and

ordered two glasses of milk.

Jolene was still resentful as she declared, “I’m not a three-year-old. I don’t drink milk. I drink coffee!”

“You’re pregnant now. You can’t have coffee,” Esther said gently, her eyes fixed on the pretty girl before her.

Despite her punk makeup, Jolene’s features were undeniably beautiful. “I’m Esther Quill. What should I call you?”

“What? You’re not even married yet, and you’re acting like you’re already Mrs. Pendleton?” Jolene taunted.

Esther didn’t let the taunt bother her and asked calmly, “Is Mr. Pendleton the father of your child?”
