Jasper shot up from his chair, startled by Esther’s words. He paced in front of her before saying, “Esther, I doubt

Bradley would go to such lengths.”

“You don’t believe he would do something like this?” Esther shivered. She didn’t want to suspect Bradley, but the

evidence pointed in that direction.

Jasper took a deep breath and reassured her, “Clark has been with the Warners for years, and Bradley treated him

well. It’s impossible for Bradley to harm Clark. Don’t jump to conclusions. I believe Bradley wouldn’t do this.”

Jasper’s defense of Bradley only intensified Esther’s fear. She had a sinking feeling that Bradley might indeed be

behind this.

It could be Bradley’s way of getting back at Clark for refusing to lie on his behalf or a warning to Esther not to

consider escape.

He loomed before her like an insurmountable mountain.

“Esther, don’t worry. We’re here for you.”

Hearing Jasper’s comforting words, Esther decided not to share her suspicions about Bradley with him. She couldn’t

risk making Jasper an enemy in Bradley’s eyes because of her.

“Okay.”

Esther sat in silence while Jasper remained by her side without uttering a word.

Kevin bought some coffee and handed it to Esther and Jasper. He said softly, “Dr. Foster is performing Clark’s

surgery. Everything should be fine. No need to worry.”

Esther took a sip of coffee, the bitterness lingering in her mouth. They all waited quietly outside the operating room.

None of them could have foreseen that, not long ago, it was Esther inside, and now it was Clark.

Clark’s family was overseas, but Kevin had informed them to return.

“Esther, even if Clark recovers, I don’t think his family would want him to stay in the country.”

Kevin understood that Clark was a deeply grateful person. He had stayed with the Warners for years, serving as a

butler to repay Thomas’ kindness.

“I understand.”

Thomas and Clark had always been there for her, even when Bradley had sent her to prison. Clark had never held

any resentment or hatred toward her.

Clark was at an age where he could live comfortably anywhere and enjoy time with his family. Esther hoped he

could let go of everything here and reunite with his loved ones as long as he was safe.

“Kevin! How’s Clark?!” Bradley barked.

When Bradley’s footsteps echoed in the corridor, Esther couldn’t help but shiver. She looked at Bradley as he

approached. Backlight partly obscured his face, and she tried to discern what he was hiding.

“Bradley, Clark is in surgery,” Kevin replied.

Bradley nodded.

He walked up to Esther, his condescending gaze fixed on her. His sinister eyes took in the blood-stained Esther, and

uncontrollable rage filled his heart. He almost reached out to touch her as if confirming that she was truly alive.

An overwhelming sense of dread enveloped Esther, and she felt as if she couldn’t even breathe in Bradley’s

presence. She clutched the coffee cup with trembling fingers, her fingertips turning pale.
