Chapter 1054 Individuals With Sick Family Members

Lu Jingyuan was informed to return to the company as there were some tasks she had to hand over. Although she

did not want to go back, she agreed out of her sense of professionalism.

Upon entering the meeting room, she was surprised to see it filled with dozens of people.

At the front of the room was Nan Xing. The others included Jiang Zhe, the company's human resources department

director, and many other senior executives.

She could not help feeling puzzled. Do I really need to hand over my work to so many people?

Jiang Zhe stood up and flashed a polite smile. “Ms. Lu, you're here. Please have a seat.”

Lu Jingyuan ignored him. That had always been how she was. No matter how high one's position was, she would not

suck up to them. And now that she had resigned, she was even more indifferent.

Nan Xing glanced at Jiang Zhe, who left his seat and bowed deeply to her. “Ms. Lu, I apologize for the inconvenience

caused by my negligence at work.”

She frowned. What's going on? Does he have something to do with me getting fired?

The director of the human resources department also did the same and bowed to her, followed by the deputy

director, head of the board of directors, board secretary, and others involved in her dismissal.

She watched them emotionlessly, her gaze icy cold. This scene reminds me of a wake at a funeral home. What's

different is that I'm still alive. I'm not a corpse or a memorial photo, but a living, breathing person.

After each person had taken turns to bow, they fixed their gazes on her.

“Are you done?” she asked.

They looked at each other in disbelief, wondering if they had to bow three times.

“We're done,” Jiang Zhe replied honestly.

She promptly turned around and walked away, leaving the others stunned. She's leaving just like that? Isn't she

going to say something?

Nan Xing quickly stopped her. “Don't go! We all know we made a mistake, so please don't leave, okay?”

“Whether you made a mistake or not, what does that have to do with me?” came her reply.

That left him at a loss for words. After a brief pause, he finally organized his thoughts. “Our mistake caused you to

become upset and decide to leave, so how can that be okay?”

“I'm not leaving because I'm upset. They're the ones who forced me to resign,” she clarified.

“Yes, that's exactly where they went wrong. But now, they've realized their mistake. Give them a chance. Don't

leave,” said Nan Xing.

“What does whether or not they recognize the error of their ways have anything to do with me staying or leaving?

So, if they ask me to leave, I should just go? And if they realize they were wrong, I should stay?” she retorted.

Once again, Nan Xing was left speechless by her rebuke. He looked at Jiang Zhe. This mess is your doing! If you

can't fix it, you can leave too!

Jiang Zhe was a sly man. He knew from the start that a mere apology would not cut it. Lu Jingyuan has a calm

demeanor and a mind of her own. Other people's actions hardly affect her. Most importantly, it seems like it doesn't

matter to her whether or not she works, so she won't let herself suffer any grievances because of this job. That's

where her confidence comes from.

“Ms. Lu, if you're unwilling to forgive us, then the others and I will also resign as an apology,” he said.

Nan Xing quickly piped up, “See! Look at how sincere they are! If you insist on leaving the company, they'll all have

to leave, too!”

Nonetheless, she remained indifferent. “What has that got to do with me?”

Everyone was dumbfounded. If Lu Jingyuan left the company, they would have to face Nan Xing's wrath. He had

made it clear they could all go with her if they failed to convince her to stay, and they knew it was not a joke. He

was definitely capable of doing so.

Even if they did not resign, their lives at the company would be incredibly difficult in the future. Her decision did not

only affect herself but also the entire group in the meeting room. Hence, all of them agreed they could not allow

her to leave.

They swiftly blocked the meeting room door, not letting Lu Jingyuan leave.

“Ms. Lu, my mother suffers from a leg ailment. I must keep my job. Otherwise, how will I afford her treatment? For

the sake of my poor mother, please stay!”

“My wife just had a baby, Ms. Lu. If I lose my job, I won't be able to afford baby formula and diapers! I'm begging

you not to go for the sake of my daughter, who isn't even one month old yet!”

“Ms. Lu, my father was diagnosed with dementia just last month and was recently admitted to the hospital...”

“Ms. Lu, my grandmother...”

“My maternal grandfather...”

She was utterly stunned. They were the company's senior executives. Suddenly, however, they were also

individuals with sick family members. Each of them had encountered challenges and was having a hard time. It

seemed as though their entire world would crumble into ruins once she left, and the burden of the blame was too

much for her to bear!

“Look at them. They're so pitiful. You can't leave!” Nan Xing pleaded.

“What's that to me?” she responded, snorting coldly. Then, she pulled out her phone. “If you don't step aside, I'm

calling the police!”

Now, it was everyone else's turn to be stunned. Ms. Lu has a heart of stone indeed. Despite our situation, she

remains unmoved! Are all beautiful women so cold-hearted?

“Ms. Lu, do you really not care about our fate?” someone wailed.

Taking no notice, she said, “Look, I'm going to call the police to report that there are people harassing me—”

Nan Xing hurriedly grabbed the phone and ended the call. “Don't call the police. We won't harass you.”

The others had no choice but to step aside, and Lu Jingyuan brushed past them with her head held high.

Nan Xing had thought that with the dozens of senior executives present, she would surely feel pressured and agree

to stay. Who knew she wouldn't be the least bit fazed? What should we do now?

The others turned to look at him. “Mr. Xing, we're all counting on you now. We're at our wits' end! As long as we can

persuade Ms. Lu to stay, you can dock a month's salary from each of us. Just please don't make us resign!”

He could not be bothered to reply and dashed out of the room.

By then, Lu Jingyuan had already stepped into the elevator. However, he managed to squeeze in just as the

elevator doors were about to close.

“Jingyuan, do you really have to do this? Everyone is practically on their knees begging you, yet you still refuse to

change your mind?” He was also feeling a little angry.

“What does their behavior have anything to do with me?” she asked, maintaining the same indifferent demeanor.

“What will it take for you to stay?” he asked, getting anxious.

She remained silent as she did not have the answer to that either. It was just that she suddenly felt as though she

was being taken advantage of, so she decided to leave. It doesn't matter to me where I go. However, I need

freedom, and I can't tolerate being bullied.

“All right. If you're determined to leave, then go ahead.” Nan Xing had finally made up his mind.

Lu Jingyuan remained silent. To her, he was just spouting a load of nonsense.

“I'll also submit my resignation to the board of directors tomorrow. I'll resign and leave with you,” he continued.

She did not take his words seriously. Even at this point, he's still resorting to these petty tricks. How lame can he

get?

When Nan Chen saw the resignation letter Nan Xing handed in, he, too, thought the latter was playing a fool.

“Don't you have anything better to do? You're the company's deputy CEO, for goodness' sake. Do you truly think it's

appropriate to joke around like this?”

“I'm not joking around. I really want to resign.”

“Is it because of Lu Jingyuan?”

“Yes.” Nan Xing looked upset and aggrieved, as though he had suffered a great injustice.
