Chapter 139
I got home and received a call from Stella who brought me some fresh gossip.
Bonnie was in the hospital
She wasn’t quite sure why Bonnie was admitted.
“Is Neil with her at the hospital?” I asked.
“Yup, he’s the one who took Bonnie Bitch to the hospital, Stella speculated. “Why would she be
hospitalized all of a sudden? She’s so young. Don’t tell me she’s pregnant?!”
My heart skipped a beat, feeling as if someone had discovered my secret. Neil had told me that he and
Bonnie hadn’t slept together, so Bonnie shouldn’t. be pregnant.
“I don’t know, let them be,” I replied.
Stella agreed, “Yeah, forget them You’re fabulous on your own!”
After hanging up, I felt distracted and my eyelid kept twitching. I had an uneasy feeling, but I didn’t
know why.
Tomorrow afternoon, I’d be flying to Caladonia with Harold. I hoped nothing messy would happen.
In the evening, Oscar sent me a message: [Irene, I went home for a funeral. I’ll be back in town this
afternoon. Let’s have lunch together tomorrow, okay?]
Me: Sure, stay safe]
The next noon, I met Oscar. He was still holding his luggage bag, probably hadn’t even gone back to
his place to drop it off yet.
He seemed a bit awkward at first, but slowly relaxed as we talked
We found a food court in a shopping mall Oscar gradually opened up and asked me about things

“Oscar, did you know that Bonnie also went to study in Caladonia?” I suddenly brought up the topic.
Oscar paused and then nodded, “I heard from a friend, but I don’t know the details. I barely have any
contact with her”
“Hmm, it’s Neil who paid for her,” I took a sip of water and continued, “I heard something. It wasn’t Neil
who initiated contact with Bonnie, it was the other way round. Did you know that?”
Upon hearing this, Oscar’s expression changed, and he looked a bit guilty. He remained silent.
I didn’t mean to blame him. From a certain perspective, he was a man of integrity. Even after breaking
up with his girlfriends, he never bad–mouthed
them.
Otherwise, he could have made things worse for Bonnie by revealing everything he knew to the media
during her cyberbullying period. That would’ve definitely added fuel to the fire
But Oscar didn’t do that. He wasn’t that kind of person.
“Oscar?” I casually repeated my question, “Did you hear what I just said? Do you know that Bonnie
initiated contact with Neil?”
It was then that Oscar looked at me again, his eyes conflicted.
I stared back at him, my gaze firm.
Finally, he nodded. “Yes, I know.”
Oscar had seen the messages Bonnie sent to Neil. That was why he was so upset back then. He found
out that his beloved girlfriend took the initiative to
contact a married man!
And Bonnie knew that the married man got her contact through someone else.
Bonnie had many suitors, and he always knew that. He was able to handle it.
Until Neil came along and shattered his defenses. Yet, he kept Bonnie’s secret and didn’t tell anyone
“I asked her why she initiated contact with Neil. Didn’t she know what kind of man he is?” Oscar
recalled, looking much calmer, but there was still a hint of confusion in his eyes. “She said her heart
told her that she liked him.”
I was speechless. So it wasn’t Neil who fell for Bonnie at first sight, but Bonnie who fell for Neil?
Our conversation left me completely baffled, but I was pretty sure now that Bonnie was the one who
started it all
Even if she hadn’t initiated, Neil had already got her number. He would’ve contacted her sooner or
later. But the implications were different.
It was like watching a rabbit being chased by a wolf, only to see the rabbit reveal a fox’s tail.
When it was time to say goodbye, Oscar and I stood on the street. He kept sneaking glances at me,
and I knew it.
“Irene, are you leaving for Caladonia this afternoon?” He asked.
“Mhm,” I nodded
He looked a bit reluctant and lost, but still managed a smile, “Have a safe trip.”
I returned his smile. Suddenly, he pulled me into a tight hug, quickly said, “I’ll miss you!” and then let
go.
He picked up his bag and ran towards a bus stop without looking back
I was still in shock when Oscar got on a bus. He sat by the window, looking back at me until the bus
disappeared from sight. I opened my mouth and wanted to say something, but I didn’t.
What a sweet college boy I hoped he could keep his pure and simple character once he entered
society But it would be difficult.
What I didn’t expect was that this meeting with Oscar would stir up a storm

my place before heading home with Harold
When I opened the door, I glanced across the street. Neil probably hadn’t arrived yet. Since Bonnie
was seriously ill enough to be hospitalized, he must be
with her.
I didn’t think too much about it. After a shower, I went to bed.
It wasn’t until the next day at work that I heard about Bonnie’s condition from an enraged Kate Aaron.
“Trene Finch, you’re so cruel!” Kate pointed at me, her eyes red with anger. “If anything happens to
Bonnie, you’ll go straight to hell
“What happened to her? You’re talking nonsense!” I frowned at her
“Don’t you know she has a heart condition? You purposely upset her, and now she’s in the ICU,
hanging by a thread. Aren’t you responsible for that?!” Kate accused me passionately.
Everyone exchanged glances, not knowing what to say
When did Bonnie have a heart condition? I had no idea!
“What heart condition does she have? Do tell I asked calmly.
“She…” It seemed like something dawned on Kate, but she held her tongue. After a few seconds, she
continued, “She has a congenital heart disease, it’s pretty serious. She can’t handle any stress. So, if
you keep winding her up, you’re practically a murderer!”
I kept my poker face, I had no idea she had a heart condition. I don’t have any reason to stress her out.
If you wanna blame someone, blame her.”
Kate blew her top at me, “Irene, are you even human? How can you be so cold–blooded?! Absolutely
vicious!”
I didn’t even bother to respond to her, instead, I picked up my phone and shot a text to Oscar: [Does
Bonnie have a heart condition?]
Oscar replied pretty quickly. [It’s a minor issue. She takes medication and can’t do any strenuous
exercises. She was pretty normal when we were together]
