Chapter 661

Neither Nicole nor Colton were fools. They could tell that William was hiding something when they spotted the

trepidation on his face.

Nicole slammed her palms against the table and stared at William with her piercing eyes. There was an intense

hostility exuding from her body as she barked, "Drop your act! Someone already sent the photos of your hit-and-

run to the Gardners!"

William felt like a headless chicken, but he forced himself to calm down. Of course, the most crucial element in that

so-called photo was the person in the driver's seat!

Back then, he switched seats with Madeline. As long as they saw Madeline in the driver's seat, the blame wouldn't

be on him. Plus, Madeline was dead, so they could never uncover the truth.

"No, Nicky. It's not what you think!" He swallowed nervously and blurted.

"What is it then?! You killed her. Do you think the Gardners will let you off the hook?!"

Nicole was trying to force a confession out of his mouth. He was the only one who could prove Madeline's

innocence. Unfortunately, William was a wily fox, considering how he was quick to deny those accusations by

yelling, "No, I didn't!"

He stared at Nicole and Colton in fright, knowing they would not let him go unless he explained himself. Thus, he

feigned sorrow and stammered, "Nicky, i-it's hard to explain it!"

She placed her hands on her knees, felt herself slowly clenching them, and she felt a lump in her throat. She quietly

stared him down, but her trembling fingers betrayed her nervousness.

William knew that he couldn't fool them, so he sighed, "Nicky, it wasn't me who killed her. It's your mom!"

Nicole immediately scowled, gritted her teeth, and hissed, "Impossible! It was you!"

He felt flustered when he saw that she was so confident with her words. Was the photo taken while he was behind

the wheel?

Back then, he was utterly wasted, yet he insisted on driving. As a result, he hit someone. At that moment, he

became sober due to fright. He would be sent to jail if he was guilty of driving under influence and hitting someone!

After he thought over the consequences, he tricked Madeline into changing seats with him and driving away.

She wanted to surrender herself, but he put a stop to that. He had hit one of the Gardners. If she had turned herself

in, the Gardners might find out the truth, and he would be doomed!

Later, he met the Kohlbergs through some connections and asked for their help to erase the records. They did as

he requested because of their conflict with the Gardners, so this matter had been concealed. But from the looks of

it, the case was exposed out of the blue.

The current Gardners were wealthy and powerful. If William admitted his crime now, he would definitely suffer

retribution.

"What are you talking about? Unless you have any evidence of the contrary, I'm sure that it's your mom who was in

the driver's seat. I didn't know anything back then because I was drunk. I only sobered up when I saw the bloodstain

on the car."

William donned an innocent and sorrowful expression on his face. Madeline was dead, anyway, so he could tell his

side of the story however he liked, and no one could contest his words. The dead would remain dead.

He firmly believed that the Gardners would have called the police if they found out that he was behind the wheel,

yet now, Nicole came banging at his door with Colton instead.

William even choked up as he sold his side of the story, "I asked your mom to surrender, but you were so young

back then, and she was worried about you, so she refused. Because of this incident, I've been living with guilt all

these years. I should have made her surrender herself back then!"

Nicole didn't believe a single word coming from his mouth, but all the evidence pointed out that Madeline was

indeed at fault.

Colton immediately noticed the change in her expression, so he grabbed her arm to reassure her as he interjected,

"That's enough for today. You'd better make sure that what you said is true."
