Chapter 749

Nicole felt like she was about to lose her already strained hold of her emotions. Her eyes stung with tears, but when

she saw Betty in such a state, she forced them back.

She looked away briefly and sniffled. Then, she cleared her throat and told Betty in a low voice, "It's getting late, Ms.

Betty. I have something going on at home. I'll visit you another day."

Betty waved her hands in understanding and said cheerily, "You young people are always flitting about. Go ahead.

Don't worry about me. The nurses are taking good care of me."

Nicole didn't dare to stay any longer. She was afraid she would break down in that room, right in front of Betty.

After their conversation ended, she immediately turned to flee for a safe space to finally cry.

Zachary, who was behind Nicole, hurriedly chased after her.

As soon as the door closed behind her, she couldn't hold her tears in any longer and started sobbing.

She covered her face with her hands in a desperate attempt to stop her tears from flowing. She really didn't want

to cry in public like this, but after thinking about what Betty said, her eyes brimmed with tears, and she finally let

go.

Zachary came out of the room and saw her sobbing bitterly into her palms. He immediately walked over and pulled

her into his embrace.

She had wanted comfort, so she allowed herself to cry on Zachary's shoulder.

He patted her back and consoled her gently, "It's okay, Nicky. It's all in the past."

Nicole couldn't respond as she forced down a wail. Although the tears flowed freely down her cheeks, she muffled

her cries. The words that she wanted to voice seemed to get caught in her throat, and all she could do was choke

down her sobs.

Zachary knew she was hurting, so he said nothing and continued to hold her, allowing her to cry in his arms.

Just as Colton reached the hospital, he was greeted with the image of Zachary embracing Nicole. Her back was

facing him, so she didn't notice him. Nevertheless, Zachary looked up and caught sight of Colton.

They both stared at each other, neither saying a word.

Colton's face darkened at the couple's intimate position. His hands slowly clenched into fists.

It didn't help that Zachary wholly ignored him and continued to calm Nicole.

Colton slowly walked closer to the two of them, and his glare never left the man holding Nicole in his arms. Instead,

he expended great effort to subdue his anger as he called out hoarsely, "Nicole!"

She instinctively raised her head when she heard a deep voice calling her name and saw Colton's sullen yet

handsome face.

At this moment, her eyes were red-rimmed, with tears hanging from her lashes. Her face was flushed red from

crying, making her look pitiful.

But, once she saw Colton, she realized she had an audience and tried to force her emotions to manageable levels.

She wiped her eyes and retreated from Zachary's arms before noticing the tear-stained puddle she had left on his

clothes.

She hurriedly wiped his shirt awkwardly and murmured softly, "I'm sorry."

Zachary wore a gentle smile on his face and replied gently, "Don't worry. I'll wash it when I get back."

Colton did not speak as he stared at Nicole with a gloomy expression. Then, after a moment, he reached out,

grabbed her by the wrist, and grumbled, "I have something to tell you."

She staggered toward Colton, but Zachary grabbed her other wrist as soon as she was a little closer to Colton. At

this moment, it seemed like the two men were playing tug-of-war with her as the rope.

"Nicky doesn't want to talk to you." Zachary's voice was cold, and his face was devoid of expression.

Colton looked up at Zachary with a hint of anger in his eyes as he snarked, "An outsider shouldn't come in between

our personal affairs."

"That's too bad because the outsider here is you." Zachary glared at Colton, refusing to back down.
