Chapter 793

"I-I'm fine, just that I'm anemic. Nothing much." Nicole sounded feeble.

Colton's brows knitted when he heard that, and his voice became serious. "You're anemic?"

"A little, but it's not serious." She lowered her gaze.

It happened after she gave birth to Hayden. In addition to her hectic working schedule, she usually skipped

breakfast, which took a toll on her health. Still, she was already recovering from it. The main factor of her dizziness

now was due to the excessive blood loss she experienced at once.

"You should've told me sooner about that." Colton was genuinely worried. Although anemia was nothing serious, he

was worried that it would deteriorate her health, given the amount of blood she donated.

Nicole shook her head and said with equanimity, "It's a life and death matter. I can't possibly turn a blind eye to it.

I'm fine. Don't worry, President Gardner."

Her intentional detachment prodded a smidgen of displeasure on his countenance. However, he did not say much

and tightened the grasp around her wrist to pull her to himself. The lethargic woman followed along and rested

herself against him.

"Since Madam Gould is alright, I'll leave for now," she piped up.

She initially thought the clog in Siobhan's brain would be threatening, but it did not seem serious, according to the

doctor. Hence, she figured that it was pointless for her to stay on.

Colton nodded and replied softly, "I'll take you home."

As soon as he offered to drive Nicole home, Evelyn interrupted. "Colton, can't you keep me company?" She stepped

forward, and her face was beet red from all the weeping. Her reddened eyes added more reason for one to pity

her.

His lips became a firm line before he rejected heartlessly, "Madam Gould is safe from danger, and Mr. Wrenn and

Gabriel will be here soon. You'll be fine alone."

Aggrievement was written all over her face at his callous rejection. Clenching her teeth, she clasped his wrist and

continued her pitiable plead. "My mother hasn't regained consciousness, and I'm scared, Colton. Please don't leave

me. You can leave once Dad and Gabriel are here."

There was a lump in her throat, rendering her voice sorrowful. To her dismay, his expression displayed calmness

without any sign of wavering in attitude. He withdrew his hand and spoke, "The professionals are keeping you

company. If you're still restless, I can ask my secretary to come."

Evelyn bit her lower lip and tightened her fists. As tears swarmed in her eyes, she sniffed and stared at him. "You're

my brother's best friend. You promised him to look after me too!"

His brows slightly furrowed, and his gaze turned icy as well as his voice. "Nicole is weak after donating blood to

Madam Gould. Read the room, and you'll know what shouldn't be said."

His cold counter added another layer of grievance to her as she cried, "I don't wanna be a good girl. I just want you

to stay with me!"

At that sight, Nicole shoved him away weakly. "I'm alright. I can take a cab. You should accompany Miss Wrenn."

She had no intentions of mingling with Colton anymore anyway.

Yet, his attitude remained firm. Despite her rejection, he grasped her arm to stop her from moving. "I'll drive you

home."
