Winnie borrowed a wheelchair from the hospital. After registering, she wheeled Sebastian to the

orthopedic department on the third floor.

By a stroke of chance, she bumped into Josiah in the corridor on the third floor.

With Josiah making the arrangements, all the procedures became much simpler and more efficient.

When Sebastian went in for an X-ray, they both waited outside.

Worried that she would disrupt Josiah’s work, Winnie suggested, “Why don’t you get back to work? I’ll

be fine waiting here alone.”

Josiah murmured an acknowledgment, but he didn’t budge an inch.

“Where’s Yolanda? Is she not by Old Mr. Xander’s side? She’s his family, so it should be her keeping

guard here instead.”

“She isn’t answering her phone, but I’ve already texted her. At present, she’s no different from Nate,

blinded by love. She’s probably here as well, keeping watch over Nate.”

“What a reprehensible person! She abandoned her own biological grandfather to care for a man who

doesn’t love her and only uses her. Could she be a so-called simp?” Josiah couldn’t resist grousing.

Winnie shrugged in perplexity.

Then, she queried, “By the way, did Xavier tell you when he’s coming over?”

Josiah glanced at the time on his watch. “It should be soon. Who knows, he might have come to the

hospital by now. I’ll ask him.”

“Sure.” Since the man offered to ask Xavier that, Winnie couldn’t be bothered to take her phone out of

her bag.

However, Josiah soon received a call. It seemed that an operation required the use of a particular

machine on the spur of the moment, so he needed to go over to sign the approval form.

“Something urgent came up, so I’ve got to leave first. Phone me if you need any clarification about Old

Mr. Xander’s condition.”

In response, Winnie nodded. “Go ahead. There’s no need to worry about me.”

“Okay, I’ll be leaving, then.”

Josiah had only taken a few steps away when something abruptly occurred to him. “Oh yes, I have the

day off in the afternoon. The management at Aqua Moana said there’s a document to be signed, so I’m

going over to sign it. Your grandmother is the only one left at your house. Can she manage? Or shall I

also handle it for you when I go over?”

Surprise washed over Winnie. “You’ve also got a unit there? Why have I never heard you speaking of it

in the past?”

Josiah nudged the glasses on the bridge of his nose. “Indeed, I didn’t have a unit there in the past. But

you’ve been living there recently, so Xavier naturally won’t live too far from you. To make it more

convenient for me to monitor his condition, I had no choice but to buy a unit there. Actually, it’s not too

bad. It isn’t that far from the hospital.”

“I see. In that case, please also help me settle the matter with the management. I received a

notification from them a few days ago, but I hadn’t had time to inform my grandmother about it.”

“Sure! Just leave it to me. Then, you don’t need to mention it to her anymore.”

Shortly after Josiah left, Winnie received a call from Xavier. “I heard from Josiah that you’re also at the

hospital. Is Old Mr. Xander okay?”

“He’s having an X-ray presently, but it shouldn’t be anything major. Where are you right now?”

“Okay. I’m about to reach Nate’s hospital room. I’ll leave after saying a few words to him. Just stay at

the orthopedic department and don’t go anywhere. I’ll come over and look for you in a short while.”

After deliberating for a moment, Winnie replied, “No, it’s okay. Josiah actually got a nurse here to keep

an eye on things, so it doesn’t matter even if I leave. I think I’d better head over to Nate’s hospital room

directly. Old Mr. Xander is worried about Yolanda and asked me to look for her on his behalf.”

“All right, then. In that case, I’ll wait for you in the hospital room.”

When they had finished speaking, both of them hung up the phone.

Winnie then put her phone away in preparation of getting to her feet and leaving.

Coincidentally, Sebastian concluded his X-ray session and came out at that precise moment.

She went over and inquired about his condition before telling him about her subsequent plan.

For that reason, she was delayed for a while.

In Nate’s hospital room, Beatrice and Nate were the only ones there by the time Xavier arrived.

Xavier didn’t see any signs of Yolanda.

He made some inquiries from Beatrice and texted Winnie: Yolanda isn’t here, but she might have been

here previously. They’ve gone to check the surveillance footage. Are you still coming over in this case?

His text was delivered in no time, but Winnie didn’t reply to him immediately.

He knew that she might be busy with Sebastian’s matters, so he didn’t rush her.

Just when he had exchanged a few more words with Beatrice, the latter suddenly received a call and

stepped out of the room.

At that, he and Nate were the only ones left in the hospital room.

They had no common topics in the first place, and Nate couldn’t speak at the moment. In an instant,

the hospital room plunged into such silence that even the sound of their breathing was clearly audible.

Nevertheless, such a chilly atmosphere didn’t last long, for Xavier’s phone rang.

It was an exceedingly important call.

He initially didn’t want to take the call in front of Nate, but the caller was currently in a unique location

where the signal was pretty poor.

It wasn’t easy to get a phone call through, so he answered the call at once.

“You’ve found her tracks? Where’s the exact location?” After uttering those two questions, he left the

hospital room.

As soon as he left, Nate, who was initially reclining sideways on the bed, promptly sat up.

For some inexplicable reason, his instincts were screaming that the person Xavier spoke of on the

phone was referring to Yulissa.

He was convinced that the man was searching for Yulissa’s whereabouts. In other words, she’s still

alive!

That belief kept him going. Disregarding even the pain from his wound, he furtively got out of bed and

followed Xavier.

After Xavier and Nate had both left, Winnie arrived at the hospital room.

To her confusion, the hospital room was empty, not a single soul there.

Nate, who was supposed to be lying on the hospital bed, was no longer there. Neither was Xavier.

She took out her phone, planning to ask Xavier for his current location. Only then did she see the text

he sent her a while ago.

Immediately, she gave Xavier a call. Unfortunately, his line was busy.

She found it boring to stay in the empty hospital room alone, so she went in the direction of the

surveillance room.

More than familiar with that private hospital belonging to Josiah’s family, she arrived at the surveillance

room in no time.

When she arrived, Beatrice and Kevin were looking over the earlier surveillance footage in front of

Nate’s hospital room.

The moment they caught sight of her, they all greeted each other politely.

Thereafter, Beatrice and Kevin continued scrutinizing the surveillance footage.

After replaying it once, Kevin pointed at a figure on the screen and declared, “This was the woman.

When I opened the door and stepped out, she had already gone a distance away. She was acting all

suspicious and ran off even faster than a rabbit.”

Beatrice’s brows creased as she studied the woman in the frame. “Who is she? Do you know her?”

Kevin shook his head. “No. I’ve never seen her before.”

Winnie, on the other hand, recognized the woman. “That’s Yolanda Xander. I think she specifically went

to visit Nate.”

Hearing that, Beatrice exclaimed, “Ah, so she’s Yolanda! I thought it was someone with nefarious

motives. Since it’s her, there’s no need to investigate further. I think we should just head back.”

Indicating his agreement, Kevin made to leave with her.

However, Winnie showed no signs of doing the same.

It was a massive hospital, so there were a few hundred surveillance cameras in operation. Right then,

she was staring at some other place’s surveillance footage.

Upon seeing that she was still standing there without budging, Beatrice couldn’t help turning around

and inquiring, “Are you not leaving, Winnie? What are you looking at?”

Winnie frowned, for she had then spotted the image she wanted to see.

Lifting her finger, she pointed at one of the screens. “Look at that.”

Beatrice cast her gaze in the direction of Winnie’s finger, only to see her nephew, Xavier, making a call.

With a door separating them, her son, who still had a tube in his neck and his arm in a cast, was

eavesdropping on her nephew’s conversation.

And in a corner behind him stood Yolanda.

“What?” Beatrice gaped at her younger son in the surveillance footage before shifting her gaze to her

elder son beside her. “Is your brother sick of living? He still dares to get out of bed in such a condition!

Go and drag him back to the room! What despicable attitude, one eavesdropping after another!”

No sooner had her words rang out than Xavier ended his phone conversation in the surveillance

footage.

Seizing the opportunity, Winnie immediately texted him.

When Xavier received her text, he lifted his head and glanced at the surveillance camera. Then, he

strode off in the other direction without going out of his way to catch Nate red-handed.

Meanwhile, after he had left, Yolanda showed herself to Nate.

Her sudden appearance surprised Nate greatly.

He typed on his phone screen: Why are you here? Are you stalking me?

Sheer anguish flooded Yolanda at the sight of his arm in a cast and a tube in his throat.

“I don’t know if this counts as stalking you. I was merely worried that it’d be dangerous for you to come

out in your condition. I also heard Xavier’s words earlier. His men found Yulissa’s whereabouts, but so

what? Are you planning to go to Jipsdale in your current condition? Do you know what kind of place

that is? In your pathetic condition at present, you’ll get an infection in less than a day if you go there!

There’s a hole in your throat right now. Are you aware that you’ll be dead even with a slight infection? I

beg you, okay? Forget about that Yulissa winab!”

Forget Yulissa? It’s not like my parents never said such a thing. But I didn’t even listen to them, so how

could I possibly listen to her?

Nate couldn’t be bothered to type anymore. He said nothing, circling around her right away.

Resentment bubbled within Yolanda, and she promptly chased after him.

“You’re not allowed to go!”

In response, Nate disdainfully typed: Who do you think you are? And what gives you the right to control

me?

“I’ve got the right because I’m pregnant and am the mother of your child!”

At her answer, Nate found it absolutely incredulous. He typed: What a joke! We’ve only had intercourse

once, and it was about a week ago. Besides, I wore a condom. Yet, you’re saying that you’re pregnant?

Do you take me for a three-year-old kid?

“My menstruation has always been like clockwork, but it’s been late for a week this time. At the one-

week mark of pregnancy, one can determine whether she’s pregnant by testing the level of HCG in her

blood. I’m a doctor myself. Do you think I don’t even know that much? Even if you don’t care about me,

Nate, won’t you think about our child?”

Alas, Nate’s reply read: What do you mean? You tampered with the condom, did you? You repulse me,

Yolanda! Even if you’re really pregnant, I don’t want the child. Abort it!

In the surveillance room, Winnie merely stared at the screen. She couldn’t hear what Yolanda was

saying at all.

All she could see was the two of them tugging at each other as though putting on a pantomime.

After a while, she found it pointless, so she left the surveillance room.

As she headed toward the elevator, she rang Xavier up. “Who were you talking to on the phone earlier,

and what was the conversation about?”
