“Xavier?”
Winnie turned around and lifted her head. Before she could make eye contact with the man behind her,
she was pulled into an embrace.
At that moment, her head was gently leaning against a warm and familiar chest.
She wrapped her arms around the man’s waist tightly and exclaimed in surprise, “Why are you back so
soon?”
“I completed my work sooner than expected, so I got back a day earlier,” Xavier answered, his tone
filled with remorse.
After saying that, he couldn’t help but plant a light peck on Winnie’s hair before apologizing, “I’m sorry I
got back late. Just leave everything to me.”
Winnie inhaled the familiar scent on Xavier’s body and finally felt a sense of relief after a few days of
chaos.
“Okay.” She nodded as she relaxed and leaned against him entirely. “I need your help.”
“Sure,” he whispered. “I will always lend you a hand. You can leave it to me without worrying.”
The couple enjoyed a quiet moment in each other’s arms. After Winnie felt she had recharged her
spirit, she finally got up and told Xavier, “Let’s talk outside.”
“Okay.” Xavier reached out and held her hand before falling silent.
Shortly after, they exited the ward together.
A dim light was switched on outside the ward. As soon as they walked there, Mason got to his feet
swiftly and explained, “Ms. Garland, it was Mr. Fairchild who asked me to stay quiet just now.”
Winnie let out a soft hum in acknowledgment before telling Mason, “You may go back and rest now.
Come back after you’ve got some sleep. We don’t need you for now.”
“All right!” Mason nodded and left the ward promptly.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter Mason left, Xavier held Winnie in his arms and sat down on the couch.
He cradled Winnie’s hands and said, “I already know the general situation after Josiah told me about it.
Currently, the possibility of Granny confessing her crimes is low. So, I’ll make a police report as soon as
the sun rises. It’ll take another hour. What do you think about this plan?”
“All right, we’ll do that, then.” She had already made up her mind. “It’s not a good idea to delay further.
Is everything fine on Stuart’s end? We can’t afford to make any more mistakes on this matter.”
“Don’t worry. Stuart’s completely under our control. I won’t let him escape this time.”
“Okay.”
“There’s one more hour to go.” Seeing Winnie’s reddened and swollen eyes, Xavier frowned and felt
his heart wrench. “Talk to me. Tell me everything that’s troubling you now. We will face them and solve
them together.”
“All right…” Winnie didn’t even feel this much grievance when she was being called ungrateful and
heartless by Jacinta.
After all, she knew she must stay strong and maintain her rationality during that time.
However, now that she was in front of Xavier, she could feel all the grievances she had suffered
crashing down on her, turning her eyes red to the point that she wanted to cry.
Winnie leaned on his warm and strong shoulder as she vented her feelings.
This was the only time when she would babble everything on her mind without any reserves.
Despite her prattle, Xavier listened attentively with his gaze fixed on her face from the beginning till the
end.
After Winnie was done ranting about her problems, he comforted her gently, “Silly girl, just leave this to
me. From now onward, you don’t have to worry about this matter anymore.”
Time flew as they embraced each other and shut their eyes to get some rest.
When it was finally morning, the doctor who was doing their rounds informed Winnie that Jacinta might
be awake within half an hour.
Not long after, Josiah also brought some breakfast and arrived at the ward.
Since he knew Xavier had returned in the early morning, he brought some food for both Winnie and
Xavier.
After placing down the breakfast, Josiah glanced at his watch and asked Xavier, “Is it all right if we get
going in fifteen minutes?”
Xavier glanced at Winnie before replying to Josiah, “We don’t have to wait another fifteen minutes.
Let’s go now.”
Xavier didn’t want to see his beloved woman feel distressed by this matter any longer. He even wished
that this entire situation would be over right then.
Unexpectedly, he bumped into Rufus right when he reached the entrance of the ward.
“Grandpa?” Xavier asked in confusion. “Why are you here?”
Rufus was equally surprised to see Xavier there as well. “When did you come back? I thought you’d be
there for two more days?”
“I got back early.”
“Mm-hmm.” Rufus patted Xavier’s shoulder and said, “It’s indeed your responsibility to handle such a
huge issue that happened at home. It’s been tough on Winnie throughout the few days you were
absent.”
“Yes, I know.”
Hearing that, Rufus nodded before asking again, “Why are you in such a rush? You haven’t even
changed yet. Where are you going?”
“I’m going to make a police report,” Xavier immediately responded. “I want to settle this as soon as
possible.”
“Is there no other way to proceed from Jacinta’s side? Is she still refusing to confess to her crimes?”
Rufus inquired.
Xavier nodded. “Looks like there’s no room left for discussion. Last night, she was sedated because

Hearing that, Rufus heaved a deep sigh. “To be honest, Jacinta is a pitiful person, too. It’ll be best if the
grudges and grievances can be resolved today. However, your Uncle Stuart is still my biological son. I
think he deserves a chance to confess. Let me talk to him. It’ll be great if he’s willing to confess. But if
he remains unrepentant, I won’t hesitate anymore.”
Xavier furrowed his brows. “I understand your concern, Grandpa. But I must remind you not to trust
Uncle Stuart’s words. He might be lying to you even if he promised to confess his crimes. Don’t agree
with any of his unreasonable requests.”
“Of course, I won’t.” Rufus knitted his brows and smiled at Xavier. “You’ve grown gutsy now, huh? You
even dare to lecture your grandpa now.”
Xavier pursed his lips lightly and replied, “I don’t have the courage to do so. Besides, I’m not lecturing
you. It’s just a reminder.”
“Fine, I got it. I know what to do. You must’ve already confiscated Stuart’s phone, right? Call them now.”
“Okay,” Xavier responded before taking out his phone to make a call.
Shortly after, the phone call was answered. After Xavier explained the situation, he handed the phone
to Rufus.
Rufus accepted the phone and paced around the ward while talking to Stuart.
Since Rufus was walking around the ward, no one else could hear what Stuart had said.
The only thing that everyone could hear was Rufus’ answer before he ended the call. “All right, I
promise you.”
With that, Rufus returned to Xavier’s side with the phone in his hand.
Xavier looked at Rufus with a deep frown and asked, “Grandpa, what promise did you make with Uncle
Stuart? Didn’t we just agreed not to accept his requests so easily?”
