“What?” Lisanne exclaimed. “How do you know that the police have come looking for me? Are you also

looking for me? Where are you now? I’m already at the entrance. How come I don’t see you?”

“No,” clarified Winnie. “I just passed by your station and met two police officers that I know. One of

them is Greta. You should know her because you have seen her photo before.”

“By the way, I saw…” Halfway through her sentence, Lisanne lowered her voice all of a sudden.

“Winnie, I can’t tell you much because this matter is confidential.”

“Confidential?” Instinctively, Winnie frowned. “It must be a big deal then.”

“Yes, but I really can’t share the details with you. Please don’t ask me anymore.”

Winnie acknowledged her request and said, “I understand. Since you can’t tell me, then I won’t ask.

But, Lisanne, please don’t take unnecessary risks and stay safe always.”

Winnie was aware that both Greta and James were not ordinary police officers.

That was especially true for Greta. All her assignments were very challenging.

Winnie recalled the day when she sent the body of Mason over. Greta took the initiative and asked

James for permission to participate in the investigation regarding Mason. However, James turned her

down straight away and told her that their superiors had assigned another case to her.

Winnie assumed that the assignment that Greta had must be related to Lisanne and the science

academy.

With that thought in mind, Winnie reminded her again, “You have to take care of your own safety. You

are a scientist, not a combatant. No matter what you may encounter in the future, save yourself first.”

“Don’t worry, Winnie. The police will protect us. Furthermore, I’m not alone. Oh, crap! I slipped up

again. I really can’t chat with you any longer. In a short while, I’ll be going to the Director’s office.”

“All right then. I won’t take up your time. Please remember what I told you.”

“Got it.” After a while, Lisanne said, “After this, you may not be able to get in touch with me for some

time. But there’s no need to worry. It’s normal.”

“I understand. Bye.”

After ending the call, Winnie asked the driver to send her to Josiah’s hospital.

On the way there, she had already phoned Josiah and informed him.

Therefore, once Winnie arrived at the hospital, he took her straight to the laboratory.

Josiah handed her a set of protective gear according to her request. “What do you intend to do?”

“To prepare myself,” replied Winnie as she put on the protective gear. “Harold is very well prepared,

and we should do that as well. Avenport isn’t Manchernius. Therefore, Harold can bring with him any

weapons he wants to, but not us. Hence, we have to take things that have instant effects but don’t

cause major harm so that we will be able to restrain him at the crucial juncture.”

“I understand” Josiah nodded. “That’s easy. I can supply you with an endless number of scalpels.

Rumor has it I own a limited-edition scalpel studded with diamonds. Do you want it?”

“A diamond-studded scalpel?” Winnie rolled her eyes at him. “Such an expensive thing. Save it for

yourself.”

Josiah burst out laughing. “I was just joking with you. You actually believed me. Since when you have

seen such a scalpel?”

Winnie glared at him again. “How should I know? Perhaps, that’s a hobby of yours?”

The two of them helped one another zip up before entering the laboratory.

Halfway through, Winnie’s phone rang out loudly.

It was a troublesome thing to remove and put back on a protective suit. However, Winnie thought it

might be something urgent, so she left the laboratory immediately.

It was Jasmine from Garland Group.

After Winnie answered the call, her expression changed dramatically.

Josiah, who had been in the laboratory and keeping an eye on Winnie all the while, walked toward the

glass window when he saw the change in her face.

He knocked on the glass and gestured to her to answer her phone.

The laboratory was soundproof, so they had to communicate via their phones.

Winnie answered his call promptly and told Josiah, “Something’s happened. The company received a

threatening parcel. I have to go there right now.”

Josiah frowned. “Is it addressed to you?”

“Yes. I’m seldom at Garland Group, so there aren’t many people who will send me things there. My

assistant will open up all of my parcels and look through them before passing the valuable items to me.

This time around, there may be human blood inside this particular parcel.”

“Should I go with you?”

“No need for that. You continue with whatever you are doing. Other than Harold, I can’t think of anyone

else who will do such a thing. I will contact Captain Gibson at once.”

“All right.” Whatever Josiah was doing at the present moment was equally important, so he did not

insist on following Winnie to Garland Group. “Go on then. Be careful. Once I’m done, I’ll send it over to

you.”

Winnie nodded and left in a hurry.

On the way to the company, she made a phone call to the police. In the end, David arrived at Garland

Group before her because of their respective locations.

By the time she arrived, David and the others were already waiting in the conference room. The

bloodied parcel was also on the table.

She strode up to the parcel. One look, and she confirmed that it was sent by Harold!

That was because there was a puppet the length of a forearm. The word “Mason” was written on the

puppet’s face in blood. As for the midsection of the puppet, it had been slashed open and filled with

bloodied cotton wool.

The blood stained the box and emitted a metallic stench.

That was the exact state in which Mason was found dead.

In that instant, Winnie clenched her fists and said angrily, “This is a provocation from Harold!”

With that, she turned to Jasmine and asked, “Did you see the person who sent this parcel?”

Jasmine shook her head. “No, but the receptionist might have seen the person.”

David added, “I have already sent for the receptionist.”

“Fine. Captain Gibson, let’s go to the control room. Please get them to send the receptionist directly

there.”

David acknowledged and instructed someone to do so.

The control room was on the second floor. When they reached there, two police officers and the

receptionist were already there.

The security guard retrieved the surveillance footage from earlier on. They saw a total of three couriers

entering the lobby, but only one of them was wearing a cap and a mask.

That man did an excellent job of concealing his face. The surveillance cameras could not capture his

full face at all.

Even the receptionist did not get a good look. “I could only see his eyes. Even then, he looked as if he

was squinting his eyes on purpose. He didn’t say anything, so I didn’t hear his voice. I only know he’s

very tall and roughly around the height of our CEO. Other than that, I have no idea.”

“That sounds about right,” said Winnie with a frown. She then turned to David. “Harold has a similar

height and build as Xavier. This courier is very suspicious.”
