Chapter 376
The housekeeper, standing at one side, glanced at the young, gorgeous newcomer speechlessly. Then,
she uttered in disagreement, “How can you say that? Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild have a very strong and
healthy relationship. Besides, Mrs. Fairchild’s condition will certainly be cured. Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild are
wealthy, so they will definitely find a way to treat her eyes. You are just a housekeeper here who works
for Mr. and Mrs. Fairchild. Don’t you think it’s a little inappropriate for you to say that? You’ll have to face
the consequences if they hear you and may even lose your job.”

“You’re right. I do work here. What you said made a lot of sense. Thank you for your reminder. I’ll avoid
saying things like that in the future. Still, not every disease in this world can be cured, not even if that
person is rich. Many loaded people ultimately died due to illnesses. Moreover, wealthier people tend to
have more fragile relationships because they have the freedom to choose the better options. Unlike
ordinary couples who need to tolerate and support one another, affluent men can simply look for another
wife as they please. They can even engage in multiple relationships with different women
simultaneously.”
The other housekeeper was stumped. “What are you trying to say? Are you really here to work?” She felt
suspicious. “Don’t tell me you’re attempting to make a move on Mr. Fairchild? If that’s the case, I suggest
you drop the idea. You’re unworthy of him. Even if Mrs. Fairchild remains blind for the rest of her life, you
can’t hold a candle to her, not even with all your might.”

The housekeeper spoke blatantly, and her words were quite hurtful. Still, the pretty maid smiled
nonchalantly. “Perhaps. But anything can happen in this world.”
That night, Xavier and Winnie held one another to sleep.
That was also the best sleep she had gotten in so many days.
On the other hand, Xavier didn’t rest well because he couldn’t be as optimistic as Winnie.
While she was sound asleep, he sneaked out to puff on a cigarette.
It had been a long time since he had last smoked, but he couldn’t resist the urge anymore after those few
days.
He had to find a way to vent his annoyance, just like how he was puffing out the cigarette smoke.
After Xavier spent a few hours alone in the garden, Wilhelm arrived.
Both men didn’t wish to interrupt Winnie’s sleep, so they didn’t wake her up.
Wilhelm was enraged when he saw Xavier.
He grasped the latter’s collar and gnashed his teeth in rage. “Didn’t you promise you would safeguard
her? What happened now? She lost her vision! Is this how you protect her even after you swore on it
with your life?”
“I’m sorry.” Xavier didn’t make any excuse, as his failure to keep Winnie safe was a cold, hard fact.
Wilhelm’s anger flared up whenever he was reminded of his little sister’s current condition.
In fact, he had gained a better understanding of the situation because Winnie had explained the
circumstances to him, and Xavier couldn’t be blamed for everything that had happened.
Nevertheless, Wilhelm was still mad at Xavier.
He needed to teach the latter a lesson, so he punched him.
Xavier didn’t retaliate and merely endured Wilhelm’s wrath.
After getting beaten by Wilhelm and falling to the ground, he got back to his feet and stood before
Wilhelm again.
Wilhelm restrained himself after punching Xavier twice. Subsequently, the two began drinking in
depression and frustration.
After finishing a bottle of alcohol, Wilhelm rubbed his temples and said to Xavier, “Do something with the
injury on your face.”
Xavier propped his head up wearily and responded, “That’s not necessary. Winnie can’t see it anyway.
She won’t notice anything if we don’t mention it.”
“Whatever.” Wilhelm glanced at Xavier. “Still, I should inform you in advance that I’m bringing Winnie
away.”
Xavier lifted his head at once after hearing that. “No! You can’t bring her away!”
“Why are you so anxious?” Wilhelm shot a displeased look at Xavier. “I haven’t even finished my
sentence. I’m not talking about separating the two of you. I’m just planning to bring her back to Yartran to
seek medical attention. You can tag along after you make the necessary arrangements at your company.
It’s fine even if you’re not going. We’ll take good care of her, but I think she will want you to keep her
company.”
Xavier let out a sigh of relief upon being enlightened by Wilhelm’s intention.
He uttered firmly, “I’ll go. I’m tagging along wherever she goes.”
“Okay. Arrange someplace for me to rest. I’ll meet with Winnie when she wakes up tomorrow morning.
You should clean up and get rid of the smell on your body before going back to accompany her.”
“All right.” Xavier went to take a shower before returning to Winnie’s side.
The next morning, Winnie woke up while lying in Xavier’s embrace after being roused by the alarm she
had set.
Now that she couldn’t tell the time by looking at the color of the sky, she had to rely on alarm clocks.
She was slightly surprised because Xavier had yet to wake up even though it was already eight o’clock in
the morning.
She reached out to touch his face. “It’s time to wake up, you lazy pig. How can you still be asleep when

When Winnie touched the wound on the corner of his lips, Xavier subconsciously hissed in pain.
Puzzled, she immediately retracted her arm and asked him while wearing a frown, “What’s the matter?
Where does it hurt? Is it the place I touched?”
Seeing Winnie withdrawing her arm, he swiftly grabbed her fingers and placed her palm on his chest.
“This place is hurting. I’m in so much pain.”
“What’s going on? Why is this happening?”
“That’s because my wife called me a pig.”
Winnie was rendered speechless. “I thought you were genuinely having chest pain.”
Xavier chuckled and planted a kiss on her forehead. He didn’t tell her about him getting beaten up by
Wilhelm last night, but he informed her of Wilhelm’s arrival at Lagune Mansion.
Winnie was shocked. “So soon? As expected of Wilhelm. I’ll go and meet with him now.”
She was about to sit up as she spoke, but Xavier held her back and gently kissed her lips. “There’s no
need to hurry. He reached here in the middle of the night, so I reckon he’s still sleeping soundly. I have
something for you. Wait for a moment while I go get it.”
“What is it?” Winnie was curious.
He pecked her on the lips. “You’ll know in a little while.”
With that, he lifted the blanket and got off the bed before returning shortly after with an exquisite box in
his hands.
He furrowed his brows at the sight of that delicate box. What’s the point even if it’s pretty? She can’t see
it anyway.
He took out the item inside and tossed the expensive box into the trash can next to the bed.
“What exactly is it?” Winnie couldn’t help but ask again.
Xavier sat beside her and uttered tenderly, “This is a customized watch I ordered. Would you stretch out
your hand, my dear?”
