Chapter 388

“Shh, quiet. Do you want Xavier's driver to spot us?” the man rasped as he brought Shania to a comer.

He didn't forget to pull up the mask to cover liis face.

Shania was so stunned that she didn't attempt to escape.

Despite her curiosity, she was afraid that Xavier's driver would discover them, so she lowered her voice

as she asked. “You haven't told me who you are.”

“There's no rush.” The man quickened his footsteps. “Let's talk elsewhere. I can tell you everything you

want to know.”

Shania had nowhere to go and nothing to lose, so she made up her mind and hopped into the man's

car.

The man drove her to a secluded and old serviced apartment, where he brought her to one of the

rooms.

Inside, he removed his mask and shot her a smile. “Have a seat. Make yourself at home.”

Shania sat down on a seat near the wall and kept a distance from him.

She stared at him and knitted her brows.

“Why are you staring at me? I won't eat you.”

Shania's frown deepened. “It's strange to see you smiling at me with this face. Xavier never smiles at

me.”

“He's heartless, right?” The man's lips curled up. “He's not a gentleman in the slightest, is he?”

“Yes!” Hatred filled Shania's heart when she recalled what Xavier did to her. “If it weren't for him, I

would not be in this situation. How are you related to him? What are you up to?”

“I'm here to help you. of course.” The man retrieved a cigarette from the box. After lighting it up. he

asked. “Do you mind if I smoke?”

“No! You can smoke, but don't forget to tell me everything.”

“Of course.” The man took a puff of the cigarette before asking sternly, "Do you know what would have

happened if I hadn't stopped you in time just now?”

Shania furrowed her brows. “I had no idea Xavier's driver was nearby. I should thank you for that. But

why did you help me? How did you come to know my name?”

“I want to be your friend, that's why,” came the man's answer. His eyes crinkled up as he added. “I

believe you've heard of the saying that the enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

Shania gave Xavier the once-over before raising an eyebrow in question. “So, you're telling me that

Xavier is your enemy? What's this all about? What's the source of your animosity?”

“What do you think?” The man pointed at his own face. "Do you think I look like him?”

Shania scrutinized him carefully, her gaze lingering on liis features. “You don't just look like him. I'm

sure I can say with confidence that you look exactly like him. Are you twins?” she asked, her voice

tinged with curiosity.

The man shook liis head and told her the explanation he had been preparing to deliver for some time.

“We're not exactly twins, but you're close. We're actually half-siblings who share the same father. We

share the same surname, Fairchild, but that is where the similarities end. He is the fortunate young

heir, while I. unfortunately, am the illegitimate child who must remain hidden from the public eye.”

“Really?” Shania sounded suspicious. “I've never heard about Xavier having a half-sibling.”

“It's nonnal, as this is the Fairchild family's secret. Never mind if I'm just an ordinary, illegitimate child. I

am the spitting image of him, so do you think he'll be kind enough to allow me to live? He thinks my

existence is a threat to him.”

Shania was perplexed. “What do you mean by that? Do you mean to suggest that Xavier has done

something to you as well?”

“Yes, that's right,” the man replied, liis expression showing a hint of sadness. “Don't you find my voice

weird?”

“Yes, it sounds strange. It doesn't sound nonnal. Have you experienced any kind of injury to your vocal

cords?”

“Yes.” Hatred filled the man's gaze as he spoke. “It was Xavier's doing. He wanted to get rid of me, but

I was lucky enough to escape and survived. However, my vocal cords were damaged beyond repair. All

I want is to spend the rest of my life in peace with my mom, but he took that away from me by killing

her. I don't care if he wants me dead, but he had no right to kill my mom. Xavier, liis dad. and the

Fairchild family owe us! I came to Avenport to reclaim what was rightfully mine. That's why I said we're

friends.”

A brief silence later, Shania said, “If you're not lying, then Xavier deserves to die.”

She decided not to completely trust him, but if he could help her take her revenge, she would be willing

to overlook any lies he might have told her.

After pondering for a moment, she questioned, “What are you going to do now? Is there a way for me

to get involved in my plan? I would like to be able to contribute in some meaningful way.”

“It looks like I found the right person,” the man commented. “Just like me. you not only want to take

revenge but want to vent your frustrations. Don't worry. I'll make sure you'll get to experience the

gratification of taking revenge.”

“Sure! However, it's pretty hard for me to do that right now.” Shania changed the topic abruptly. “They

took my freedom away from me. I don't have my ID and I'm completely out of money. I can't even afford

a meal. Would you be able to help me out with that first?”

“Yes, Ms. Hamilton. I can certainly provide you with a new identity. I cannot get close to him and I'm

unfamiliar with Avenport, so I'm counting on you to enter Fairchild Corporation and assist me in

obtaining information about liis daily activities within the company.”

“Daily activities? His schedule?” Shania pondered over it before realizing what he meant. “Are you

planning on imitating him before finding a chance to replace him?”

“That's right,” the man replied cheerfully. “We look identical, so the only way to take over Fairchild

Corporation is to become him. Isn't that right?”

“First, you need to stop smiling,” Shania said to him sternly. “That damned Xavier isn't as open to

persuasion as you!”

“Okay. I'll listen to you.” The man's smile faded away as he pulled out an ID card and handed it to

Shania.

Shania took the ID card from him. She studied the woman's face on the card and couldn't help but

notice the strong resemblance to her own. “She looks a lot like me,” she murmured in surprise.

The man casually responded. “Yes, she looks a bit like you, but she is not nearly as attractive as you

are. You could always use makeup to make yourself look less attractive so that people won't be able to

realize that you're not her.”

Shania chuckled out loud. “Oil, you're good with compliments, but you need to change that, too. Xavier

hardly ever speaks positively about anyone other than that b*tch, Winnie. That b*stard is just Winnie's

simp.”
