Ever since Xavier went away a few days ago, they would video call each other every single day.

Although she couldn't see Xavier during the calls, at least Xavier could still see her and talk to her.

Needless to say, it was odd to not hear from Xavier for two days straight.

Worried about Xavier, Winnie decided to call Wilhelm to ask if everything was all right.

Since she couldn't see, she could only navigate her phone with voice commands.

To her dismay, her phone died the moment she called out to her AI assistant on her phone.

Hence, she had no choice but to charge her phone first.

Normally, she could do these things with ease. That day, however, everything just kept going wrong for

her.

When she was looking for her charger on the bed, she knocked over the bedside lamp. After that, she

accidentally dropped her phone while picking up the lamp off the floor. Despite hearing the sound of her

phone knocking on the bed frame as it fell, she still couldn't find it when she reached out in that

direction. To make matters worse, she even hit the corner of her eye as she was searching.

Consequently, she couldn't help but curse out in frustration.

Fortunately for her, Mary heard the commotion and came looking for her.

As soon as Mary entered the room, she saw Winnie sprawled on the floor and covering half of her face

with her hand.

Mary panicked at that sight. She was afraid that something had happened to Winnie, so she

immediately rushed into the room and asked anxiously, “Mrs. Fairchild, what happened? Are you hurt?”

“I'm fine.” Winnie covered her right eye with her hand and frowned. “I lost my phone. Could you please

help me search for it and connect it to my charger?”

“Of course! I'll look for it now.” Mary helped Winnie to the bed and looked around for the phone.

Soon, she found Winnie's phone under the bed.

“I found it!” Mary exclaimed before picking up the lamp and connecting the phone to the charger.

“Okay.” Winnie rubbed her eye and said, “Please switch it on for me. I need to make an urgent call.”

“Got it. It needs a few seconds to boot up,” Mary answered while looking at Winnie.

Since Winnie was covering her right eye prior to that, Mary didn't get to see the state of Winnie's eye.

Upon seeing it, however, Mary instantly jumped in alarm. “Mrs. Fairchild, you have a bloodshot eye! Did

you knock your eye against something just now? Are you in pain? How are you feeling? I'll send you to

the hospital now.”

Mary's only responsibility was to take care of Winnie. That was why she would freak out whenever

Winnie felt discomfort.

Yet, Winnie couldn't be bothered. “I'm all right. I felt pain when I knocked against something just now,

but it doesn't hurt anymore. It's bloodshot because I was rubbing it, so I don't need to go to the hospital.

Is my phone ready? Give it to me.”

“Okay.” Mary gave the phone to Winnie and uttered, “I'll give Dr. Houghton a call so that he can take a

look at it.”

Winnie merely grunted in acquiescence before ringing Wilhelm up through voice commands.

However, she couldn't get through to Wilhem either.

Winnie would normally give up trying to call him after a failed attempt. After all, Wilhelm was a busy

man, so it was rather normal for him to not be able to answer incoming calls.

Be that as it may, a sense of foreboding rose within Winnie that day.

She went on to call him at least five more times, but she still couldn't reach Wilhelm.

Winnie had no choice but to call Lisanne, but the same thing happened.

“How could this be? What on earth is going on?” Winnie was on the verge of a mental breakdown. She

was even furrowing her brows and mumbling to herself, “It's understandable if I can't get through to one

of them, but how is it possible that none of them is picking up?”

With that, she turned toward Mary and asked, “Have you called Josiah? Where is he now? When can

he get here?”

Mary had already contacted Josiah earlier on, so she immediately answered, “Dr. Houghton is staying

at his own mansion tonight, so he'll be here in around ten minutes.”

Josiah had a mansion in the same residential area, but it was a distance away from the one Winnie

was in. Even with a car, he would still need around ten minutes to arrive at her mansion.

At that moment, Winnie was at a loss, and she needed to discuss her next move with someone.

While waiting for Josiah to arrive, Winnie called Louis.

Louis picked up the call almost instantly.

Winnie went straight to the point and asked, “Have you contacted Xavier in the past two days?”

In a nervous tone, Louis replied, “Have you not been able to contact Mr. Fairchild in the past two days

as well, Mrs. Fairchild? The last time I talked to Mr. Fairchild was yesterday morning.”

Winnie's heart sank when she found out that Louis hadn't been able to reach Xavier as well.

She frowned deeply and unconsciously clenched her phone tightly. “What's going on? Have you

contacted anyone in Alendor? What's the current situation over there?”

“We made some calls, but we haven't gotten a reply yet,” Louis explained. “I heard that Ms. Marsh

found mineral resources yesterday, and the team she led seemed to have entered the cave. Mr.

Fairchild also went over, but he did tell us something before he went in. He told us the reception there

might be bad, so we weren't concerned when we couldn't reach him yesterday. I only felt something

was amiss today, so I only started contacting the people in Alendor in the afternoon. I'm sorry, Mrs.

Fairchild. It's an oversight on my part.”

“Now is not the time to blame yourself.” Winnie felt a headache coming, so she massaged her temples

and said, “Please call me as soon as something crops up. By the way, do you know if my brother,

Wilhelm Speiser, was accompanying Mr. Fairchild?”

“I'm sorry, Mrs. Fairchild. I don't know about that. Could it be that you're not able to reach Mr. Speiser

as well?” Louis asked.

“Yes.” At that point, Winnie's palms were sweating, and she was growing restless.

After she ended the call with Louis, Josiah arrived.

“Winnie!” The door to the room was open, so Josiah knocked on the door twice for formality's sake

before going in.

He then strode toward Winnie and put his medical kit aside to check out Winnie's eye. “You should've

been more careful! Your eye is terribly bloodshot!”

When Winnie heard Josiah putting on his gloves, she furrowed her brows and stopped him. “I'm fine,

but Xavier could be in trouble.”
