Penelope’s phone gave off a faint buzz from within her bag. She glanced down and saw a text from
Pete, asking her to call him back. She looked up at the man sitting across from her at the dining table.
“Lucian, I’m going to use the restroom.”
She stood up. And since she was 8 months pregnant, she couldn’t move very well, she had to walk out
of the booth slowly, while holding on to her back, then took out her cell phone and went into the
restroom
What’s up, Pete? I’m having dinner with Lucian, Penelope sounded a bit peeved.
Even though she and Pete had history and the baby she was carrying was his, she was set to become
the lady of the Lindberg family, so she wanted to keep her distance from Pete. But sometimes, she had
to rely on Pete to keep her secret, which scared her a little.
Leah had warned her countless times not to ever cross Pete and his father once she was part of the

Pete was in the middle of a card game, his phone on speaker sitting on the table. Having dinner, huh?

Penelope could hear the sounds of Pete’s card game and the noise in the background over the phone.
She reluctantly said. “Pete, it’s really tough for me to get out at night since my mom’s at home and she
keeps a close eye on me”
“How about I swing by then? Penelope, don’t you miss me? That Lucian guy doesn’t lay a finger on
you. I’ve been the one keeping you company these past few months”
Penelope’s cheeks blushed at Pete’s blunt remark over the phone. Pete, my mom’s at home. If she
finds out…”
“What’s there to be scared of? The baby inside you is mine.”
I’ll be waiting at home then…
“Great, I’ve already arranged for someone to cover up your prenatal check up today. No one will find
out.”
Thank you, Pete”
Penelope hung up, touched up her makeup in the mirror, and then left the restroom. As soon as she
stepped out, she saw Nicholas heading her way. She couldn’t help but frown at his handsome
appearance and extraordinary demeanor. He looked a lot like Grace’s son, but their demeanors were
worlds apart. She had often given Ricky a hard time back in the Flanagan family, and was taken aback
at the sight of someone so similar.
But Ricky was dead. She couldn’t possibly link this man of such stature and demeanor to Grace’s son
who had been dead for many years.
This Allison was just a help in their house, yet Lucian seemed to have a thing for her, as did Jason And
yet, this man standing before her, who didn’t seem to be short of a bob or two, was also with Allison.

Nicholas was just about to enter the restroom when he heard a woman’s voice behind him. The voice
was soft and sweet, but not to Nicholas’ liking
“Excuse me, sir…
Nicholas stopped and turned around to look at Penelope, raising an eyebrow as he waited for her to
say.
Penelope said, ‘Excuse me, sir, I’m not sure about your relationship with Allison. Are you her
boyfriend?”
Nicholas looked at her and replied, “Ms. Flanagan, if you have something to say just spit it out. No
need to beat around the bush.”
“Well, you seem to know my france, and I just thought Id give you a friendly heads up. This Allison,
she’s not as innocent as she seems”
“Well? Then, Ms. Flanagan, could you enlighten me what kind of person she is?”
