Chapter 535 It Is Really Scary

“Avery!” Cayden's shout came from outside the door.

At that moment, he was anxious and angry at the same time.

He was firing his rifle at those venomous snakes as he called out Avery's name.

When Avery heard him calling for her, she staggered to the window and began to slam on the glass. “Cayden, I'm

all right. There are many snakes outside. You have to be careful...”

Taking in the crazed look on Cayden's face, Avery suppressed the fear in her.

He seemed to be more frightened than she was.

The sight of him made her feel safe.

Cayden relaxed when he saw that Avery was safe and sound in the house.

After a long while, there was a click on the electronic door, and Cayden rushed in. He pulled Avery into his trembling

arms and apologized, “I'm sorry. I'm so sorry...”

He could have almost lost her.

“This isn't your fault. Don't blame yourself.” Avery collapsed into his arms and felt a sense of relief as if she had

gained a new leash on life.

Cayden continued holding her very tightly.

Suddenly, Avery thought of James who was still unconscious, and she broke free of Cayden's embrace. She walked

toward James and said guiltily, “If it weren't for James, I would have been bitten by the venomous snake. In order to

save me, James has snake venom in him now. I've already injected him with the antidote, but I'm not sure if it will

work. If it wasn't because of me, James wouldn't have been poisoned. How am I going to help him?” With that, tears

began to flow down her face. “We've been staying here for so long, and we've hardly seen any insects. Why are

there venomous snakes around all of a sudden? And so many of them?”

Ever since Avery got pregnant, she had become more emotional, and now, more than ever.

Cayden said with a frown, “I will get to the bottom of this matter. Both you and James are victims. I'm thankful that

James saved your life. He will be fine. Once he regains consciousness, I will give him a huge reward. Don't worry too

much.”

They could hear the sirens coming from outside, and they were getting louder by the second.

Just then, Avery felt a spasm of pain coming from her abdomen. It was so painful that she was about to pass out.

Two tall figures arrived with the police.

“Boss...” Jake and Xavier rushed into the house, covered in sweat.

When they saw James lying unconsciously on the floor and Avery's pale face, they looked nervous, and their faces

turned ashen.

Jake quickly asked, “Are Mrs. Moore and James all right?”

Have we come too late?

“James was bitten by the venomous snake, but he has been injected with the antidote. Hurry up and take him to the

hospital,” instructed Cayden coldly.

Avery caressed her stomach and tried her best not to utter a single sound.

However, in the end, she could not help but moan in pain. “C-Cayden, my stomach hurts...”

All Avery could feel was immense pain coming from her abdomen and warm fluid flowing out of her nether region.

Her instinct told her that the baby was in danger, but she refused to accept that. She had been taking great care of

the baby. Nothing must happen to her unborn child.

“Avery...”

Before Avery fainted, she heard Cayden calling out her name.

“Damn it! Why is the ambulance not here yet?” Cayden carried Avery and ran outside.

Jake, on the other hand, carried James on his back and followed suit too.

A few police cars were parked outside the mansion, and the policemen were busy running around.

They laid out dozens of dead, black mambas on the ground. It was a horrifying sight to behold.

Cayden stared at those snakes with a deadly look in his eyes.

The sheriff walked up to Cayden. When he saw the vicious look in his eyes, he took a step back. “Mr. Moore.”

“Sheriff, you know what to do, don't you?” uttered Cayden in a cold voice.

“Don't worry. We'll find out who the culprit is... However, the culprit is very cunning. He has stolen the surveillance

cameras around the mansion. We will need more time,” replied John Smith, the sheriff, as he rubbed his hands.

There were more than ten surveillance cameras around the mansion. Unfortunately, the ones nearest to the

mansion had been stolen.

“How can all the surveillance cameras be stolen? What are all of you doing?” Xavier glared at the guards from the

security department.

They bowed their heads in shame. It was not their fault, for the culprit were too brilliant.

Cayden said viciously, “Have the snakes tested, and I want to know the result as soon as possible! Check all the

surveillance cameras around this area! I don't believe we can't find anything!”

“Yes, Mr. Moore.” The imposing John dared not uttered any other word in front of Cayden.

After that, Avery and James were taken to the hospital, and Cayden went with them.

Xavier, on the other hand, dealt with the police and gave his statement.

As for Jake, he stayed behind to check on the surveillance camera footage.

At the hospital, Yuvan was lamenting his bad luck. A while ago, he was knocked down by a spoiled and eccentric girl.

His leg was broken as a result of that accident and was not completely healed yet. It wasn't easy he could rest for a

month until Cayden came and insisted that he had to help Avery keep her baby.

As Cayden's attitude was unpleasant, Yuvan, who was in a bad mood, insisted that his leg was not healed yet and

refused to go and see Avery.

In the end, Cayden threatened to break his other leg if Yuvan refused to do as he was told.

Yuvan, who was pretending to be unwell, jumped off the bed and rushed to Avery's room to attend to her.

He was crying out in his heart. Cayden, please don't threaten me every now and then. It's really scary!

Yuvan knew that Cayden was a man of his word. If he pissed Cayden off, anything could happen.

Cayden stood outside the ward, smoking. He could not care less about the no smoking sign on the wall.

“Boss.” Xavier stood next to him nervously and handed him the report of his investigation. “The test result is out.

Those venomous snakes became crazy after they came into contact with a type of hallucinogen. This hallucinogen

is found in the pesticide that was sprayed on the peonies...”

Cayden was taken aback. Earlier in the afternoon, Avery was complaining to him that the peonies were not looking

good, and after pesticides were sprayed on them, they looked much better.

His eyes narrowed, and a glint of iciness flashed across them. “Find the person who handles the pesticide at all

costs.”
