Chapter 617 “Who butchered my hair?" The very thought of stepping out in public filled her with dread. If Leopold saw her like this, he'd be repulsed to his core.
Her bodyguard replayed the footage from last night, "Madam, you were sleepwalking again, and you chopped off your own hair." “That's impossible. How could | sleepwalk? Someone's out to get me." Megan was panicked. Initially, she suspected the new boss wanted to teach her a lesson, to keep her in line, but after triple- checking with the boss and confirming it had nothing to do with him or the AK Group, she knew someone else was behind it.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtSuddenly, it hit her. Could it be Aurelia? Did she seek some witch to curse her as revenge? Grabbing a wide-brimmed hat, she dashed out in tears to find Leopold.
Leopold was roused from his sleep by her commotion.
As he opened the door, she flung herself into his arms, sobbing uncontrollably, “Leopold, someone's after me and the baby.
Please, you've got to help me." Leopold looked at her, his expression icy, “Isn't this the AK Group's doing? You've been singing that tune for ages. Isn't this a mess of your own making? Who else is there to blame?" Megan sniffled, "I don't think it's the AK Group. It's someone else." “And what, pray tell, makes you think it's not them? Have you confirmed it with the new guy? Or are you still in cahoots with AK Group, and that's why they wouldn't lay a finger on you? All your previous claims were just lies to deceive me, weren't they?" Leopold's barrage of questions made her feel like she had shot herself in the foot.
"I haven't been in touch with anyone, nor have | lied to you. It's just a gut feeling. | think Aurelia's behind this because she's always hated me for stealing you away." She was cut off mid-sentence by Leopold's stern voice, "Stop this mad dog act of snapping at everything. If Aurelia was behind this, would she have let you grab a knife and go after her?" His retort left Megan speechless. Last time, it was a farce she had orchestrated, and now it was backfiring.
“It might not have been Aurelia last time, but | think it is this time.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLeopold scoffed, "Enough. Do you take me for a fool? Do you think I'd fall for such ludicrous tales and false accusations? If someone else wanted you gone, they'd have you jump overboard and be done with it. Small punishments are a warning, and they wouldn't hurt you. If you intend to stick with AK Group, not turn a new leaf, | can't help you. You're on your own." Megan was dumbstruck, "Do you really not care if | live or die?" Leopold huffed, “The AK Group won't let you die. What's there to worry about? If you want me to intervene, spill everything you know, and help me take down AK Group. Otherwise, don't bother me.” With that, he slammed the door shut.
Megan was left feeling utterly hopeless, clearly seeing that Leopold believed this was the work of AK Group. He had no faith in her suspicions about Aurelia unless she could produce evidence to pin it on her.
Meanwhile, Aurelia had prepared a hearty breakfast for everyone.
Melissa, lured by the delightful aroma, strolled in. She had planned to sleep in until noon, but Megan's wailing had shattered her slumber, and she couldn't get back to sleep.
"Did anyone else hear those awful screams this morning?" As she spoke, Megan stormed in, fuming and shouting, “Aurelia, | know it was you. You had someone cast a spell on me, trying to kill me." Aurelia felt as though she was a giant scapegoat. She couldn't believe Megan thought she did it.
Melissa quickly interjected, “Megan, what happened? Were you the one screaming this morning?" Megan removed her hat, exposing her hair, "Aurelia had someone cast a curse on me, making me walk in my sleep and cut off my own hair."
