Leopold had reserved a booth at the local diner, halfway through his roast chicken dinner, when his phone rang. It was Kane.
"Dad, Mira's sick, and | think someone did something bad to her... like poison.” A spasm of fear shot through Leopold's heart.
He quickly excused himself and stepped outside the booth.
Aurelia, who had been sitting next to him, heard the concern in his voice and followed.

Seeing Kane, full of energy as always, Aurelia breathed a sigh of relief, "Honey, what happened to Mira?" Kane spoke softly, "Yesterday was Mira's birthday, so Nina and | went with her to the toy store. There was a clown handing out cotton candy next to the store. He made a Barbie-shaped cotton candy that Mira just loved, so she bought one. The clown said if you buy one, you get two free, so he made two more for me and Nina." "Dad's always said not to eat stuff from strangers, so | didn't eat the cotton candy. But Mira wanted mine after she finished hers, so | gave it to her. Then today, Nina called and said Mira got really sick last night, seems pretty bad." "I am wondering if her being sick could be a cotton candy problem. Nina and Mira both had it, but only Mira's sick, maybe because she ate mine." Despite his youth, Kane was analyzing the situation with mature logic.
Leopold once said Aurelia got poisoned at a restaurant and ended up in the ICU. The enemy was good at this stuff, so Kane was always careful about eating out.
A chill crept up Aurelia’s spine.
Were the rivals targeting Kane now? A lethal aura flashed in Leopold's eyes.
"Is Mira poisoned?" "Nina said the doctors haven't figured it out yet, but | suspect poison because that clown guy was weird, kept staring at me, even asked my name, but he didn't ask Nina or Mira," Kane reported.
Aurelia clenched her fists, "Baby, don't go anywhere, and just stay home, Mom and Dad will be right there." "Okay," Kane nodded, his voice steady, not showing panic or fear.
But Aurelia knew he must be scared, and he needed his mom by his side. She needed to get back immediately.
Returning to the booth, Aurelia shot a sharp glance at Megan, suspicion written all over her face.
This had Megan's fingerprints all over it.

After all, with her arrival, trouble befell Kane, which was suspicious.
Tanya was cunning and discreet, not likely to make such a blatant move.
Leopold spoke gravely, "Fredric's daughter, Mira, is sick, possibly poisoned. Aurelia and | need to head back." "Poisoned?" Tanya's face showed shock, "Who would do such a thing to a child? That's monstrous. Have you called the police?" "We're just suspecting for now. We'll notify the authorities once there's a confirmation," Leopold said calmly.
He had already instructed Kevin to alert the special police unit to investigate discreetly. He was cautious not to alarm anyone prematurely.
Megan kept her head down, sipping her soup, seemingly oblivious to the conversation, her expressions hidden in the shadows.
After finishing their meal, Leopold and Aurelia, along with William and Skyler, headed back to Elysium.
Whether Geoffrey was Skyler's twin or a split personality, Skyler was the one who knew Geoffrey best.
When Aurelia was poisoned before, it was Skyler who concocted the antidote. Perhaps he could identify the poison affecting Mira.
