Chapter 120 It Means That You Love Me

Lewis’ gaze flickered as he stared into Josephine’s eyes, suddenly speechless. His silence meant hope

for Josephine. She continued to gesture, “I’m scared of being alone at home.”

When Lewis withdrew his hand, Josephine felt a sudden void in her heart. He tenderly caressed her

cheek and murmured, “Then come with me.”

Josephine looked at him with bewilderment. He wanted to take her to meet Sierra? For some reason,

she remembered being confined in the car by him, and Josephine withdrew her hand. She stood up

and signed, “I’m going to bed.”

After that, she went upstairs without looking back. Just as she reached the top of the stairs, she heard

the sound of the door closing. It resonated like a slap against her face. Josephine abruptly turned, her

gaze distantly fixed on the firmly shut door.

She grimaced and rebuked herself. She pinched her arm, allowing the pain to bring clarity to her mind.

What was she hoping for? Everything that happened yesterday was just an illusion. He could entirely

disregard her as long as she returned obediently. After all, he was always capable of regaining control.

In the end, the one in control would always be the one to emerge victorious in any relationship.

Josephine had hurried away earlier, ignoring the discomfort in her knees. Now, a sharp stinging pain

surged through her knees. She sat on the stairs, cradling her knees in her hands. Tears streamed down

her face as she peered down from above. The mansion loomed larger than before, exuding a chilling

aura in the dim light. The furniture, bathed in soft illumination, appeared hauntingly forlorn.

She touched her forehead, and it felt warm. She was unsure if she had a fever.

Conrad entered the mansion with dinner and noticed her sitting alone on the stairs, looking like an

abandoned puppy awaiting its owner’s return. He felt a pang in his heart. He walked toward the stairs,

looked up, and called out to Josephine, “Mrs. Alvarez, come down and have dinner.”

Josephine’s empty stare shifted, and she lowered her head to look down. Her legs were slightly numb

as she forced herself up from the floor. She almost stumbled when standing up, but she caught the

railing in time.

Conrad was startled as well. It would have been disastrous if she had fallen. He said, “Mrs. Alvarez,

please take your time to come down the stairs. There’s no need to rush.”

Josephine made her way down the stairs and followed Conrad to the dining table. He prepared the

food and stood next to her, adding, “President Alvarez instructed me to make sure you finish eating

before I leave.”

Josephine froze for a moment. He truly had considered everything. She took her spoon and ate

slowly despite the food tasting like wax in her mouth.

Conrad cleared up the table and prepared to depart after she had finished eating. He reminded her

before he left, “Mrs. Alvarez, remember to lock the door.”

With that, he too left, and the front door closed again.

Josephine took another look around the mansion, thinking it looked like a massive cage. She felt

imprisoned within its walls, restricted by invisible chains that would forcefully pull her back whenever

she attempted to escape.

The location Sierra gave was quite far. It took Lewis two hours to drive there, and he arrived. near

midnight.

Most people had left the set, and only Sierra was waiting at the entrance. Someone asked, “Ms.

Woods, are you waiting for someone?”

“Yes,” Sierra replied with a smile. She felt slightly frustrated that Lewis had not arrived.

Numerous individuals were still eager to keep her company, curious to see Sierra’s mysterious

benefactor who had propelled her to such great heights. They even got A-list celebrities to play

supporting roles! In this industry, it was exceedingly challenging for newcomers to advance without a

benefactor to promote them. So most of the celebrities here had a benefactor. They were curious to

discover Sierra’s benefactor, someone whom even their benefactors wouldn’t dare offend. They

couldn’t help but relish the irony if it turned out to be some elderly man solely driven by financial

motives.

A Maybach drove across and came to a smooth stop in front of Sierra as everyone conversed and

laughed. The onlookers grew hushed, their gaze fixated on the car, waiting to see who would emerge.

The car’s door quickly opened, and a tall man with a black coat appeared.

“Lewis!” said Sierra as she walked over happily.

As he turned around, his distinctive facial features came into view. In the dim light, his cold,

disinterested eyes appeared especially frigid. It was as if he were an emotionless god, his gaze

piercing through all living beings. They couldn’t bring themselves to laugh any longer.

Most of them had encountered this face before, whether on television, in the press, or at high- level

business events. Since Lewis wasn’t involved in the entertainment industry, no one had. ever dared to

approach him, even if they knew him.

His reputation was widely known, especially among these celebrities who regularly interacted with

influential figures from various industries. It finally dawned on them-this man was Sierra’s benefactor all

along!

Sierra wrapped her arm around Lewis’ arm and questioned, “Why did you drive here yourself?

How much time did it take?”

Lewis went along with it, snaking his arm around her waist. “Just two hours. Did you have to wait a long

time?”

“It’s alright. I dressed warmly, but my hands are a little cold.”

Lewis grabbed her hand and said, “Let’s get into the car.”

Sierra happily smiled as she nodded and leaned into the man’s embrace. Then, before an envious

audience, they climbed into the car and drove away in luxury.

Shivering in the cold, the group of women stood together, exchanging glances filled with envy. Sitting in

the car, Sierra couldn’t contain her joy as she spoke to Lewis, a smug expression on her face. “You

won’t believe what I just heard, Lewis. They were saying that the person behind me was an old, ugly

man, possibly bald. It made me so furious!”

“Did you notice their expressions when you arrived? It was hilarious. Those people were just asking for

it. They had been standing there with me for so long, and now they were getting slapped across the

face. Let’s see if they dare to say anything negative about me behind my back in the future!”

As Lewis drove, Sierra rambled on. He smiled lightly, looking extremely doting.

“Hey, why aren’t you saying anything? Don’t you feel satisfied?” Sierra said.

“I took two hours to drive here, and I need another two hours to go back. Do you think I’ll feel

satisfied?” Lewis asked.

Sierra was overjoyed when he heard his response. “This means that you must love me very much.

You’ve put forth a lot of effort, my dear!”

Lewis chuckled obscurely.

“You’re exhausted from driving. How about we just book a hotel room and not go home?” Sierra

continued, her eyes flickering.

“Sure, I’ll book one for you.”

Sierra’s face sank as soon as he heard this. “What exactly do you mean by ‘for you’? Are you not

coming?”

“I’m going back. I have work tomorrow, so I don’t have time.”

“Don’t lie. Is it really because you have to return to work?” Sierra’s smile faded, and she

locked her gaze on Lewis.

Her face showed slight anger. She continued, “I’ve told you I don’t need you to be responsible, so

why…”

“Sierra,” Lewis interrupted what she was about to say next.
