Chapter 163 Evidence of His Love for Her

“Madam, you…” The nannies looked at her nervously. They were desperate to stop Bambam from

crying and took their chances with Josephine. But now they suddenly recalled that Josephine went

through two forced abortions, and the culprit behind those hideous acts was Bambam’s mother. This

realization set fear in their hearts.

Josephine raised her head and glanced at them, tightening her grip on Bambam. Maybe because she

exerted too much force, Bambam started to cry again in her arms. His voice was hoarse because he

had been crying loudly for so long.

“Madam, return the child to us. We will think of other ways to comfort him.” One nanny reached out and

wanted to grab Bambam, but Josephine turned and walked away with Bambam in her arms. Before

she could walk far, she bumped into a man’s chest and instinctively stepped back.

“Master Lewis,” the nannies greeted with a relieved voice.

Josephine looked up and saw Lewis standing in front of her emotionlessly. She clenched her fingers on

Bambam’s swaddling blanket and stared blankly at Lewis. Lewis saw the crying baby and asked,

“What’s the matter?”

One nanny explained, “Young Master Baron had been crying fiercely recently, so we thought of letting

Madam comfort him. But….Madam was reluctant to give him back to us.”

Lewis shifted his gaze to look at Josephine’s face. “Why are you holding him?”

Josephine pressed her lips together tightly, offering no response. She herself was unsure of her own

desires and intentions at that moment. All she felt was an overwhelming need to somehow justify the

tragic loss of her innocent children when she was reminded about them. Confusion clouded her mind,

leaving her uncertain about the course of action she should take. All she knew was that she harbored a

strong reluctance to surrender Bambam back into their

care.

Lewis reached out and said, “Give Bambam to me.”

Josephine tightened her grip on the baby and stepped back, refusing his request.

request. Lewis’ turned cold, and he raised his voice, saying, “I repeat, give Bambam to me!”

gaze

Josephine stared at him, not making a move. Lewis lost his patience and stepped forward to snatch

Bambam from her hands, but Josephine held tightly onto Bambam, refusing to hand him over. As they

were fighting over Bambam, he cried even louder. It was heartbreaking to hear his hoarse voice.

“Josephine Vance!” There was anger in his voice, and everyone noticed that he was furious.

Josephine looked up at him and saw rage in his eyes. She also noticed his concern for the baby, and

that made her heart ache. She never saw this look in his eyes when she lost her child. It

became painfully clear to her that he cared deeply for Daphne’s child, but not for their own. In that

moment, Josephine was overcome by a weariness she had never felt before, an exhaustion that

permeated her very being.

Lewis

suppressed his anger and reached out again. “Give me the baby.”

Josephine fixed her gaze on his furrowed brows, feeling she had been mocked. Even the light from the

lamps around became exceptionally glaring. She relinquished Bambam to Lewis as she recognized the

danger she posed to the child. As Lewis took Bambam from her, his frown. softened a little. He then

turned around and handed Bambam to the nannies. They let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly left with

the baby.

Josephine stood there silently. The wind was gushing, and it started to drizzle. The raindrops. that fell

on her face felt cold. The man lifted his arm and tenderly brushed her cheek, wiping away her tears, as

he said with a gentle voice, “If you want a baby, we can have one. Don’t do this again.”

Josephine did not respond and continued to stand there in silence. Lewis grabbed her arm, pulling her

to leave, but Josephine broke free from his grasp. He paused for a moment and turned to look at

Josephine. Josephine took a deep breath. Cold air gushed into her lungs, and every part of her body

ached as if being stabbed with needles. She gestured, “But we used to have a child.”

A child that he allowed them to get rid of. A child that he was disgusted at because he thought that it

would also be mute like her. Now that he realized she was not born a mute, he shamelessly wanted to

have a child with her without showing a hint of remorse.

Lewis fell silent.

Josephine gestured with great difficulty as her fingers grew numb in the biting cold. “Why? Why do you

alternate between being cold and warm toward me? Why did you jump off the cliff with me? You were

just being intimate with Sierra a while ago, so how could you tell me to have a child with you now?

Lewis Alvarez, what am I to you?”

He maintained a stoic silence, his gaze fixed upon her with jet-black eyes. However, the true depths of

his emotions remained concealed in the shadow cast by his averted face, hidden. from the illuminating

light. In stark contrast, Josephine’s state of turmoil was laid bare under the light, her disarray

accentuated. It felt as though he resided in darkness while she stood in the light, existing in separate

realms. Despite being mere steps apart, an impassable divide separated them.

Josephine reached out and grabbed his hand. With tears in her eyes, she squeezed the words. from

her mouth. “Have-have you…

Josephine’s breath quickened. She got nervous, and it made it harder for her to speak. Her mouth was

not in sync with her mind. “Have you-you fallen in…”

Struggling with all her might, Josephine found herself unable to complete a single sentence.

Before she could utter the words “in love with me before” to bring her sentence to a close, he abruptly

interjected, his voice cutting through her attempts, “Stop speaking.”

His voice was cold and emotionless. This was likely his answer to her unfinished question. Josephine

loosened her grip on his hand, allowing it to fall lifelessly to her side. Her love had always been

unrequited, a one-sided affair. She berated herself for her sentimental inclinations, finding it laughable

that she had harbored the naive hope of receiving an answer

from him.

Throughout their time together, he had never once said he loved her. She realized she had been

deceiving herself, seeking signs of affection in his actions. Yet, he had

gone against Nancy for her, risking his own safety by jumping off the cliff after her. These acts became

the evidence she clung to, melting her frozen heart and igniting its beat once more. It compelled her to

take the leap into the abyss once again, driven by the belief in his love.

Upon deeper reflection, Josephine realized that his resistance against Nancy was a struggle to defy her

control and oppression over him. The leap off the cliff was a calculated risk, as he knew a river awaited

below, ensuring his survival. It was a foolish endeavor on her part to search for traces of his love within

his intricate schemes. Like a lost sheep in the desert, she fruitlessly sought water by digging in the

sand, grasping at the few drops of dew that emerged, deluding herself into believing there was hidden

treasure beneath.

Her desperate emotions gave him a hold over her. He was sharp and would never overlook her feelings

for him. Avery was right when she said men could solve 90 percent of their problems. by acting dumb.

Lewis had feigned ignorance. If he kept quiet about it, he could exit the relationship anytime and

pretend he never loved her.

At this moment, Josephine was sick and tired of this. She did not want his love anymore. He could give

it to whoever he liked. Josephine withdrew her gaze, then she turned and left.

Lewis did not pursue her. He quietly stood there and watched as she disappeared from his sight under

the night sky.

At the same time, Nancy walked over. She grabbed Lewis’ arm in delight and said, “Son, you’re back.”

Lewis tilted his head and took a glance at her.

Nancy said, “What do you intend to do with Daphne? You are not planning to leave her in jail forever,

right?”

Derek held most of the evidence, and Robert could not care less about her. The only person who could

save her now was Lewis.

“I’ll make a move first.” Lewis withdrew his arm and walked away.

Nancy stubbornly went after him and grabbed his arm again. “Lewis Alvarez! What is the meaning of

this? Do you plan to leave her in this state? She’s your sister by blood. How could you be so heartless?

Look at what you did. A harmonious family broke apart because of your

actions. Do you still see me as your mother? Do you still care about the family? Are you planning to

stop only after we’re all dead?”

Lewis paused his steps and abruptly turned to glare at Nancy. His gaze was ice cold, sending a shiver

down Nancy’s spine.
