Chapter 164 Where She First Met Him

Nancy swiftly regained her composure, standing tall as she confronted Lewis. “What? Am I wrong?

You’re treating outsiders, like Sierra and that mute, better than your family. You treat them like your

prized possession. Let me make myself clear. Don’t hold me accountable for the consequences if you

refuse to bail Daphne out of jail.”

Lewis stared at her silently. After some time, he said, “What do you plan to do?”

Nancy sneered, “Stop saying useless stuff and quickly get your sister out of jail. I can’t get your sister

out, but I can send two more in.”

It was apparent that Nancy was threatening him. Lewis smirked and said coldly, “You can try.”

“You!”

Lewis did not want to speak with her anymore and left without looking back.

Nancy almost threw a fit as she watched his son leave. Her nails almost dug into her palms as she

clenched her fists. Nancy felt disheartened because it was not difficult to see that Lewis did not care

about Daphne based on his attitude earlier. She found it hard to believe that this was the son that she

had raised.

On the other hand, Josephine managed to hail a taxi after waiting for some time. She sat in the car and

looked at her phone. There was nothing on her mind, and she felt empty inside. She could not gather

her attention and did not register anything she saw as she mindlessly swiped through her social media

account-until she saw a piece of entertainment news about Sierra. The headline read, “The Man

Backing Sierra in the Entertainment Industry Is Him!”.

Josephine’s heart missed a beat. She already tapped into the article before she even realized it. Many

pictures were shown in this article. They were all pictures of Sierra, and two of the photos were secretly

taken. One was captured at the airport, while the other depicted Lewis. embracing Sierra on a film set.

Additional pictures showcased Lewis entering Sierra’s residence, Sierra clinging to his arm, and him

leaning in to whisper something to her. Despite the blurry quality of the images, it was evident that they

appeared to be a perfect match.

Josephine swiped through the article, and a portrait of Lewis was attached toward the end. He was

wearing a suit, and his hands were in his pockets. The picture seemed to be taken at a commercial

event, as several other individuals could be seen alongside him. However, Lewis’s presence in the

photograph commanded attention, making him the focal point. Following the image, there were some

introductory details about him. It was revealed, “At the age of twenty- three, he joined Alvarez Corp and

swiftly ascended to the position of president, poised to succeed the Alvarez Corp empire…” The news

went viral as soon as it was posted.

Due to his limited public appearances, Lewis remained relatively unknown to many people, resulting in

little attention being paid to him. His face was unfamiliar to most. In a world filled with young

entrepreneurs and affluent individuals, it was not uncommon for handsome

entrepreneurs to become the subject of fascination among the younger generation. Although Sierra

was the main focus of the news, the comment section buzzed with discussions about Lewis instead.

The most popular comment, receiving numerous likes, read, “Finally, I understand the distinction

between a domineering CEO and a regular CEO.”

Another comment read, “Just for his looks, I will not only be his lover, but I would also give my entire

family to him as his watchdogs.”

There were also a few that called him their husband.

Looking at the comments, Josephine couldn’t help but grimace at the predictable tendencies of human

nature. The quest for simplicity often masked a deeper hunger for endless accumulation, with people

always yearning for more even after attaining their initial desires.

Josephine switched off her phone and wound down the window, looking at the drizzle outside. As the

wind blew into her face, coldness seeped into her bones. Suddenly, the car jerked. Josephine hit her

forehead on the window, and the pain made her see black.

The driver cursed as he pulled over and got out of the car. Josephine covered her forehead. As she

looked up, her eyes fell upon a collision between a car and a bread van. The driver approached her

window, leaning down to address her. “Miss, it doesn’t seem like the traffic will clear up anytime soon.

You might want to find another taxi,” he advised.

Josephine nodded as she rubbed the swollen bruise on her forehead. She opened the car door and got

out of the vehicle. As she took out her phone to call another cab, the van’s driver exited the van and

said, “Sorry, we’re so sorry. We did not do it on purpose. Don’t be angry, sir. We can solve this matter

privately.”

This voice was familiar, and Josephine subconsciously looked up. She saw Quintin smiling

apologetically as he apologized to the driver, and he took out his phone to transfer the driver some

money. “I’ll transfer two thousand dollars to you as compensation for your loss today. Would that be

alright?”

The driver, initially filled with anger, softened slightly upon hearing Quintin’s words. “Fine. Be careful

when you drive next time.”

Quintin felt relieved and immediately transferred the money to the driver. He glanced around cautiously,

and his expression tinged with a hint of suspicion. After completing the transaction, he turned around,

his face lighting up when he saw Josephine.

“Josephine!” he called out to her.

He walked toward her and grabbed her arm. “Come with me.”

Josephine was stunned, and before she could react, Quintin pulled her into the bread van. She had

barely sat still, but the car had already propelled forward like an arrow released from a bow. Josephine

was shocked and held onto the front seat for her dear life. Quintin said, “Don’t be afraid. I won’t sell you

off. It’s just that someone is pursuing me right now.”

Josephine felt more anxious when she heard that. She did not see anyone chasing them when she

turned around and only saw a few dog cages with dogs whimpering inside. Josephine gave Quintin a

shocked expression and thought, “Did these brats stir up some trouble again?”

Jack, who was sitting next to Quintin, said, “Josephine, we went to save these dogs from dog traders,

and they ended up chasing us through several streets.”

Josephine gave Quintin a confused look. Quintin scratched his head, and with a smile, he explained,

“We stumbled upon some dog traders at the market earlier. Without much thought, we purchased all

the dogs they had for sale. However, much to our surprise, they somehow managed to sniff out an

opportunity for profit and approached me the following day, offering an additional thirty dogs. These

were freshly captured; some even had collars around their necks. We immediately knew the dogs had

owners. Even so, they doubled their price and sold them at a ridiculously high price. My bank account

was not frozen then, so I could still buy them.”

Quintin even took the opportunity to advise the dog traders against engaging in such unethical

practices in the future, making it clear that he would no longer be their customer. Unfortunately, his

words fell on deaf ears as the traders disregarded his comments and continued their illicit activities.

They managed to capture another ten dogs and promptly contacted Quintin, demanding an exorbitant

sum of one thousand dollars per dog. But Quintin no longer had money, so he did not comply with their

terms.

Hence, the dog traders planned to sell those dogs to a slaughtering house. He found out about their

plan and was furious, so he brought men and trashed their stall. He then ran away with the dogs that

had been captured by the dog traders. That was how they fell into this situation. The dog traders were

still hot on their heels, determined to retrieve their stolen merchandise.

Josephine listened to his explanation and frowned. She gestured, “What if they catch more dogs next

time?”

Quintin chuckled confidently, expressing his plan, “Every time they capture a new batch of dogs, I’ll

make sure to trash their stall. After a few rounds of facing losses, I believe they will eventually give up

on this unprofitable business.”

Josephine gestured, “Would you be in danger?”

Quintin said, “I won’t. Don’t worry. I’m experienced in this and will not be in any danger.”

Josephine nodded as she listened to his words. She then turned around and took another glance at the

dogs. She saw their innocent eyes and a complex mix of emotions began to well up in her heart. She

felt that Quintin was doing something honorable. Josephine withdrew her gaze and realized that

Quintin was in very close proximity to her, barely a finger’s length away.

Quintin was good-looking and had a youthful exuberance. After looking into his eyes, it came to

Josephine’s mind like a flash of lightning. She remembered where she had first met him.
