Chapter 178 Are You Divorced?

Quintin dared not dally. He took his car keys and drove Josephine to work.

Choosing the less busy roads, he sped through the streets so Josephine would be in time for work

He handed her a small carton of milk and said, “I thought of taking you for breakfast. I didn’t know you

were working. I would’ve thought you were studying if you hadn’t mentioned it.”

Pursing her lips, Josephine accepted the milk and drank it.

Quintin continued, “But we’re similar in that. Everyone says I look like I’m still in university, but I’m

already 25 this year.”

Josephine was surprised to hear that. She looked at Quintin in the driver’s seat. The way he dressed

and behaved showed no signs that he was already 25 years old.

Perhaps, his carefree ways gave Josephine the wrong perception that he was still studying.

Quintin seemed to see right through her and said, “Besides what you’ve seen and my volunteering

work at the welfare association, I have a regular job too. I’m working at a company selling pet supplies.

It sells everything you need. You can come to me for dog food if you have decided to adopt one. I’ll

give you a discount.”

Josephine smiled and took out her notebook to jot that down.

She wrote down Quintin’s age, job, and the discount he promised if she wanted to buy dog

food.

Quintin accidentally glimpsed at what she wrote and chuckled, “What are you jotting that down for? Are

you afraid that I won’t keep my promise? Don’t worry. I won’t cheat you. Those are proper dog food I

was talking about.”

Josephine smiled but said nothing. She kept the notebook in her bag.

Quintin chattered all the way. Josephine’s silence didn’t irk him. He was a natural in chatting and didn’t

pause at all. He could keep the conversation going even though Josephine didn’t respond to him.

It had been a long time since he had had such a good listener, so he enjoyed chatting with Josephine.

Josephine wouldn’t interrupt or go against him.

During the car ride, Josephine discovered a great deal about him. There were interesting stories and

some unhappy ones.

Soon, they reached Alvarez Corp. Quintin checked the time. “Alright. It’s only 8.50 am. You start work

at 9 am, right?”

Josephine nodded and thanked him before getting off the car.

There had been turbulence in the company lately. The staff wasn’t in high spirits. She didn’t hear any

gossip on her way to the office.

She took the elevator to the topmost floor. It was still empty. She went to Lewis’ office and knocked on

it, but no one answered the door.

Conrad suddenly appeared behind her and said, “Madam, the chairman isn’t here yet.”

Josephine was stunned. She glanced at Conrad and started to sign. Then, she recalled that Conrad

didn’t understand sign language, so she pulled out her phone to type.

Conrad knew what she was going to ask. Before she could finish typing, he said, “I’m not sure. when

he’s coming to work, but you can look for him at Styx Mansion. Do you need me to bring you there?”

Josephine subconsciously wanted to agree, but she remembered how Lewis blocked her and his words

yesterday. It seemed inappropriate for her to return now that she had left.

Conrad continued, “Sir must still be at home. He hadn’t slept for two days and must’ve been resting. He

won’t come to work. If you insist on waiting here, I doubt you’ll meet him.”

Josephine’s eyes twinkled. He had just blocked her on social media this morning, so how could he still

be sleeping?

She typed, “It’s alright. I’ll wait here for him.”

Conrad noted her persistence and stopped advising, “Sure. I’ll continue my work, then.”

Josephine nodded and signaled for him to continue his work.

Conrad handed her several documents that required her to enter the data into the system. However,

she would be using a more advanced system today-the company’s internal system.

Conrad taught her the basics, which was keying in Lewis’ schedule. He registered an account for her

that gave her limited access to the system.

Josephine stayed in the office, entering the information Conrad handed her. Although the job was

simple, she was constantly in low spirits today.

It could be because she was sleep deprived.

She occasionally looked at the door, and as per Conrad, Lewis didn’t come all day.

Kiran came several times to look for Lewis, but he wasn’t there.

When it was time to be off work, Josephine tidied her belongings and clocked off. She felt her pockets

and found only the 100 dollars Quintin lent her yesterday. He only had this much with him then.

She dared not take a cab, so she walked a short distance to the bus stop and boarded a bus to the

hospital for infusion.

It was almost 9 pm when it was over. She was just in time for the last bus.

She took the bus back to Styx Mansion. After getting off the bus, she had to walk 20 minutes to

the mansion.

It started drizzling when she was halfway back. She held her umbrella and continued walking to the

mansion. She came to the familiar mansion and saw the lights on the lawn were on. However, the

gates were locked.

Josephine lingered at the gates, eyeing the mansion, but she lacked the courage to step in.

She was unsure of her relationship with Lewis.

A married couple? They were about to divorce.

Siblings? The notion itself was absurd.

He was supposed to inform her when to sign the papers, but he blocked her on social media. Standing

before this mansion, her identity became awkward.

Josephine was still hesitating when the gates opened.

Startled, she folded her umbrella and hid behind a pillar.

The drizzle fell on her body. It felt chilly.

She plastered herself to the pillar and sneaked a glimpse.

Two people came out of the house. One was Lewis, and the other was Sierra.

Lewis took an umbrella from the entrance and passed it to Sierra. Sierra accepted it and waited

on the lawn.

Lewis shut the door, went to the garage, and drove out a Mercedes-Benz.

Sierra folded her umbrella and got into the car. Then, Lewis drove off.

Josephine watched them, stunned. She stood alone in the rain, watching the car exit the mansion and

splash water on her as it passed.

The muddy water dirtied the clothes she had just bought yesterday, leaving stains all over her.

She also had mud on her face, but the rain dripping down her hair rinsed it away.

It took only minutes for her to become soaked. Her hair was plastered to her face, and water dripped

incessantly.

She stood at the gates, discomfited. She was at a loss-where should she go next?

Sierra accidentally glanced at the rearview mirror and saw a vague silhouette.

“Did you see her?” asked Sierra.

She was sure he did.

Lewis ignored her and focused on the road.

Sierra kept at it and asked, “It can’t be. Are you guys divorced?”

With his hands on the steering wheel, Lewis cast her a glance. His glance said it all.

Sierra pouted. She wanted to know more. “Since you’re still married, why don’t you let her in?”

“When did I ever stop her from going in?”

Sierra was miffed. “What’s with that tone? I’m just asking! It’s none of my business whether or not you

let her in, anyway!”
