Chapter 90

Ten minutes were gone when Natalie finally sat down in the makeup chair. She was cast as the freshly-minted

adult daughter of a prominent family, requiring a rather minimalist makeup look that the makeup artist could

apply with swift expertise.

“Unbelievable! The whole crew is waiting on a third lead,” Sofia’s voice echoed outside the door. The makeup

artist was noticeably agitated, sweating profusely over the potential for more

delays.

Catching the anxious glance of the makeup artist. Natalie suggested, “Let's take a brief pause.”

After all, it was unlikely that the makeup would turn out well in such a frenzy.

Minutes later, Natalie emerged in a large-sleeved black satin dress like a vintage evening gown and hurried onto

the set.

“Sorry for the wait, everyone,” she said, her voice tinged with genuine regret as she apologized

to the crew.

When Natalie stepped in, most on set seemed ready to forgive her, regardless of the reason for her delay.

Dressed in contemporary clothing. Natalie did not cacross as elegant. Yet, she looked unexpectedly

stunning in the slightly oversized black satin dress, which should have been. ill-fitting. The dress flowed with an

elegance that suggested a well-bred and educated young lady, her beauty and poise leaving others in the dust,

especially since Natalie appeared to be wearing hardly any makeup.

Did an actress dare to shoot with such a natural look? That was a first for many on the set!

Sitting in her chair, Sofia gave Natalie a thorough once-over and couldn’t help but frown.

Sofia’s role was that of a young, influential general's wife, and in previous scenes, she had held her own against

the leading lady, praised for her dazzling beauty.

Yet, standing beside Natalie, the difference was stark. One was the essence of a refined lady. and the other, more

like a plain maid by comparison.

Rising to her feet, Sofia, in her high heels, was still slightly shorter than Natalie. It

“Let's get started then,” Miller interjected, attempting to smooth things over while internally breaking into a cold

sweat. Caught between a notorious diva and a breathtaking beauty with powerful connections, he felt any side

he picked would be wrong.

“Sure.” Natalie agreed readily, her humble demeanor making Sofia’s earlier irritability seem even more petty

and bitter.

Feeling slighted, Sofia went silent for a few seconds and then begrudgingly replied with a scowl,

Let's just start

The scene was Sofia’s character, the general's wife, entering the family hfor the first time, encountering a

lack of respect from the family, particularly from Natalie's character, who disliked her humble-bom sister-in-law,

prompting the general's wife to put her in her place.

The two actresses took their positions in the living room set and began their dialogue.

After one run-through. Natalie was already deep in character, slipping into the role effortlessly. In contrast. Sofia

stumbled over her lines, struggling to deliver them smoothly.

Ms. Sofa, maybe you should take a moment to review your lines?” suggested a crew member. unable to hide

their concem. It was a pitiful sight that a newcomer had upstaged a seasoned lead actress.

Sofia was caught off guard by this turn of events. She had intended to embarrass Natalie and leave her unable to

recover.

She assumed Natalie, having been pressured to come, would be in poor form and unfamiliar with the script.

Instead, the tables had turned, and Sofia appeared unprofessional, wasting everyone's time.

Their eyes met. Natalie said nothing, but Sofia felt a deep humiliation. In a defiant move, she tossed her script to

her agent, arched an eyebrow, and declared, “I'm ready.”

A flubbed line could be dubbed over later. It was of no consequence. Sofia’s primary motive had been to give

Natalie a lesson. Everything else was secondary.

“Are you ready, Natalie?” Miller asked.

“Yeah,” replied Natalie, her tone even.

The two actors quickly fell into their roles once again.
