Maia tried hard to suppress her laughter. “Rita, Cedric means that he doesn’t want to tire you. It’s been a long day for everyone,

Rita’s expression eased at Maia’s considerate words. “Alright, I feel assured having you look after Cedric, I’ll take my leave,
then.”
Maia smiled and nodded, “Do be careful on your way home.”
“Cedric, you should let Maia know if you need anything. She’s more than capable of taking care of you. You don’t really need me
by your side anymore.”
Cedric could not help but sneered at the irony. When he had sustained severe burns protecting Maia in his teens, she only came
to visit him a handful of times.

side? He continued to ignore her as his face remained impassive.
As Rita prepared to leave, she turned to Maia and asked, “Why don’t you come see me off?”

“I–I understand. I’ll listen to every word you say. I know Cedric is just being kind to keep me by his side.” Maia lowered her head
and replied in a shaky voice.
“Very well. You have to report everything he does and his whereabouts to me. Including who he has seen or what he’s been up

“There was a problem with one of the elevators. It stopped and started descending on its own! Someone is still in there!”
“Are you feeling better now?” Cedric asked.
Maia looked at him in realization as she asked, “Did you do this?”
“That was just a simple warning. After all, she laid her hands on your countless times,” he reasoned.
“Isn’t she your mother?”
“Did she think of me when she kept on hurting you?”
Maia smiled at the irony. “You never protected me in the past, so why now? I don’t need your help anymore.”
“Really? Not even from the boy who saved the girl from the fire?”
His words momentarily stunned her as she looked straight at Cedric, who was still in bed. Maial could not believe her ears.
Before she could react, Cedric had moved toward her.
When Maia felt him next to her, she looked at him in shock. She had a hunch but was not brave enough to question him. Instead,
she mumbled, “Y–You.”
“Yes, I’ve managed to remember everything.” Cedric confirmed her speculations.
Maia went stiff as she heard him admitting it. She continued to look at him and shook her head. Too stunned to even speak.
She could feel tears building up as she thought to herself that he finally remembered. For
