Chapter 53 You Will Leave

Seeing Mala join them at the table, Aiken chuckled in embarrassment and handed her a fork and a

knife. “Here you go.”

As they ate, Jordan said, “I need to rush back to the hospital as they might need help. Aiken, stay here

and keep Maia safe.”

Aiken nearly choked. “Hey, am I your son or your servant?”

“Don’t argue with me, okay? Jesus. How could anyone want to be your fan?” Jordan said.

“Okay, okay, I’ll take care of her,” Aiken conceded.

Jordan’s phone suddenly rang. He picked up and said, “Hey, Dr. Ingram.”

The urgent voice of the head of the hospital said, “Jordan, Mr. Cedric’s wound has torn open, but he

refused to let us help him!”

Jordan instinctively glanced at Maia.

“Can you hear me? Jordan?” Dr. Ingram asked anxiously.

Since everyone had found out that Cedric was in his hospital, he couldn’t afford to have anything

terrible happen to him.

“Calm down, Dr. Ingram. I’m listening,” Jordan answered.

“Is there a way you can reach Ms. Maia? We need her help!”

Suddenly, Dr. Ingram’s voice was heard again.

“Cedric, what are you doing out here?” The man sounded alarmed.

“Give me the phone.” Cedric’s deep voice was authoritative.

Dr. Ingram quickly handed over his phone.

Cedric said over the phone, “Maia, I only listen to you.”

What he said led people to believe that something was going on between the two.

“Cedric, you’re out of your fucking mind!” Maia angrily gripped her spoon and knife.

Aiken took Jordan’s phone and said, “Hey, everyone knows you and Maia are divorced. Stop harassing

her, okay?”

Cedric scoffed dismissively. “Fuck off!”

Dr. Ingram suddenly shouted, “Cedric, your wound is bleeding! Let us dress it, please?”

Exasperated, Maia put down her knife and fork and left the apartment. Did he not care about his life?

Aiken got up. “Dad, I’ll go make sure she’s safe.”

He picked up a baseball cap in the foyer and hurried out, shouting, “Maia, I’m coming with you!”

She stopped in her path and said, “Go back.”

“What if he bullies you? Guys like him are hard to handle.”

“I appreciate it, but I’m going to be fine.” She didn’t want Aiken to risk his bright future for

her.

Maia walked briskly toward the hospital. Aiken stared after her, his heart pounding hard.

“What a stubborn woman!” Still worried, he decided to follow her in secret.

When Maia reached the hospital’s fifth floor, she saw Cedric sitting in the wheelchair. He looked pale

and sweaty, and the side of his hospital gown was stained with blood.

“Have you gone fucking mad, Cedric?”

Maia could never imagine that the usually calm and rational Cedric would behave so recklessly, to the

point of disregarding his own life.

Cedric smiled weakly. He was mad, all right. From the moment he thought she died in the fire, he had

existed as a mere shell of a man.

Yet, when she miraculously reappeared unharmed, she no longer loved him like she used to. She even

hated him. He was driven to madness as she pushed him away time and again.

Still, he would never give up trying, as long as she was willing to speak to him. Despite the pain in his

back, Cedric rolled his wheelchair over to Maia.

“You’re here.” He smirked.

Seeing his haggard look, Maia was speechless. She had never seen him like this before.

Before she could respond, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her into his lap.

Maia yelped and stared at him. “Cedric, what the hell are you doing? Your back is injured!”

“I know.”

He simply didn’t want to let her go.

Mala widened her eyes. “Then shouldn’t you let me go?”

Maia was stupefied. Was he the Cedric that she knew? She longed for him to talk like this in the past,

but he never did.

What an irony!

Maia smciled the faint smell of blood, which was made intense by the scent of disinfectant in

the air.

Noticing the blood stain on his back, she was reminded of the fact that he was injured because

of her.

Maia bit her lower lip and said, “Okay, I won’t go away. Just let me go and let the doctor treat your

wound. It’s bleeding.”
