Chapter 67 My Heart Aches for You

“I’m sorry, Maia I can only apologize for everything that has happened. Please, let Yvette go. I promise

that we’ll never do anything to hurt you or Errol again!” Homer pleaded pathetically

A sad smile crept onto Mala’s beautiful face. This man was her father, but all he ever did was hurt

them. Now, he was even begging for forgiveness on behalf of the woman who had hurt.

her and her brother.

“It pains me to know that mother had chosen to spend most of her life with you. You’re just at piece of

shit that would use her memory in exchange for another woman’s freedom!”

Maia found this situation so ridiculous that it made her laugh.

Maia’s outburst caused Homer to lift his head. His eyes were red and moist with tears. However, Maia

did not know who they were for, and it did not matter anymore.

She took a deep breath and studied the wooden chest before walking towards it. She questioned

solemnly, “Did you have anything to do with my mother’s death?”

“W–what do you mean? She died by suicide!” Homer asked in disbelief.

“Answer the question!”

He shook his head vigorously and said, “No! I swear!”

Maia blinked to hold back her own tears as she gently picked up the wooden chest. “It’s a deal.‘

Without even waiting for Homer’s response, she turned and left the room. Her footsteps were heavy as

she was exhausted from all the drama. Since her father did not care for her mother’s belongings, she

would make sure to protect them.

Homer quickly followed her out of the room and shouted, “Maia, thank you for being kind to Hope.

Since you’re now the CEO of Starlight Entertainment, could you please take care of her? She has

nothing to do with what we’ve done to you.”

“What’s hers will remain hers.” Even though Hope was willing to return everything to her and Errol,

Maia would not accept them.

Homer was grateful for this and he thanked her profusely.

Homer may not have been a good father to Maia and Errol, but he was definitely a good father

to Hope.

curious to know why I don’t hate your daughter?”

“It’s because you are a kind and understanding child,” Homer deduced.

That was partially true, but it was not why she had behaved the way she did.

“It was all because of my mother.”

Homer stood rooted to the spot as Maia’s words sank in. He never would have thought that it was all

because of Rosa.

It was stormy outside as Maia dragged her exhausted body down the steps.

“How did it go?” Hope asked as she rushed up to her.

Maia did not respond to Hope. Instead she walked out the door, into the rain.

‘Maia, wait! Let me get you an umbrella!”

But by the time Hope returned with an umbrella, Maia had already got into her car and drove

off.

It was still pouring back in the city. There were hardly any people on the streets. The rain was so heavy

that she could barely see what was right in front of her.

Maia felt her vision blurring as Homer’s voice kept ringing in her ears.

‘I know you are a kind girl. I’m sorry that we have wronged you, but can’t you let bygones be bygones?

I only want Hope to have a family. You agree that she’s innocent, right?‘

‘I’m sorry. I’m sorry for all that we’ve done to you.‘

Maia could not hold back her tears any longer as she sobbed uncontrollably.

Just then, a light flickered on the dashboard and her car came to an abrupt halt. Maia was shocked.

Did her car’s engine just die?

She sniffled and dried her tears before getting out of her car and into the rain.

After a few checks, she was pretty sure her car had broken down.

She immediately calmed herself and took out her cell phone, intending to call for help.

At that moment, a Maybach pulled to a halt next to her. A guy came out of the car and pulled the

helpless Maia into his embrace.

“What are you doing out in the rain?” Cedric asked with concern.

Maia instantly knew who he was. She was already feeling helpless, and her emotions were a mess.

She could no longer control her frustration as she yelled at him, “Can’t you see that something is wrong

with my car? Do you think I like being soaked to the skin?”

She even kicked at her car’s wheel rims in a rage as she struggled to leave his embrace. “Let me go! I

thought we agreed to leave each other alone. Have you forgotten that?”

Cedric quietly took in her disheveled appearance and replied calmly, “Yeah, I’ve entirely forgotten about

it.”

Then, he pressed her back into his chest and carried her.

“Cedric, let me go!” Mala struggled. She still looked pretty even when she was drenched.

“What, so you could continue standing in the rain?”

“What does that have to do with you?”

“My heart would ache just from seeing that,” he said as he placed her on the passenger seat. Baz and

the driver remained silent as this scene unfolded before their eyes.

When Cedric instructed Baz to take care of Maia’s car, he quickly obliged and hurried off with an

umbrella.

After Cedric made sure Maia would not catch a cold by putting his discarded suit jacket on her, he

demanded that the driver start driving.

Inside the car, Maia still could not stop herself from sobbing. She could no longer tell if her face was

covered in raindrops or her own tears.
