Chester was too young to understand what was really happening. All he knew was that Lorrie treated him nicely, buying him tasty treats and even promising to take him to the amusement park if Jasmine agreed. He had never been to the amusement park because he was always hiding with his mother, so the thought of missing out on the amusement park made him even sadder, and he couldn't hold back his tears.
"I don't know what she did to make you hate her so much, but she's never been mean to me." Chester's words, soft but clear in the silence, made Jasmine so angry that she grabbed a feather duster, intending to discipline him.
Right before she could do anything, Pearl intervened and took the duster away. "No matter what, he's just a kid."
