Chapter 146

Jason and Thaddeus went nose to nose, tension thick in the air.

“Well, isn’t this a coincidence, Mr. Thaddeus, or are we just unlucky?” Jason’s words were laced with

malice.

“Is Evadne here?” Thaddeus frowned, asking seriously.

At the mention of the name, Acacia’s heart pounded with unease.

“What? Is she not allowed to be here?”

Jason scoffed, his words dripping with sarcasm. “Mr. Thaddeus, you don’t own this place.”

“Huh, Mr. Thaddeus is just asking. Why so touchy, Jason!” Gordon snapped back.

“Just asking, huh? Do you even have the right to ask?” Jason’s face twisted with disdain.

“What did you say!”

“Enough, Gordon,” Thaddeus silenced him, then asked, “What’s Evadne doing here?”

Jason gave Acacia a cold look before answering mockingly, “Mr. Thaddeus, Ms. Evadne’s reason for

being here is the same as yours.”

Thaddeus’s face darkened further.

He realized that Evadne had developed an interest in the rose field, but this time, he would not let her

succeed!

On the other side.

Evadne had already hiked up her skirt. She stepped into the rose bushes, looking every bit the lively

sprite.

She sat without care on the damp earth, her delicate hands playing with the soil. She studied the rose

stems and petals, snapping pictures and making detailed notes on her phone.

Other girls came for the view and for the pictures.

But not Evadne. She was clearly here for business opportunities.

Who would’ve thought that such a beautiful woman would be so practical? She was only thinking about

how to make a buck.

Ambitious women really had a way of drawing people in.

Avery stood by, patiently waiting for her.

He cracked a small smile, his affection for her impossible to hide. “You’re still the same girl as you were

when we were kids. That’s nice.”

His secretary called, breaking his thoughts.

Avery frowned, picking up the phone, “What’s up?”

“Mr. Chambers, Thaddeus is here.”

The secretary whispered, “Earlier, the Abernathy Group had contacted me about a potential

collaboration on the Rose Manor project. I didn’t give them a definitive answer as per your instruction. I

can’t believe they already brought a survey team. They seem determined to collaborate with us.”

Avery gazed at the busy Evadne, whispering to his secretary, “Who else came aside from the

Abernathy Group?”

‘Thaddeus’s rumored fiancée. He even brought her to something like this. They must be really close.”

His secretary’s words were tinged with sarcasm.

And Evadne had no idea about all this.

Was this the man Evadne used to love?

Was this the man she was willing to give up everything for, to stay by his side for three whole years?

Evadne really was a fool.

Avery’s heart was filled with anger. He asked coldly, “Have you prepared what I asked for?”

“All set, Mr. Chambers!” his secretary hurriedly replied.

“Bring it over, and send someone to guide the Abernathy Group over.” Avery adjusted his gla**es, a

faint sneer flashing in his eyes.

Evadne had been squatting for too long and her back was aching. She slowly stood up from amidst the

roses, panting slightly as she wiped her sweat.

That was how she was, completely engrossed in what she loved, forgetting about time and everything

around her.

It was then that she remembered Avery was still waiting.

She quickly turned around, only to see him still standing there patiently, with a basket of elegantly

beautiful pink flowers in his hand. They were truly beautiful.

“Ms. Evadne,” Avery called her over, walking towards her with the basket.

“Hey, don’t come in! You’ll get your clothes dirty!” Evadne saw how clean he was and tried to stop him.

But he didn’t care. He walked straight through the thorny bushes, making a beeline for her.

Evadne pursed her lips, feeling slightly embarra**ed.

“Ms. Evadne, this is for you.” Avery’s deep eyes were full of warmth as he handed the basket to her.

“Mr. Avery, thank you, but I can’t accept these flowers.” Evadne smiled as she gently refused.

While it was just a basket, they were roses after all. With ambiguous meanings, it wouldn’t be

appropriate to accept them.

Predicting her refusal, Avery quickly came up with another reason, “Flowers suit a beauty like you. But

more importantly, I noticed your interest in my roses, so I thought I’d give

you a basket to study. The soil from here is at the bottom. You can take it home, transplant it and with

some care. They’ll bloom all year round.”

Evadne had no reason to refuse. She hesitated for a moment before taking the basket, “Thank you for

your generous gift,”

Suddenly, Avery frowned and leaned closer.

His handsome face filled Evadne’s surprised eyes.

“Mr. Avery, what is it? Is there something on my face?”

Avery nodded seriously.

“Where?” Evadne was confused, she raised her hand to wipe her face, only to smear more mud on her

cheek.

Now her face was covered in mud.

Avery’s eyes were full of indulgence. He took out a pure white handkerchief from his pocket, naturally

wiping the mud stains off her cheek and forehead.

He was so quick. Evadne only realized what was happening when he was done. “I could’ve done it

myself.”

“It’s fine, it’s already clean.” Avery looked deeply at her, swiftly retracting his hand.

He was always like this, backing off whenever she thought their interactions were getting too intimate.

For some reason, Evadne suddenly felt he was being too nice to her.

But then, she brushed that thought aside. Maybe Avery was being so considerate because he was

naturally gentle, or maybe it was because they’d known each other since they were kids.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached them.

Evadne jerked her head up, only to be taken aback.

Just a few steps away, Thaddeus stood before them, neither excited nor angry, only his beautiful eyes

calmly watching them.

The ocean was just as calm before a tsunami hit.

Thaddeus had been watching all of Evadne’s interactions with this man. His fists clenched tightly under

his cuffs, and his forehead vein was throbbing!

He saw her accept the rose Avery gave her, saw her smiling happily at him, and saw him gently wiping

a smudge off her cheek.

Their rapport and intimacy were like that of a harmonious couple.

Thaddeus’s back was tense, his lips tightly shut, thoughts whi zzing through his mind.

So, it turned out Evadne was here not to sn atch the project, but to enjoy the beautiful scenery with her

new boyfriend.

He would rather she came to fight or torment him. He would rather give her everything.

But what he didn’t want to see was her giving everything that once belonged to him, without

reservation, to another man.
