Chapter 642

Warner froze in his tracks, that all–too–familiar look of impatience creeping back onto his face.

Evadne let go of Thaddeus‘ hand and marched up to Warner with the speed of a tempest.

The next second, her slender arm swung through the air, her fiery blue eyes blazing with fury as she

slapped the privileged man across the face–not once, but twice!

The sound resonated, leaving the onlookers, including Thaddeus, in shock.

Warner himself was stunned beyond belief, and it wasn’t until the sting on his cheek flared up and

blood trickled from the corner of his mouth that he fully grasped what had happened.

He had been slapped!

“Evadne!” Warner covered his face with his hands, his voice shaking with rage as he struggled to hold

back his fury.

Thaddeus strode over with long, determined steps, wrapping his protective arms around Evadne, his

gaze upon Warner dark and foreboding.

Warner felt a chill down his spine, the pain on his face momentarily forgotten under the hellish stare.

The first slap, Warner, was for Chasel. I don’t care what he is to you, but to me, he’s my brother, my

friend! You hit him, you hit me. And if you think you can strut around the Ashbourne estate and walk out

like nothing happened, those two slaps are just a taste of our hospitality!” Evadne’s voice rang out clear

and powerful, her presence commanding.

“Wow! Go, Evadne! I’m so here for this!” Aviana almost cheered out loud.

If she didn’t stand up to this jerk now, she’d be serving up a plate of Lionel’s “Golden Grains” to this

mongrel.

“Evadne.” Chasel’s eyes brimmed with tears.

It was ironic, really.

The warmth of family he never felt among the Brights, he found within the walls of the Ashbourne

residence, filling his cold heart with a solace he had never known before.

“The second slap is for Suri!” Evadne’s anger flared as she thought of the humiliation Suri had to

endure. “I don’t care about the Bright family’s ridiculous rules. This is my home, and Suri is my family.

You dare to humiliate her like this? Do you think we’re all dead? I should have hit you harder. If you

keep up your act, next time I see you, I’ll slap you again!”

Her defiance was palpable.

Thaddeus watched her, his heart swelling with pride yet concerned that her hand might be in pain.

Warner, an intellectual and industry elite, had never suffered such an indignity.

Unable to stoop to the level of street brawling, he simply trembled with rage, pointing at Evadne’s

stunning face, his voice shaking, “You’ve benefited from the Bright family’s generosity, and you dare

raise your hand against me? You’re ungrateful! The Ashbourne family, all of you, bullies, not a single

good one among you!”

“Ungrateful?” Thaddeus‘ cold eyes darkened, his lips barely moving. “As you say, it was Suri who

sought the medicine for Evadne. The debt of gratitude is owed to Suri, and by extension, York. What

does it have to do with you?”

Warner, his face as dark as the bottom of a pan, stormed off like a ruffled rooster.

Evadne, calm as the winter moon, her voice icy, “You say I owe the Bright family? Fine, then take my

womb. It’s useless to me. I don’t want children. You want it, take it!”

“Lunatic!”

Knowing he had no advantage, either in strength or in wit, Warner’s face turned beet red as he made a

hasty retreat. Chasel took one last deep look at Evadne, no longer looking back, and walked out of the

gate of Silverlake Harbor. Meanwhile, upstairs, unnoticed

Cassius’s body stood upright by the railing, and his hands, which were holding the blue veins on the

railing, tightened.

When he looked at Chasel’s back, pain tugged at his heart and spread quietly.

As soon as he went out, Warner couldn’t help it anymore. He spat hard on the ground and spat out a

mouthful of blood foam!

It could be seen that Evadne was really ruthless when she slapped him.

Chasel saw it in his eyes, and the corners of his lips couldn’t stop rising. Then Warner saw his smile.

Warner stared at him with hatred, and his teeth were about to break. “When I get home and see

Grandpa and Dad, you’ll be screwed!”

As Chasel left the Silverlake Harbor, the atmosphere seemed to lose some of its laughter.

“Where the hell is Emeric when his own wife is being harassed?”

Evadne’s frustration caused her stomach to cramp with pain. “He gets himself enemies, and he expects

who to deal with them if not himself?”

Aviana tried to soothe her, “Evadne, don’t be hard on your dad, he went to work.”

The room fell silent.

Going to work, or even reporting for duty, sounded better than going to work like a common laborer.

It was as though Emeric, despite being a top–tier magnate, was reduced to a simple field worker

through Aviana’s words.

Evadne’s eyes widened, “What? He’s hardly recovered, how can he start work so soon? Chasel said

he needed rest! Is he in a hurry to reincarnate or something?”

Despite her harsh words, her deep concern shone through.

The mention of Chasel cast a shadow over everyone’s mood.

Aviana sighed, wrapping an arm around Suri’s waist, “Suri, why are the men of the Bright family so

stubborn? Can’t they be a bit more enlightened instead of sticking to their old ways?”

“I’m not one of the Bright family anymore. Haven’t been for a long time,” Suri said with a bitter laugh.

“When I have a chance, I should go change my last name.”

“Suri.” Evadne looked at her seriously. “What exactly happened? Why would Warner know that Chasel

was here with us?” Suri bit her lip, her voice rough, “I told him.”

Everyone was stunned. “Why?”

“I have my reasons. Don’t you worry, even if Chasel goes back with the wind, it won’t sever our ties.”

Suri’s eyes twinkled, “Chasel isn’t a kid anymore, and the Brights can try to control him, but how long

can they really keep it up? When he comes back home, if you need him, you can always hop on a

plane and see him.”

Evadne studied Suri’s expression intently, sensing something was off. She felt like Suri was holding

back.

Kicking someone out, she could have done that a long time ago.

Why wait until now? And why such a drastic measure?

As she pondered, the heavy sound of footsteps approached.

Cassius moved like a brisk wind, striding urgently towards the exit.

*Cassius, where are you off to?” Evadne couldn’t help calling out to him.

Cassius paused briefly, his voice deep and hoarse, “Something’s come up, I need to step out.”

With that, he walked out of the living room.

Evadne blinked in a moment of confusion, wondering if she had seen it incorrectly.

Cassius’s eyes were fiercely red.
