Chapter 665
Arnold and Bennett excused themselves and closed the door behind them, providing space for the
conversation between Evadne and Chasel.
“Chasel.” Evadne whispered his name.
In that moment, words failed her. Whether it was offering comfort or discussing her elder brother,
nothing seemed appropriate.
A few seconds of silence passed between them, feeling like an eternity.
“Evadne. I’m so sorry.” Chasel couldn’t lift his gaze, droplets of sweat streaming down his chiseled
cheeks.
Evadne shook her head, her voice a soft caress, “Chasel, you are not to blame for any of this. There’s
no need for apologies. Liking someone isn’t a crime, not in the least.”
“It is my fault, all of it.”
Chasel’s head remained bowed, like a sinner scorned by thousands, his usual confidence washed
away. “Suri was right; I ruined Cassius. If only I had listened to her, none of this would have happened.
Evadne, I’m unforgivable. I’ve been selfish. But I wish I could be the only one to pay the price. I’d take
any suffering, any punishment. I don’t want Cassius to suffer. I wish we could go back to the start. But it
seems too late now.”

Putting aside whether her brother was truly ruined or not, Chasel was crumbling to ruins.

Evadne’s fingers tightened on his sleeve, crumpling the white lab coat. “If you leave now, what does
that say about the love between you two? What is the point of my brother’s sacrifices? You faced the
world of hurt, risked being ostracized to be with my brother. Is this how it ends? Are you really okay
with that?”
“I’m not okay with it!”
Chasel finally broke down, tears streaming uncontrollably. “But what good is my dissatisfaction,
Evadne? Will the world accept us, will your father, your family? I could give up everything, but Cassius
can’t! He deserves to be the happiest man in the world. Otherwise, I would have rather we never met!”
“The only condition for my brother’s happiness now is one thing,” Evadne said, her eyes shining like
stars. “That is, for you to stay by his side, through thick and thin.”
The words “through thick and thin” made Chasel’s soul quake within his body.
He bowed and fell down to his knees slowly, his hands pressing against the cold floor, the veins on his
arms bulging, “I once told Cassius I don’t care about being in the shadows or being his lover unseen by

matters.”

Chasel bit his lip hard, trying to hold back, but the tears kept flowing.
“Evadne?”
Thaddeus‘ low voice came from outside the door.
Evadne comforted Chasel for a moment before getting up to open the door.
“What’s up, Thaddeus?” The couple instinctively drew close, their hands entwined.
Thaddeus peeked into the room before wrapping his arm around her waist, lowering his voice, “The
Brights have arrived. Their car just pulled into the hospital’s underground parking lot.”
